Former Eagles backup QBs Trent Edwards and Mike Kafka tryout for the Falcons

Howard Smith-US PRESSWIRE

The Falcons double-dipped on former Eagles linebackers earlier this season, now they are checking out their one-time backup quarterbacks.

The Falcons seem to like Andy Reid's former players. Earlier this season, the Falcons added former Philadelphia linebackers Jamar Chaney and Omar Gaither to their roster. Now those same Falcons are looking into former Eagles backup quarterbacks. Trent Edwards and Mike Kafka both worked out for Atlanta this week, according to Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun.

Edwards asked for and was granted his release from the Eagles earlier this summer and very briefly was on the Bears roster in the preseason. Kafka bounced around from the Patriots to the Jaguars during the offseason but his interest has lulled since he was dropped by Jacksonville during final cuts. Ironically, Edwards spot on the Eagles roster in 2012 was at the cost of Kafka, who was a fourth-round pick in 2010. Kafka lasted just two seasons with the Eagles but showed promise in a few appearances.

The Falcons have not signed either player, so the Falcons may not have liked what they saw or they are just working on their emergency list. Dominique Davis currently serves as Matt Ryan's sole backup but he was injured in on Sunday in a Week 11 blowout loss to the Buccaneers.
