DeSean Jackson: I'm "Honored" To Be Franchised

DeSean Jackson said last night to Tim McManus that he was "excited" to get the franchise tag. This morning in a statement to the Philadelphia Inquirer, he now says he's "honored."

"I am honored that the Eagles organization perceives me as a franchise player," Jackson said in the statement. "I look forward to getting a long-term deal done soon and being an Eagle for many years to come."

Getting the franchise tag and being seen as a franchise player aren't really the same thing, but if it makes DeSean happy, then so be it.

In the story, Jeff McLane says that DeSean indicated that he plans to sign the tender soon, echoing what we heard last night. If he signs the tender now, that means he'll be with the team at their facility for the full offseason. If he didn't show up, he would subject to fines for holding out. So there would be no good reason to sign the tender unless he intends to be a part of the full offseason program.
