First off, whether you're in the 3-4 or 4-3 under the line backers play a critical role. As far as I'm concerned our best LB doesn't even fit in a 3-4 or 4-3 under. DeMeco is a smart instinctual linebacker with good speed, but a guy who can take on guards? I don't see it. Moreover, I think he could garner at least a 3rd round pick to a 4-3 team who figures to be in contention next year.
Does anyone think Trent Cole belongs on a rebuilding team? He's going to be 31 in October, which means by the time this team is ready to contend, he's likely going to be out of the league or a situational pass rusher at best. Since he came off a horrible season, it would be tough to get anything for him, but at this point, I'm ok with an Asante-esque salary dump trade. And remember Cole's whole game was using his speed and leverage to beat tackles around the edge. Once his speed goes it's not like he had a bull rush or swim move that he can pull out of his arsenal....
So not only do we need picks to build our front 7 (LB, NT), we need at least two decent picks in the secondary... Assuming we keep DRC, and due to his age , potential and connection to Davis, I believe we do, that leaves CB2, and both safety positions that need some serious addressing.
Some people might really disagree with me here, but our best players on our O-line (Herremanes, Peters, and Mathis) are all on the wrong side of 30. Lineman can get old FAST (remember the Giants O-line in 08-09?)... But quite honestly I would have no problem with moving anyone of these guys to the highest bidder with the most return...Because again, these are all guys that are going to be either out of the league or cheap stop-gaps for other teams by the time the Eagles are ready to compete again.
Just a thought for a team, with so many needs.
