After seeing even the score of the game against the Broncos, it is easy to just give up all hope for the season. With a 1-3 record, it appears as if this is just another lost season.
But if you ask me, it is far from over. Call me overly optimistic, but I can see the Eagles actually having a good season. Let's look at Philadelphia's schedule.
Finished Games: Through 4 weeks, the Eagles have a dismal 3-1 record. However, let's look at who we faced. The Redskins just got their first win today against the Oakland Raiders (and that's not saying much). We lost to the Chargers, who also beat the Cowboys and have shown some promise this year. The Chiefs are one of the surprises of the NFL with a 4-0 record. Lastly, even though the game was absolutely abysmal, the Denver Broncos can very well win the AFC this year if not the Super Bowl. The point is that the Eagles should not be too ashamed of their record right now. They have lost to some decent teams so far.
Until the Bye Week: The next 7 weeks may very well be the difference between a top 10 pick in next year's draft and a division title. This stretch could spell redemption, as the combined record of the teams we face is 5-22. Out of the 7 games, we face the Giants (0-4) twice, the Buccaneers (0-4), the Cowboys (2-2), Raiders (1-3), Packers (1-2), and the Redskins (1-3). I can very well see the Eagles taking over half of the games here despite the play over the past 3 weeks. In fact, there is a chance we could take 5 or 6 out of the 7 games. The Giants look even worse than us, the Buccaneers have already benched their QB, and Dallas has not looked sharp all season. Not to mention that the Redskins have looked horrible and have only beaten the Raiders, who themselves have only beaten the Jaguars. Many of these games give a fan like me hope for a decent record.
After the Bye Week: While the end of the season gives us more challenges, some of the games are winnable. Arizona (2-2), while improved over last year, is a team that we have a chance of winning against. Minnesota has not looked good all season, and we face Dallas again Week 17.
Eagles fans: just because it looks bad doesn't mean it can't get better. Even after we got beaten down by Peyton Manning, the Eagles could still go 8-8. There is hope, especially looking at some of the teams we still get to face. The NFC East looks just as crappy as we look. I'm not saying that we are a lock to win the division. Far from it, actually, as the defense still looks horrible and it seems like Henery can't kick a field goal to save his life. I'm just saying that the rest of the teams we have to face look just as bad if not worse than us, and we can easily pull a decent record out of nowhere.
