Haha, what a game yesterday! Gotta love a win at Lambeau, 'cause a win at Lambeau is a win at Lambeau no matter which way you look at it. Our team got the win, as well we should against a team playing 90% of the game with its 3rd string QB.
I am not going to anoint Nick Foles the next elite QB. I really like him and some of the things he does, he has looked great at times and it is hard to argue with statistics. I was wondering if one of those underthrown balls was on purpose yesterday and apparently the Cooper one was. If the average football fan saw those three throws and didn't see the results, he would be asking how many got intercepted. Instead, this lucky @$$ mofo completes two for touchdowns and the other falls harmlessly incomplete, although Desean coulda caught it if he didn't lose it in the sun. My point is, these kind of throws can't keep succeeding as they did yesterday.
I saw him do some other good stuff yesterday too. He really ebbed confidence and poise in the pocket. I really liked his first incompletion. Everyone was covered, he stepped outside the pocket and pointed for Cooper to head for the sideline. He threw it and it went off Coop's fingertips for an incompletion. Good communication, safe throw, pocket awareness, booya.
I have grown so confident in him completing third and long after last week. On the first set of downs on the methodical 9:32 last drive, we get to third and 2. McCoy runs for 1 yard but they call false start. Fortuitous as we didn't have the first down with the run and now it is 3rd and 7. I say to my friend, no problem, now Foles is going to get the first down. And he did. I'd like to also point out that this was a nice playcall adjustment. This blitz gave the Pack a sack earlier in the game and they dialed it up again. Chip dials up a TE screen over the middle, right where the blitz came from and Casey converts it for the first. Casey held that ball up in the air like he was a kid showing off a birthday present, with a big grin on his face. He was so giddy just to touch the ball twice yesterday(the other on a KO return).
The last observation I have from yesterday is on Foles' running. He ran multiple times in yesterday's games, and every time before his last run, he either ran OB or slid feet first. Except for the last run. 2nd and 9, just over 2 min left. Foles pulls the ball down almost immediately and jets(ok maybe not jets, um slugs?) right. He has room and he's about 2 yards short of the 1st, and he makes a heady play and slides head first and gets the 1st. It seemed to me all the defenders were hesitant to dive after him. Were they hesitant to dive because they expected him to slide feet first? I just love the calculated risk/reward here. It ends up being the play that lets us kneel out the rest of the time.
I'm really excited to watch him grow some more. Please note that I am not giving him sole credit for the win yesterday, many players made plays, Shady deserved alot of credit as does the coaching staff(excpet Shurmur maybe, get some freakin' glasses!). He looks like a guy who throws a consistent ball and could win some games with a good defense. I hope we get to see him in some clutch games/moments to see how he deals with those. Perhaps, dare I say...in a playoff game? First place, you cowboy cockroaches! Oh yeah, one other thing, this should be the next McD's commercial...the Eagles on their last drive, every play the whole team would look at the sideline with about 15 secs to go on the playclock...mighty wings here yet? Nope. Ok, snap the ball.
