I've been to NovaCare to watch the team practice. I was in attendance at the Linc for the first pre season game. Maybe it's me but the Eagles seem under sized. The player's all seemed coached to say all the right things. Watching the Eagle's first play on Defense against New England I was just sicken, the overall lack of effort. I'ved watched High School football Defenses that looked better. Yes new coaches, new schemes, ect. Truth be told, I doubt you have the player's to play excellent Defense at this level.
The offense in it's vanilla form shows promise. I am not gonna go over all I saw that they did well. Enough to know they are capable of moving the ball and scoring points. Which is good to know if your Defense is soft as butter on a hot August afternoon.
Special Teams seems to be a much improved unit. Don't get me wrong there is still lot's of room for improvement, but as a unit they played well together. There seemed to be an urgency and high energy there that I didn't sense with the Defense. The lone bright spot came with good effort and push from DL's later in the game. Hoping against hope this unit can come in to it's own and dominate.
Bottom Line Defenses Win Championships, our Defense is the weak link on this football team. Until that changes to the Defense being the Team's strength. I expect 4-6 wins a season will continue. The Defense needs to be a priority in free agency ,in the 1st round of the draft, spending, and the overall team attitude on Defense needs to change.
I love my beloved Eagles, when the Team has been Great in the past, it had Great Defenses to lead the way. Granted not all the starter's started or played the whole game.
Less than thirty days till opening Night kick off in Washington. RGIII will have a field day at the Special Olympics unless are team's Defense gets serious, shows up, and shuts down. So player's on Defense Suit up, Show up, and Shut up! Do your talking on the field!
