9) Eagles (2-3)
Yo ESPN... Why do you have Dallas listed above Philly in the NFC East? Do you not see the division records?
DGR – The Defense vs the Giants - Tommy Lawlor, Iggles Blitz
Up and down game. The defense gave up 383 yards and 21 points. There were times when Eli and the Giants moved up and down the field with ease. The Giants were 2 for 2 in the RZ. They had 5 plays of 20 yards or more. Eli was only sacked once. Now for some of the good. The defense also had 4 takeaways. They limited the Giants run game to 17-53. Eli was only 24 for 52. The Eagles had 11 pass deflections so they get some credit for the low percentage. Eli finished with a rating of just 56.1.
All-22: Kelly Unveils New Packaged Play - Sheil Kapadia, Birds 24/7
Chip Kelly was asked earlier this week why he called a run play on 3rd-and-9 against the Giants. "We thought it was a good play call at the time based on the defense they were deployed in," Kelly said. He was pressed further about the percentages of calling a run and converting in that situation. "Not if people are playing man‑to‑man coverage and totally turning your back on what’s going on and you have no run support," Kelly answered. "That is part of the thought process when you do that. If you’re going to just totally abandon and you catch people when they’re just totally trying to play the pass, a lot of people pop runs in those situations." The truth is Kelly didn’t call a straight-out run.
Film Breakdown: Scheming to get DeSean free - Derek Sarley, Philly.com
Following a seven-catch, 132-yard performance against the Giants, DeSean Jackson told the Daily News’ Les Bowen the team had a plan to finally shake the tight man-to-man coverage that had slowed the passing offense against Kansas City and Denver. Jackson said the Eagles need to "not let teams play us like that" and "It's always a great thing when you can make teams pay for the way they're playing us." Indeed it is, so let’s look at how they did it.
So far in red zone, Foles has edge over Vick - Reuben Frank, CSN Philly
Maybe it’s not a large enough a body of work to draw conclusions. Maybe it’s too early to even have this conversation. Maybe not. Because the Michael Vick vs. Nick Foles conversation isn’t complete without acknowledging that at least so far, Foles has been the more productive quarterback in the red zone.
Podcast: Manning Head – EaglesFanCast 151
Michael Vick pulled a hamstring running out of bounds on a play, and backup Nick Foles came in to lead the Offense. It appears that Vick will need to sit this week out against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as well. Foles will start and run the Offense for four full quarters, so the anticipation is high to see if he keeps his poise and executes as well as he did in New York. Either way, the media and some fans are talking about the "quarterback controversy" in Philly… but we see none. Vick is the team’s starter, and it is his job to lose.
John Hackworth’s response to Chip Kelly being called longest-tenured head coach in Philly: ‘It does piss me off’ - Dave Zeitlin
After being introduced as the "longest-tenured pro coach in Philadelphia" to start his weekly press conference, Hackworth was asked about the whole thing (however dumb it may seem) and gave a pretty great response, downplaying it from a personal perspective but expressing annoyance that soccer can often be overlooked in this city.
