As we know by now, the Broncos are one of the best teams, if not the best, in the league. A lot of their success is due to having Future Hall of Famer Peyton Manning at quarterback.
"Probably [Peyton Manning] and [Tom] Brady are the two best [against the blitz] I've ever seen. We were fortunate we got a chance to practice against Tom here, see him a little bit in the preseason. Now we get a chance to see Peyton up close and personal. You're talking about two of the all‑time greats. It will be a great challenge for us"
Kelly had something funny to say when asked about the importance of getting a pass rush on Manning.
"Not that important (smiling). I mean, we actually didn't even think of that."
You can't deny the man is quick with a joke. Chip's light-hearted sarcasm sure makes press conferences fun. Sarcasm aside, Chip stressed stopping Manning isn't so simple as just having a good pass rush.
"[T]he one thing with Peyton that you realize is that you can't just do one thing against him. He's such a great mind at the quarterback position. You may say this blitz beat him, but if you beat him the first time on the blitz, he's going to come back and beat you on the blitz.
You have to try to give him different looks. But you have to make sure your disguise isn't a liability, that you're so far away from your work that you can't get to your work.
Yeah, we fooled him because he didn't see the blitz coming, but we're not close enough to the receiver to now be in coverage. There's that cat‑and‑mouse game going on. You're talking about playing against one of the all‑time greats."
Philadelphia's defense has struggled this year, evidenced by the amount of points (6th most) they've conceded to opposing teams. Meanwhile, Denver's offense has scored the most points and Manning has been on a tear. (That is, when he hasn't been shedding tears.) The Eagles will certainly have their hands full on Sunday.
