Today, Chris Cooley, long-time Washington Redskins tight end and Eagles tormentor was released. He is 30 and coming off an injury-plagued season in which he had only 8 receptions for 65 yards. He would have counted as a cap hit of 6.3 million for the Redskins if they kept him, so it was a business decision on their part.
However, Cooley himself has said that he feels great. While he may not be good enough to beat out Fred Davis (who is starting to emerge as an above-average NFL player), he could be great as a backup here. At the very least, he would provide a strong veteran presence in the locker room.
