Protection and QB Confidence...How much longer will Reid wait to help Vick?

To me, and this is sad, this game coming up will probably be more of the same. The past three games the game plan, no matter the opponent nor the opponents strengths or weakness, has been PASS PASS PASS. They might run the ball " a little bit" more only because Shady has had very good success vs the Giants, but honestly Reid has not given me any other hint of changing his way. He's had 2 1/2 games (no halftime adjust vs the Browns) to help Vick out, but didn't budge. How do you help a struggling QB who keeps getting killed, and going through what appears to be an indecisive phase?

Well first, try to attempt to establish a run game. Pretty simple. Next, call three step drop pass plays or quick pass plays. Run screen plays early. All of these not only help a struggling QB, it also helps build a QBs confidence. Completing quick passes and screens allows for a QB to get into some sort of a rhythm. Running the ball puts less pressure on him. Call some fairly easy routes to get his mojo going. QBs like Tom Brady and Peyton Manning have killed teams with simple quick routes. No matter what Reid or Vick says right now, I feel like Vick doesn't have "QB" confidence right now. You've seen him trying to make great plays, but not great QB plays.

He's trying to create plays off of his sheer "athleticism". Holding on to the ball forever and scrambling at the last moment trying to squeeze a ball into double or triple coverage only resulting in an interception. Or how about scrambling for no reason trying to make something happen instead of throwing it away. Or my favorite, holding on to the ball waiting for that deep route to pan out, forgetting about the easy shallow routes or check down pattern, and then letting the ball rip at the last possible moment as he gets crushed by a blitzing DE or LB. Ring a bell?

Reid must put a stop to this and protect his investment. His best chance at a Superbowl trip is with Vick. At some point Reid has to realize his current game plan will not work until Vick gets his "QB" confidence up. Why keep calling play-action fake when your run game hasn't even been established yet? No one's gonna bite until you've at least established a shred of a run game, so why go through the extra steps and motions and just get the ball out of Vicks hands. Reid must at least attempt to alter his game plan or his investment/potential Superbowl ticket might not be around much longer.
