So over the past few weeks I’ve seen filth after filth posted in the fan posts with the wonderful title of Mock Off Season. I finally came to the conclusion that I should produce my own filth for you all to mock. This is the fruit of my labor.
Coaching Staff -
I’m basically basically stealing the choices for coaching staff from The Dawkside because I really liked his choices.
Coach: Mike McCoy - He is my #1 choice for head coach. Why? his adaptability and balanced offense. I also see him as duplicating the success of the Harbaugh brothers ( yeah thats random but for some reason he just gives me that vibe). I think he's the perfect coach to make the Foleseon, DYNAMITE!
Offensive Coordinator : Geep Chryst – The SF QB coach who has worked with McCoy in the past and has also helped with bringing Alex Smith and Kapernick along.
Defensive Coordinator: Mike Trgovac – The guy who Andy probably should’ve hired instead of Castillo. I know I was on here clamoring for him at that time (under another username). He has done a great job with the GB D-line esp. with personnel changing almost every year.
Cuts & Salary Cap
2013 Salary Player
17.9 mill Mike Vick
9.6 mill Demetress Bell
4.064 mill Mike Patterson - not going to be popular but with Mike its out with the old in with the new
5.5 mill Cullen Jenkins
15.3 mill Nnamdi Asomugha
Just the main players I would cut.
Quick Calculations (numbers taken by http://www.eaglescap.com/ )
52.364 in cut salary
-12.7 dead money
_______
41.164
+18.0 carry over
_______
57.66 free money
135.784
-57.66
______
78.124
+ 9.000 highest allotment set apart for draft picks
______
87.124 cap before FA
121.0 Max Salary Cap
- 87.124
_______
33.876
After those simple calculations around 34 million in cap space is left.
Knowing Howie he will want to have some breathing room and carryover thus I'm taking 10 million out of the picture.
So that leaves about 24 million in money to spend.
P.S. Cutting Mike Vick would also help the prorated portion of his signing bonus be off the books. Thus saving us 1.4 million which can then be used to balance out the 1.4 million in dead cap space from past cuts and trades I forgot to subtract.
Free Agency
Free Agents
Dashon Goldson- FS - 4 years, 28 million – With Reid gone, the philosophy for not paying players at the linebacker and safety position must be thrown out the door as well. Jarius Bryd will most likely be franchised by Buffalo but Dashon Goldson’s contract demands will most likely not be met by San Francisco. This is where the Eagles swoop in and offer him a long term deal and the money he is seeking.
Jermon Bushrod- OT- 4 years, 32 million – The contract would be back loaded (a 6, 6, 10, 10 type deal). This move enables us to move Herramens to guard where he thrived and also gives us a fall back option if Jason Peters falters and also gives us his replacement.
Daryl Smith- SAM- 3 years, 14 million – The contract would have no guaranteed money the last year. At 30 Daryl Smith is a seasoned veteran who has played all three linebacker positions in the 4-3 defense. This last year he was injured for most of the season but came back towards the end of the season. He and Demeco Ryans will bring leadership and stability to the linebacking corps. Although he is 30 he still is one of the better linebackers in coverage and run support. His price tag will be team friendly due to him being injured this past season.
Matt Moore – QB- 3 years, 10 million – He is what I call Kyle Orton-lite. The familiarity with McCoy will help him get a job as a backup for the Eagles.
Re-Sign
DRC- 4 years, 24 million – Has all the talent in the world but still hasn’t learned how to put it together and be consistent. Not to mention has no clue how to tackle sigh. He comes back on a mid-level corner price.
The rest of the money for other FA’s will be used through money left over from my draft estimate and through other cuts.
Draft
The way I see the draft playing out KC will either go with a QB (Smith, Glennon) or Luke Joeckel. Yes, Luke Joeckel, Scott Pioli is a nut job and does things most ordinary humans wouldn’t do. Onto the Jags who I believe will pick up Jarvis Jones aka the best layer in the draft in my honest opinion. Next the Raiders, Tommy Kelly is most likely be cut and with Richard Seymour out the door, the "stars" are aligned for Star Lotulelei to become a Raider. This puts us on the clock and this is when we make a trade with the Buffalo Bills for their 1st and 2nd rd. picks. The Lions will most likely go for pass rush help, Browns for a linebacker and the Cardinals for a O-lineman. This leaves us in prime position to draft….
Round 1 (Buffalo)- DeMarcus Milliner, CB, Alabama –
The premier man to man cover corner of this class, he had a few missteps against LSU and Miss. State but for the most part has been the shutdown corner, he’s been billed as. He fills the open starting corner spot on the other side of DRC.
Round 2- Matt Elam, S, Florida –
What’s not to like about this guy, he’s rising up the boards fast and may not even be here when the draft comes along. He displays all around skills in both the run and pass games and also lays people out to boot. He would be a great strong safety.
Round 2 (Buffalo)- Kawann Short, DT, Purdue –
No he’s no Star Lotulelei but he is a premier pass rushing tackle among the best in college . He’s perfect for a 4-3 defense and has been constantly double teamed in college yet still managed to accumulate 42 tackles, 14.5 tackles for a loss, six sacks, four passes broken up, four blocked kicks and a forced fumble. In any other draft would be a sure fire 1st rounder but with many premier DT’s coming out and many underclassmen declaring he gets pushed to round #2.
Round 3- Desmond Trufant, CB, Washington –
I’ve actually seen this kid play live. I don’t know why he’s ranked so low on most recent mock drafts (thus my low ranking) because the kid I saw was a straight baller. He is another really good man cover corner. If Revis has an island in the NFL this kid had a island in the PAC-12. As you can tell I’m a big fan.
Round 4- Marcus Davis, WR, Virginia Tech – Marcus will be McCoy’s Demaryrius Thomas like project . He takes over for Maclin on the outside as Maclin moves inside to the slot. Marcus will most likely be moving up the boards like Trufant when draft time comes around but for now this is where I will slot him. He is agile and athletic not to mention tall. Even with his QB, Logan Thomas being horrendous he managed to put up decent numbers.
Round 5- Braden Hansen, C/G, BYU - Yeah, I know what you’re thinking, ANOTHER BYU LINEMAN, Andy’s not even here? But he’s a very decent prospect who can play both guard and center positions.
Round 6- Jake Stoneburner, TE, Ohio State – Was used by Urban Meyer much like Aaron Hernandez was. Legal problems will drop him; kid took got cited for public urination.
Round 7- Zaviar Gooden, OLB, Missouri – Was Sean Weaterspoon’s replacement had a couple of good season’s before last season where he majorly disappointed, he’s nothing more than a camp body.
Round 7 ( Bunkley compensation) - Michael Mauti, ILB, Penn State – Was a day 2 prospect before injuries knocked him out of the final game. He is definitely worth a 7th round flier.
