The pick is very much consistent with what we've heard about Chip Kelly's philosophy from the start. He planned on stockpiling TEs and using lot of two TE sets. With Brent Celek already here, James Casey coming via free agency and now Zach Ertz being added, it's quite clear what Chip is planning to do.
Ertz, who was the nation's top TE recruit out of high school, measured in at 6-5, 249 pounds at the combine. Last year, he led Stanford in receptions (69), yards (898) and TDs (6) while being the primary weapon on offense. His 898 yards led all TEs in the nation.
He's known for his sure hands and fluid route running but not exactly his speed. He's not much of a blocker at this point, but has improved in that area. He's a big body, commands the attention of defenses and could play a big part in the reshaping of the Eagles offense. For all the Eagles fans pining for a big red zone target... Here you go.
