What to Root For: Peace, Love & Macklemore

First we was like...

then the bears was like...

and now Mike Kaye be like...

According to this really smart person we have a >60% chance of making the playoffs with the majority of that percentage coming from wining the division. One significant change with the Dallas loss Monday night is that we can now lose a game and remain in contention for the division title. The one game lead we gained is important because at this point we must win the NFC east outright as there is no way we can win a tie breaker against the Cowboys. A win this week over the Vikings secures us at the very least a chance to play for the division title in week 17. Best case scenario we win the next two weeks, Dallas drops one more and we clinch the division next Sunday night with a win over the Bears. Our magic number is 2 wins + 1 Dallas loss.

Outside of winning the division making the playoffs is kinda a long shot. While both wild card spots are up for grabs the 9ers and Panthers have a real grip on them. Our best shot at earning a wild card spot depends on us getting to 10-6 and also requires either the 9ers or Panthers getting to 6 losses. That means the 9ers have to drop 2 out of 3 to the Bucs/Falcons/Cards or the Panthers drop 2 out of 3 to the Jets/Saints/Falcons. After that we would still need the Cards to lose a Game to get to 10-6. Like I said kinda a long shot when you consider all the help we need.

While we are on the topic of long shots a first round bye isn't out of the question. This would most likely require us wining out to get to 11-5, the Saints losing 2 out of 3 to the Rams/Panthers/Bucs and the Panthers losing 1 game to the Jets/Saint/falcons. A bit unlikely but considering the Saints and Panthers play each other we are already 1/3 of the way there, its never to late to dream... And its never too early to start thinking about who we would want to play in the first round of the playoffs.

With our win over the Lions we are most likely to earn the 3 seed in the NFC which means we would play the 6 seed at home, currently the 9ers, that kinda sucks... Of the possible 6 seeds the 9ers might be the last one I want to face. Looking at the probable wild card teams; 9ers, Panthers, Cards, Bears/lions; I want to play the Panthers. I'm thinking they have the least amount of offensive weapons, Cam Newton isn't an elite passer and their secondary is completely exploitable if you can handle the guys they have up front.

Here we are in week 15 with a lot of moving parts and still the same deal. One week season, beat the Vikings!
