Spags Recruited to be Saints HC

Old news: New Orleans Saints were swift and stiffly punished for their involvement as an organization for their involvement in the "bounty scandal". Greg Williams is to be suspended indefinitely and Sean Peyton is done for the season. Former head coach of the Rams was hired as the Saints new D-Co in the offseason. Was his hire a hedge against impending sanctions?

Saints vs Eagles whose defense would you want to coach more? How would you choose between the two?

Philadelphia finished 8th overall in defense. Against the pass the were 10th best and against the run they were 16th. They were tied for first in sacks, Tied for 17th in INT's, tied for 10th in NFC in Fumbles recovered.

New Orleans finished 24th(-16) in total defense. Against the pass they were 30th(-20) and against the run they were 12th(+4), sacks tied for 19th(-19) INT's tied for 28th(-11), tied for 14th(-4)NFC fumbles recovered.

Comparing the inherited defenses the Eagles destroy the Saints. Add the talent level and we separate ourselves even more. Doug aka mighty joe banner, but the Saints offense is so much better it makes his job easier. My initial rebuttal is, if you were trying to be the best D-Co in the game, would you want your wins based on what the offense did or would you want to be the top ranked did that won in spite of your offense? Just saying......

Saints offense was first in the league with 7474 years from scrimmage. The Eagles were 4th with 6386. The Saints scored 10 more points than us. The Eagles allowed 24+ points per game last year. The 22nd ranked scoring defense let up 23.2 points(SD). So all Spags had to do if he came here was be better than the 22nd ranked defense with the better equipped, better performing, higher powered Eagles defense.

Spags family loves the Philadelphia area. We have some of the best schools in the country. The main line is the fourth wealthiest area in the NATION. Our state taxes are friendly and natural disasters are not a factor here. So why did Spags choose the Saints over the Eagles? Was it because Andy didn't go after him hard enough? Was it because he had to work with Washburn? No one will definitively answer those questions. But I submit that the Saints new they were under investigation and they let Spags know there was a possibility he could be HC. Hmm..you decide.
