Eagles-Buccaneers Game to be Played as Scheduled

Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY

Sunday's Eagles at Buccaneers game is still scheduled to be played despite a MRSA scare among Tampa Bay players. The NFL released a statement on the situation.

Good news, everyone. The Eagles and Buccaneers are still scheduled to play on Sunday 1 PM EST in Tampa Bay.

The game's status never seemed in serious doubt, but according to an ESPN report there was a chance the NFL Player's Association could have advised the game not to be played. The main concern involved several Bucs players - Carl Nicks, Lawrence Tynes, and Jonathan Banks - dealing with a MRSA scare.

Here's the official statement from the NFL. Bold emphasis is mine.

The NFL and NFLPA have worked together in response to the MRSA matter in Tampa Bay. The jointly retained specialist has met with the team, supervised the inspection of the facilities, conducted medical examinations and agrees with the team medical staff that [Bucs cornerback Jonathan] Banks does not pose a risk of transmission to other players. The specialist also met with team officials from the Eagles. All players have been advised of the process and we will continue to work together to jointly monitor the situation.

It's nice to know, for everyone's sake, that player safety isn't in jeopardy.
