Chip Kelly spoke publicly for just the 3rd time as head coach of the Eagles today when he met the media at start of the NFL's annual scouting combine in Indianapolis. He addressed a few of the burning topics of the Eagles offseason including the futures of guys like Nick Foles and Nnamdi Asomugha.

As for the rumors about the team possibly trading Foles and whether he can or can't be a fit in Kelly's system... The Eagles coach says he really wants to get a chance to coach the guy first.

"I wanna coach Nick (Foles). I wanna spend time with him and see him. I've said it before, I was a big fan of the way he plays the game, his toughness, his ability to throw the ball very accurate."

It's a simplistic, but ultimately sensible answer. Chip has certainly seen Foles on film and in college, but the reality is that he's only been here a few weeks. To assume he's already made the decision to give up on a young QB without even putting him through a drill doesn't make a lot of sense.

When asked about CB Nnamdi Asomugha, he gave a decidedly more odd assessment...

"I think Nnamdi (Asomugha) has a skill set that can play football," Chip told reporters.

Is that an endorsement? A veiled criticism? Just a string of meaningless words designed to get to the next question? I honestly can't say, but I would bet on a combination of the latter 2.

Overall, there weren't may specifics from Kelly. He said he's watched every Eagles game from 2012 and the cutups of every player on the roster, but still declined to give an overall assessment on the talent of the team. He says that beyond the film, he still needs to see the guys on the field and hasn't gotten an opportunity to do that. Also there has been no final decision on who will call the offensive plays and he was never close to signing with the Browns.
