Former Eagles News: LB Jamar Chaney cut by the Falcons

Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports

Chaney's second turn as a bird takes a nose dive...

Former Eagles linebacker Jamar Chaney has been cut by the Atlanta Falcons. The one-time starter was signed in September after Atlanta encountered several injuries to their linebacker corp. Chaney and fellow former Eagles backer Omar Gaither were signed on the same day. Gaither seems secure on the roster after appearing in three games and registering eight tackles.

While Chaney was signed for depth purposes, he only appeared in one game for the Falcons. The fourth-year player failed to record any stats in the one game against the Jets in Week 5. He will now be subject to waivers after being cut to make room for veteran linebacker Thomas Howard, who formerly played for the Bengals and Raiders.

This is another tough break for Chaney, who was a seventh-round pick out of Mississippi State in 2010. He will likely go unclaimed but could get a look from teams like the Texans or Dolphins, who recently suffered injuries to linebacker groups. It seems another one of Howie Roseman's former draft picks will be well-traveled during his NFL career.
