Report: Nick Foles is the Eagles Starting Quarterback for Rest of the Season

A report from Howard Eskin states that Chip Kelly won't officially name Nick Foles as the Eagles' starting quarterback, but Foles will start the team's remaining games anyway.

According to a report from Howard Eskin, Nick Foles is the Philadelphia Eagles starting quarterback for the remainder of the 2013 season.

Eskin notes that Eagles coach Chip Kelly won't officially confirm the notion, at least not yet, but Foles will start regardless. Kelly spoke to the media on Monday but yet again wouldn't officially commit to Foles.

I think what we've done for the last two weeks has worked for us pretty good, so we're going to stick with that formula.  It's got us 16 touchdowns, no interceptions and two wins, so why would we change?

Understand that Kelly's "why would we change" comment was said with some sarcasm. What Kelly really meant is that his approach to not "officially' naming a quarterback has worked well the past two weeks, so he doesn't see a reason to change that approach.

Kelly isn't wrong; Foles has played well in his last two starts. Take a look at the numbers: 34 of 46 (73.9%) with 634 yards, 10 touchdowns and 0 INTs for a 155.3 passer rating. Most importantly, the Eagles are 2-0 in those games.

Assuming Eskin's report is true, Michael Vick won't play again this season, barring an injury to Foles. Vick, if healthy, would likely be the team's primary backup QB in this case. It seems like Vick still isn't 100% healthy yet though. He re-injured his hamstring a few weeks ago and hasn't been able to fully participate in practice since then.

Vick was originally named the team's starter after winning the job in an open competition held in training camp and preseason. The veteran quarterback hasn't started since returning too early and looking unfit to play against the Giants in Week 8.

Injury update: Speaking of injuries, but unrelated to the main subject of this post, Eskin also gave an update on some of the Eagles' injured players. According to the report, Eagles rookie Earl Wolff is likely out versus Washington with a knee injury. Mychal Kendricks (knee) might also miss time, but starting left tackle Jason Peters is likely to play.
