Observations And Breaking Down M. Vick's Performance

Once again I'm rewatching the Eagles preseason game. While it may not be the Eagle's most impressive game this preseason, I saw a lot of good things:

  • Vinny Curry needs to start.
  • Nate Allen is useless in every single aspect of the game.
  • Connor Barwin showed he can do a bit of everything with his play.
  • Mychal Kendricks is becoming a beast in the backfield. He has another week with a great sack.
  • Cox and Thornton are playing really well.
  • Earl Wolff is not ready just yet.
  • Travis Long is not being held back by his ACL injury last year.
  • Casey Matthews was near the ball on almost every play he played.
  • Knott, McCoy, and Acho seem to be good depth pick-ups.
  • Shady played limited snaps. I guess to prevent injury.
  • Bryce Brown and Chris Polk both can be back ups in the NFL.
  • Bryce still has a case of fumblitis. Hope this wont last long.
  • DeSean Jackson is back. He recorded 3 receptions for 48 yards. He is a great asset and looks like he can thrive in the system.
  • Riley Cooper can be a red zone threat.
  • Jason Avant has the best hands in the NFL. He is a great safety valve for Vick.
  • Damaris is a great returner but if that ball hits the ground one more time I'm going to flip out.
  • Alex Henery obviously wants to keep his job. Henery quietly had his best performance of the preseason.
  • Jason Kelce snapped the ball twice badly once causing a fumble.
  • Kelce and Herremans were getting man handled the entire game.
  • Foles played well but considering he played against the threes...dink and dunks are not gonna cut it. He still played well enough that he helped us score.

Now to Vick. Vick completed the game 16-23 for a touchdown and an interception. I counted only four bad passes. The pick was a bad pass thrown awkwardly. He should have tucked that one in. The second of the four bad passes was not a pass and was ruled a sack, however he threw the ball when it wasn't needed into the air. The O-Line on both these two passes was horrendous, but Vick's decisions did not help. The other two were over throws to Brent Celek. Celek, his biggest reciever, seems to get most of the overthrows. This is strange because when Vick throws the ball to him a lot. Any way Vick missed a sure touchdown with one pass and over threw badly on the other. Those were Vick's only four bad throws on the night. Other than that, Vick was sharp on the night. He hit DeSean on a couple of comeback routes. Celek and Avant were constant pass targets. Vick even got Riley Cooper involved as well on one of the prettiest touchdown strikes I've seen from Vick this preseason. Vick also threw the ball away greatly and carried the ball with little to no risk for injury. He had over 50 yards rushing on the night-second most on the team. He did a great job at times eluding the pass rush. Two great things to takeaway is that we were able to get a touchdown in the red zone and we scored 16 points in the first half alone. Those are two major things that we were not able to do at all last year. It is only the preseason and Chip has yet to show his full hand. That's probably why he is closing practices more often. The offense looked differently from game two. I cannot wait until week one when we can truly evaluate games.
