ESPN and NFL Network are listing Pat Shurmur as the person likely to be named to be the first Offensive Coordinator for the Chip Kelly era. As we all know, the only thing that the OC has to do is have the same general offensive philosophy as Chip, because the blueprint of what we do as an offensive team, will come from Kelly.
I've been on record as saying I wanted a coordinator with a some head coaching experience with Kelly, since he is lacking NFL experience. And while I would have preferred that person on the defensive side, I think adding Shurmur is a really good thing. I'm still anxious to see who the Defensive Coordinator will be, but this is a good piece to a nice puzzle.
I would have LOVED to see Ray Horton end up here. The Browns, though lacking at head coach, have put together a formidable set of coordinators in Turner and Horton. If we could get someone with some serious experience on the defensive side as a coordinator (See: Not Hermann), I'll be even more ecstatic.
