Eagles select Oklahoma DT David King with the 239th pick in the 2013 NFL Draft

With the 239th pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the Eagles grabbed Oklahoma defensive tackle, David King, with their final pick in the annual selection process. At 6'4" and 285-pounds, King is just another big body added to the Eagles defensive line. He has 34 inch arms according to CBS Sports, which is good length for 5-technique. Obviously, Fletcher Cox and Cedric Thornton needs backups, which is likely what King and Joe Kruger will be in 2013, but it is obvious that Chip Kelly and Howie Roseman were being honest when they said they prefer the "meat and potatoes" of this draft. He was a teammate of Eagles first-round pick, Lane Johnson, at Oklahoma.

Here is what CBS Sports had to say about the big boy from Oklahoma:

David King, Oklahoma, has been selected Honorable Mention All-Big 12 Conference (Media selection) for the 2012 college football season.

King brings some versatility along the defensive line, having started games at end and tackle and moving between the two positions over the past three seasons.

CBS Sports considered King a 7th Round-UFA grade.

Mike's Take: This pick is just Chip and Howie building depth on the defensive line. While Andy Reid was killed for his predictable drafting, I am glad to see Howie has not abandon the "building from the lines on out" approach. I have not watched tape of King, so I cannot speak to his strengths or weaknesses but clearly the Dynamic Duo thought enough of him to take him in the draft instead of signing him as an undrafted free agent. Overall, the team has added a potential starting quarterback down the road, two 5-techniques, a hybrid nose tackle/3-technique, a starting right tackle, a cornerback that will compete for a starting spot, and a tight end/wide receiver chess piece extraordinaire. Not a bad haul.
