Andy Reid's Pro-Oregon Bias

Jason Bridge-USA TODAY Sports

It's time to state the obvious -- Andy Reid gave special treatment to players from Oregon.

It's pretty obvious that a coach is picking favorites when he has three slots on his final 53 roster for players from a tiny West Coast state with no appreciable football tradition. It's time to state the obvious -- Andy Reid gave special treatment to players from Oregon.

This was very obvious in his last year, as he kept marginal talents such as Brandon Hughes (Oregon State), Ryan Rau (Portland State) and the notorious Casey Matthews (boooo!) on his squad. Hell, he even drafted Matthews! In 2011, it was Hughes, Matthews, and Kyle DeVan. Starting to see the pattern? It doesn't even matter who the players are, he just wants some Beaver State beef on his team.

Go back through the years, and it's the same story. Over his 14 years, the players from this obscure West Coast state keep piling up. Jed Weaver! Jeff Thomason! A.J. Feely! (All Ducks.) Wait, who is this obscure lineman who hasn't started a game since 2010 (with Carolina) but just made Reid's Kansas City Chiefs roster? Why, it's Geoff Schwartz, from -- wait for it -- Oregon. This is my surprised face :-0 .

Look, every coach has the perfect right to pick whatever players he wants. Let's just be honest and admit that, if you're a marginal player, being from Oregon is the best way to make one of Andy Reid's rosters.
