To Run or Not to Run

I have been a fan of Andy Reid for quite some time and have been the subject of much criticism as a supporter of Reid and my Eagles style of play. A major critique with Reid started with his lack of emphasis at certain positions...WR and LB'ers to name a few of several issues that haunted Reid early.

Clock and Game management also was bandied about intensely and continues to be a point of contention with many of our fans. In game adjustments left me wondering on several occasions... is my Head Coach looney.

    • Perhaps the greatest point of contention has been our Run Pass Ratio with many fans clamoring for the Head Coach to run the Ball. When we had players like Duce Staley, Corell Buckholter , and B West our fans demanded a more RUN oriented offence, with those players on board Reid complied. Many fans are from the Old School and demand a strong run game. ] We have all come to realize that Andy marches to the beat of HIS OWN DRUM... a characteristic that I demand from my Head Coach. Reid unleashed a pass first philosophy that at the time was deemed MADDNESS. The headlines would center around... " REID CONTINUES WITH HIS LUNACY" as his offence hovers around 60% to 70% pass first theme. " Reid will NEVER WIN A SUPERBOWL if he doesn't RUN the ball." In the N.F.C. East in the cold winter months Teams Must Run the ball to win. In hindsight Reid started a trend that has become VOGUE in this New N.F.L these days the most common statement is... " The N.F.L. is now a Passing League a 60% to 70% pass ratio is no longer uncommon, and in many instances some teams are NOW passing at a higher percentage than any Reid's team... to some degree Reid's once severely criticized pass first philosophy has helped shaped this New PASSING League. The 53 man roster has been set and of interest the 4 RB now on the roster.... Shady brings the total package to the run game... Dion Lewis broke all Shady's records at Pitt brings a similar style many consider Dion a scat back type. Bryce Brown a player I consider to have the ability to put Shady on the bench... offers elite speed with his 4.37 forty a man 220lbs with good hands, instincts and size with early production on the field. The Big Back , the type of runner long desired around here. Then there is Chris Polk a player that has grown on me with his VIOLENT, Physical style of play. All the elements for a Dynamic Run attack is now in place with these players in the fold . I can't imagine Reid not taking advantage of the Dynamic Elements these 4 RB bring to the table. Does this represent a shift back to a Run Centered Offence... we only kept 5 WR, is the three headed monster of yester- year on the come-back trail. Howie was asked if the reason he kept all 4 RB was because they didn't think Brown or Polk would make it to the Practice Squad with their talent. Andy has rarely been given credit for his innovation... those 4 very talented RB do y'all see a shift in philosophy. I believe that Andy SHOULD and WILL utilize what could be the most Dynamic Run game in the League this year... VERY curious to see how the 4 diverse styles are incorporated by my Coach? DARE I CALL Andy a TRENDSETTER... Time will Tell .
