January 16th 2013, Philadelphia Eagles hire Chip Kelly. 21 days later, and the Head coach still hasn't me face to face with young QB, Nick Foles? Atleast a hand full of players have met with the new coach already. Mike Vick is said to have met with Chip on multiple occasions already. For a fan, who is "cautiously encouraged" by what he saw from Foles this past year, this is starting to get alarming. What does this mean? Speculation has it interpretted in two ways:
1) This is a sign that chip has no intentions of making Foles the leader of his offense. I would find it very hard to believe that we would keep Vick, start him, while Foles sits on the bench. Not only would that take a season of valuable game experience away from the kid (during a season in Philly where the stakes wont be as high as they have normally been around here), but it would also mean that the kid would spend a season, barely getting any practice reps. To me, this is a very scary thought and the number 1 reason why when we were looking for a coach, I was significantly higher on Gus Bradley than I was with Chip, For the fear that chip couldnt work with a traditional pocket passer. The way I view things is, if the Eagles bring back Vick for 1 more year, it would mean that Foles wont even be on this roster come september. To move away from any young QB that has flashed the tiniest bit of potential after half of a rookie season is a huge mistake. QBs are so hard to find, that you dont give up on a young one, or discard him, until you are absolutely certain that he can NEVER become a franchise guy.
2) The other interpretation is that Foles place on this team is so safely etched in stone, that there is no rush for Chip and Foles to sit down and talk and that talking to Vick is more important at the present moment because of the timeline in which a decision about his future in Philly needs to be made.
How do you interpret what it means that Chip and Foles have not met face to face yet? Anyone alarmed? Or am I just reading too much into this?
