Can we please stop now with the Jeff Maehl or TE lined up out wide or Demaris nonsense?

Riley Cooper, meat head that he is, was kept on this roster for a reason after his stupid and insensitive actions at that concert. He isn't the smoothest route runner. He is no better than a 3rd option WR on most teams. But he doesn't suck. He is big, strong, reasonably fast/quick for his size, can block, and is willing/able to act as a decoy. We saw today that if Desean is taken out of the game that Cooper isn't as completely useless as most assumed. He's also literally our only viable option as a starting outside receiver.

Things I do not wish to read the rest of this season:

1) Just line up Ertz wide instead!!!

Right, 'cause he has the speed to play that position full time? What? How? Why? No, please don't answer.

2) Give Jeff Maehl a shot!

This one is the most mystifying to me. If our HC didn't have Oregon ties with him he might not have made the roster. And if it wasn't for two WR injuries, he definitely would not have made the roster. Maehl is probably a better underneath route runner, but he just doesn't have the physical tools to replace Cooper's role in our near top ranked offense. Maybe give Maehl a look in the red zone on occasion instead of Cooper. That's about it.

3. Demaris maybe?

I could live with more Demaris out wide and in the slot. But he obviously isn't the same fit as cooper. We can't have two smurfs at WR. He is not the same down field threat as Cooper or blocker. If Demaris gets more snaps, I would not be opposed. But he can't replace Cooper full time in this offense. And some of his snaps would actually take from Avant. Our offense is humming along pretty well, so I am fine with keeping some Demaris screen pass plays in the back pocket until we have to play our divisional foes a 2nd time.

Rant over....for now.
