Every year it seems there are one or two players that fall far beyond where scouts predicted. In 2004 LB Shaun Phillips fell all the way to the 4th round though mocked as a high second rounder. In 2005 Aaron Rodgers fell to the 24th pick before being grabbed by the Packers. The list goes on: Jahri Evans in 2006 was drafted in the fourth round despite being praised by Mel Kiper, Joe Staley falls to the 28th pick in '07. There is evidence to support that players sliding isn't always an indication of talent level, despite the Brady Quinn/De'quan Bowers phenomenon. However, this year is stocked full of first and second round talent that could potentially fall to the Eagles. It only depends on if the Eagles are ready to catch them.
Damontre Moore- Though Moore was once viewed as a top 5 pick, his stock has fallen so dramatically you'd assume he had a major injury. However, other concerns such as upper body strength and motor have led to his fall. The Eagles are admittedly shorthanded at players who can get to the QB. I think if Moore were to fall to the #36 pick the Eagles would have to take a long look.
D.J. Fluker- For some reason I have yet to see a single mock with the Eagles selecting Fluker., which baffles me. He has the distinction of being the draft's run-blocking lineman, which the Eagles could use desperately on the right side. He is also athletic enough to participate in the Eagles "track meet" offense. Admittedly, if he were to fall to the second, teams would be phoning in constantly to move up for his services. But anything is possible.
Bjeorn Werner- The idea of Werner falling this far is a stretch, but his name is getting lost among all of the other QB killers in the draft, which is a prospect's nightmare come draft day. Don't be surprised if Werner were to fall to 36.
Brandon Williams- Maybe the most talked about prospect as of late, is absolutely shattering expectations. If he were to fall to the second or possibly third round, I think the Eagles would be nuts to pick this guy. He's an absolute freak and would destroy offensive lines for years to come with Fletcher Cox.
Marcus Lattimore- This is a selfish pick, I just really like the guy. Maybe a fourth rounder is a reach, but with a fifth? Why not? Three backs THAT talented all in the same backfield, Chip Kelly's sweatpants would get a lot shorter.
Honorable Mention- Jarvis Jones(2nd), Matt Elam(2nd), Justin Hunter(2nd), Tank Carradine(2nd), Terron Armstead(3rd), Kyle Long(3rd), Jame Collins(4th), Tyrann Matieu(4th), Justin Pugh(5th), Knile Davis(7th).
Whatever the Eagles decide to do, I hope that it involves at least a couple of the guys on that list. I'm just ready for some drafting! Comment if you think I missed anyone, I'd appreciate a thoughtful conversation with you over tea and warm cider.
