Should Michael Vick say he's an elite QB? That seems to work, just ask Eli Manning and Joe Flacco. Or, should Nick Foles say he's an elite QB? What about the recently signed Dennis Dixon? This year is going to be a very interesting year for our beloved Eagles. Will Chip Kelly's offense transition well into the NFL? The biggest factor, is Michael Vick's health. He claims to be working hard, training, and praying that he can stay healthy for a full season. Something he's done only once in his career. Vick, while not the runner he was, is still light on his feet and extremely elusive. However, this offense, Chip Kelly's offense, is predicated on the QB being able to get rid and take care of the ball, take big hits, and NOT get sacked. These are things Michael Vick couldn't do last year. So what makes us think he will be any different this year? Just because there's an offense in place that fits his abilities, doesn't mean he's not injury prone. Could Foles run the offense? Highly doubtful. Not the best scrambler and definitley doesn't have the speed Vick or Dixon have. Could Dixon run it? Sure, he's proven he can.
What about the RB situation? LeSean McCoy is one of the best running backs in the league. I'd say top 5, if not top 3. There will be a "running back rotation" this year, as we all know. I'm not sure I like this. Sure, the offense is taxing. But, Bryce Brown has a terrible fumbling problem. Should we rely on him to keep a drive going, when or if Shady needs a break? I have my doubts.
The offensive line was terrible at best last year, but there's no doubt it will be significantly better with guys like Peters returning to health.
The defense was bad, especially the secondary. I have no idea what happened to Nnamdi last year. But, the guy was getting burnt every time I turned on the Eagles game. Which was every week. It was terrible. We have to get tougher. We have to go back to what we were like when we had Brian Dawkins, Jerimiah Trotter, Hough Douglas, etc. Offenses have to be intimidated like they were under Jim Johnson. If we can get back to the smash mouth, hard hitting D, we should be looking great going into next season.
This year will be very interesting. There are many questions regarding the season, and these questions can only be answered after we see how the team works together. It will be one of the more exciting Eagles' seasons in recent memory. Second, maybe, to the Super Bowl 39 team. I hope you all have as much fun as I will, watching how this works out leading up to, during and after the season! GO BIRDS!
