I woke up to the realization that there will be such a minimal difference between all the prospects that we will be considering at #4, that simply chosing the your personal favorite isnt worth passing up the opportunity to pick up an extra 3rd and a 4th which would likely be the compensation for trading back to 11. I think we can all agree that the player that we will end up drafting at 4 lies somewhere in this group: Joekel,Star,Jarvis,Milner,Fischer,Warmack,Damontre,Bjoern,Dion,Mingo..... One of those ten prospects would be our choice at #4. Chosing one of these guys is just splitting hairs. How much better of a prospect is Joekel than Fischer? Jarvis/Mingo/Jordan (all 3 have questions)? Bjoern/Damontre? If you like Star at Nose, Hankins,Jesse williams, Jenkins all can get the job done I believe at the next level. If you like Star as a 3-4 DE there isnt much of a drop off with guys like Sharif Floyd, sheldon Richardson, Kawaan Short. Chance Warmack will be an absolute stud, NO DOUBT ABOUT IT, but there is a reason a guard hasnt been taken in the top 5 in a gazzillion years lol. I would see tremendously more value, trading back like 3 times to get to #20 to draft Jonathon Cooper, then taking Warmack with the 4th pick....as for Milner, let me start off by saying, just cause we might want every draft to have a top 5 corner, doesnt mean there will be one every year, and this year there are NO CBs that should be taken in the top 5. Everyone seems to think the Eagles and Lions are considering Milner in the top 5, i DOUBT IT! Both need pass rushers, which happens to be the strength at the top of this draft class. I have serious reservations about taking a guy at #4 who has never backpeddled in College. Call me crazy (which you all do anyway), but I would feel MUCH better about drafting Desmond Trufant anywher from #22-40, then taking Milner at #4. Desmond put on a clinic at the senior bowl. Everything yuou like about Milner: size, tackling, Physicality, lockdown man ability, you get with Desmond. Desmond was one of the few defenders on his team to hold his own against Baylor and the RG3 attack. Not to mention, Desmond will be much more ready Day 1, then Milner will be (its gonna take some time learning how to play the position in a totally different way then what has made him a prospect you consider at #4). Missing out on Desmond or Milner is not the end of the world with guys like Banks,Poyer,Logan,Rhodes still in play.
At the top of the post, I listed the 10 prospects we all seem to agree on that the eagles are considering at #4. The only way you miss out on 1 of these guys at 11, is if Geno smith is the only QB taken in the top 10, which right now seems like a good possability, but desperate QB needy teams always fall in love with QBs during the combine, and I wouldnt be surprised to see 2-3 QBs come off the board in the 1st 10 picks. If Geno, and 1 more QB get drafted, it will mean that at 11, one of these 10 prospects will still be on the board. Drafting Milner, or Warmack seem much sexier to me if we aquire an extra 3rd and 4th round pick in the process. As crazy as it sounds, I think 1 of these 3 guys are going to fall to 11: Damontre, Bjoern or Star. Jarvis and Dion could still be there at 11 due to medical problems. Fisher and Chance have a shot at not being taken in the top 10 (due to team needs). This is the first time as a fan, that I have ever actually WANTED to trade back in the first round and I guess it comes from the value I see in rounds 2-4, and the lack of seperation in the prospects at the top of the draft.Worst case scenario, NO QBS are taken in the top 10, and we miss out on the original prospects I listed, we still walk away with a helluva prospect while picking up more picks such as: Ziggy Ansah,Sheldon Richardson aka baby COX, any WR we want,Hankins/Jenkins, Jonathon Cooper, ogletree, jonathon Banks.
Thus, I am now officially convinced that we should trade back to 10 or 11. I would even consider trading back like 3 times in round 1 all the way back to like 22 if possible, picking up like 5 extra valuable picks in the process, and just snatching up trufant, cooper, Ogletree, Lane Johnson, a WR or a TE, or Alex Okafor.. I see so much more value in trading back, then splitting hairs..trade back and let the draft board chose your guy! When you have needs everywhere you look, now is the time to do it! We walk away from this draft with 3 kids that can play, and we still have PROBLEMS! We need to turn over a high number of roster spots, accumilating more picks in a deep draft class should be our strategy! We have to try and come away from this draft with atleast 5 kids that can play. YES I KNO, easier SAID than DONE! In Howie we trust! lol
