1-4 LT Lane Johnson
The Johnson pick was a safe pick and it fit a need. I wonder how close to BPA it was, and if he is anywhere near the 4th best player in this draft we will all be pleased.
2-35 TE Zack Ertz
I believe Ertz was an excellent pick. As much as I like Celek, he isnt a world-beater and Ertz has alot of potential.
3-67 DT Bennie Logan
He should be part of our rotation, if not starting this season is my epectation.
4-98 QB Matt Barkley
We gave up one of our 7ths to move up to get him, but thats not a big deal. Very uneasy about taking a USC QB, but its definetely the right part of the draft to be taking a risk. I dont think anything is out of the question with our shake depth, but I think its a long shot for him to start this year.
5-156 SS Earl Wolff
Dont know too much on him. Hope he can come in and compete. Would be great if he could win the SS spot.
7-212 DE Joe Kruger
Like his size. Think he can bring some of what his brother brings.
7-218 CB Jordan Poyer
From what Ive seen of Poyer, hes impressed. Everyone has raved about him. But i just get that feeling he fell for a reason such as his less than ideal speed and how that will transfer. Easy to root for, kinda like a Macho Harris. Heres to hoping his career is much, much better.
7-239 DE David King
Dont know much about him. May be just a camp body, but hopefully turns out to be good depth for the DL.
Initial Grade would be a B
i think they really stuck close to BPA but also hit alot of needs. It seems Kelly has a good feel for the talent on this team and hopefully becomes the trend of colleges coaches who have made the transition in recent years and drafted well like Harbaugh and Carroll.
Of the UDFAs, obviously Brad Wing stands out. Hope he can atleast push Donnie Jones, if not steal the job. I see people talking up Quinn and Knott. Im hoping Quinn can take Reynaulds job as Kelces backup.
Overall I feel we did well. Its going to be a process, but we got some talented players and some depth.
