NFL roster cuts 2013 - SB Nation
Every team's "final" 53 man roster in one place.
Eagles cut Danny Watkins and Clay Harbor among others to get the roster down to 53 - Brandon Lee Gowton, BGN
Here's how the Eagles got down to 53.
Ranking NFL teams by age: Rams the youngest, Lions the oldest, Eagles 10th - JimmyK, Philly.com
As of roughly 9pm on cut down day, when I finished collecting data from all 32 NFL team website rosters, the Rams had the youngest team in the NFL, as they did last year. The Lions are the oldest. By the time you read this, this data will already out of date as teams continue to make minor tweaks to their rosters. However, even with the continued roster movement, the average ages of each team shouldn’t change much.
Roster Thoughts - Tommy Lawlor, Iggles Blitz
Why was Chris McCoy cut? Like you, I felt he was a sure thing. My guess is that the Eagles were worried about his physicality. The first job for an OLB in the 3-4 is to be able to play the run. He must be able to set the edge, whether taking on an OT or TE. There was a play vs the Jags where a WR moved McCoy off the ball. That was a red flag moment for me. A 6-4, 261 OLB cannot be blocked by a WR, especially not moved off the LOS.
Scout on the Eagles - Tommy Lawlor, EaglesBlog.net
Tommy compiled some Paul Domowitch tweets from an NFL scout.
Scout on NT Isaac Sopoaga: "I didn't see him make a play the entire preseason. Maybe he's saving it for the season.''
Scout on Eagles' OL: "I think they can be really good, but they've got no depth. If they lose 1 of those starters, they're in trouble.''
Scout on Eag Ss: "Colt Anderson probably is their best all-around player, but he just doesn't have range you can trust v. elite player.''
Scout I talked to doesn't think Bennie Logan is big/strong enough to hold point at nose.T hinks he belongs at DE.
Scout on Eagles' outside 'backers: "Outside of Barwin, they don't have one guy that can play that position.''
Trio Of Undrafted Rookies Earn Their Way - Bo Wulf, PhiladelphiaEagles.com
On the day when dreams are both fulfilled and temporarily put on hold, there's no better representation of the unpredictable nature of the NFL landscape than the three undrafted rookies who earned their way onto the Eagles' 53-man roster. Offensive lineman Matt Tobin, defensive tackle Damion Square and linebacker Jake Knott all sat idly by during seven rounds of the NFL Draft in April, never to see their name flash across the screen.
Roseman Reflects On What Went Wrong With Watkins - Sheil Kapadia, Birds 24/7
Asked what he remembers about his personal evaluation of Watkins, Roseman said: "When you watched Danny play, the toughness, the hockey-playing aspect of him never translated to Philadelphia. And that’s one of the things I told him today, was that when you watched him at Baylor and when you watched him at the Senior Bowl and when you met him, he had this innate toughness about him. You felt like you were getting an enforcer. And he never let himself go here on that. And I don’t know why that was. I told him that was part of the thing that I was the most confused by because that was something that everyone at Baylor told you about and you saw in his play on the field. And I think it all goes back to the pressure he put on himself here.
Eagles surprisingly keep Matthews over McCoy - John Gonzalez, CSN Philly
"When you talk about a Casey Matthews, possibly, if you got in a bind in a game, he could play outside [linebacker]," general manager Howie Roseman said at the NovaCare Complex on Saturday. "When Chip [Kelly] talked about the versatility at the back of the roster, we didn’t want to duplicate a lot of skills. So that’s what made some of the choices at the back of the roster -- maybe some guys who played well during the preseason, but maybe they were duplicating the skills of some of the guys we had -- it didn’t make sense to keep them or try to find guys that did some different things."
