For everyone mocking Luke Kuechly to us, her is an extensive look at what you're

giving up the 15thoverall pick for. I haven’t seen anyone else do research on Luke so I really don’t care if the source comes from BR.

Ok, so we’ve got one guys evaluation based on watching three games.

I’ve read differing opinions, but then again, talent evaluation is mostly opinion.

If i didnt have to work 16hr days Id do the research myself

but this is this is the third time I seen research done on Luke and they all say the same thing.
If you look at the tackles solely than of course he would be a 1st round pick. how many of those tackles came on pile ups? How many many were after a 5 to 10 yard gain?

by ASObyNature on Feb 7, 2012 3:21 PM EST up reply actions

Really.

National football post says he will be a tackling machine for years to come in the nfl. Also claims he can cover in zone on third down.

Yardbarker thinks his football IQ is off the charts and is a great run stuffer.

I guess all the reports say the same thing huh?

by Saidrick on Feb 7, 2012 5:43 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

We will,

Luke will be playing for another team in 2012, good or bad, and we’ll be watching our next useless, “high motor” DE sit on the sidelines.

If the bleacher report scouts say he’s bad, then he must be.

AR should have to wear a Flava Flav necklace until he learns how to manage a clock.

Very well written,

Your article essentially captures the gripping ennui that I have about this team.

I have to watch the Giants win in 2011 and Juan fucking Castillo come back in 2012.

I have to watch Howie Roseman trade up and abandon the next JPP or Earl Thomas for the next Brandon Graham.

It’s exhausting trying to expect value out of fool’s gold, year in and year out.

by UnclaimedFright on Feb 7, 2012 3:05 PM EST reply actions

This part I couldn't agree with more..
For the love of fucking God, start drafting bigger, more athletic players, instead of the undersized “fastballs” with “high motors.” This is especially necessary for a defense that was the SMALLEST IN THE ENTIRE LEAGUE this past season. If there isn’t a change in philosophy with the Eagles, there won’t be a change on the field either.

When I die, I want the Philadelphia Eagles to be the pallbearers at my funeral. So they can let me down, one last time.

by rich p on Feb 7, 2012 3:23 PM EST reply actions

It was a good article, even though I’m in the opposite frame of mind. I think next year is going to be amazing. I just feel like it will all come together (barring injuries of course). I can’t wait for free agency. I can’t wait for the draft. I can’t wait for mini camps. I can’t wait to go to training camp. I want to see the first game of the season so bad.

2011 New York Giants- Worst Super Bowl Champs Ever

If you want to wallow in delusion about this franchise’s ability to compete with the elite, feel free. After all, it’ll make you precisely the kind of fan Eagles management wants — a Kool-Aid-chugging lemming who will continue to feed the money machine, even as you blindly follow it right off a cliff.

2011 New York Giants- Worst Super Bowl Champs Ever

by bdawk4ever on Feb 10, 2012 3:14 PM EST up reply actions

Good Read
In other words, populate the roster with guys who aren’t soft pussies.

Pretty much won me over with that line although it may be slightly from the absolute truth. We don’t need the Burficts of the world persay (if we get him in the second ill be thrilled still) but we more toughness and strength on BOTH sides of the ball, which is what will win us a championship. The Giants aren’t the best team to ever win it all but they are sure one tough/physical: RB’s, WR’s, TE, Dline, Safteys all pretty tough and physical for the G-Men, even though I think we could have beat the very team that won it all had they played again. Thats why teams like the Giants more simply can win the ugly games in the playoffs, consistently take the 4-5 yard plays to build up to the big play and on defense get off the field on third down (specially 3rd and short), we just have to get a tad more talent and we can win multiple championships. The Giants have won 2 in 4 years off mostly consistent toughness, not too many flashy players on any of their last two teams, but alot of grit. But to Hell with the New York Football Giants. This is an has been about us - at least since about 2001- we could have easily walked away from #5’s career with 2 out of 4 years (02,04,08 are the years I felt we were the best team) and excluding QB/FS/LB’s we might be better in every position than those teams so we are not starting from scratch by any means but you have to make it in the dance to be able to take home the Holy Virgin Whore.

For forgot to add the DT’s too the excluded list

by EagleEyes on Feb 7, 2012 3:40 PM EST up reply actions

Very exhaustive ... very good.

Two things I disagree wth:

22 – Asante Samuel – Good riddance, you self-aggrandizing piece of shit. Get the fuck away from my football team. The front office is not without a heaping load of the blame in this debacle, but I’ve had enough of Asante’s act and me-first attitude.

Get off of his ass! He has produced since day fucking one! He wanted to be paid and deserved it. He was the best thing to happen to the our defense in the past decade! (The late Jim Johnson excluded.) I, for one, will hate to see him go. He likes it here, has been successful here, and what has he gotten in return (aside from his paycheck) – doubts of his return every year, rumors of trades, etc … the guy is just trying to settle in.
Second, I like the drafting of Luke. But I dont really care for the rest of the selections. A TE in second rd?!? really? when we have Celek and Harbor?? odd.

by thePurpleLion on Feb 7, 2012 3:42 PM EST reply actions

Agreed

He did have an attitude issue at times including this year here but he played hurt here & consistently produced.

Never understood the Samuel-haters kind of like I never understood the Watters-haters. If a guy plays hard on the field including when he is banged up, consistently produces at a high level, and is a guy who his teammates/coaches generally like even if he can appear a bit selfish at times that’s fine.

by MG77 on Feb 7, 2012 4:01 PM EST up reply actions

watters? the "for who, for what" watters ... really?

by thePurpleLion on Feb 7, 2012 4:16 PM EST up reply actions

It was one freaking comment/play. Watters played hard, was a workhorse on some mediocre Eagles’ offensive teams, and delivered decent numbers.

Yet because of one stupid play/comment Watters still has a bad rep in Philly. Its ridiculous.

by MG77 on Feb 7, 2012 6:42 PM EST up reply actions

I agree too

I can understand the business decision of trading him. But I don’t think he has ever done wrong by this organization. Last year we listened for offers on him, then chose not to trade him. He still performed well this season regardless.

I’m not really key on a TE draft either but otherwise good article and analysis

by Eaglessfan on Feb 7, 2012 4:20 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

A lot of those times,

When you sat there and said “Fuck you Juan Castillo, why did you put a 6th round safety on one of the best WRs in the game!?”

It’s because Asante Samuel had just jumped what he thought was a curl route twenty yards before the long reception is made.

Dude was not that good this year, and is on the wrong side of 30.

I love his swagger, but I don’t want to see ANYONE on this bullshit, overhyped team act like they deserve to talk smack anymore. They need to come out contrite, and realize that they’re just not that good. Maybe, if they have that attitude, they can try and get better rather than play like they did in 2011, when it was always “someone elses” job to beat the DB on the route, or make a tackle on defense.

by UnclaimedFright on Feb 7, 2012 4:14 PM EST up reply actions

Samuel played pretty well this year. He outplayed Nnadmi and certainly DRC who was mediocre at best.

Castillo should have been fired but he did have some really mediocre talent to work with at LB/S. There isn’t a defensive coordinator who could completely cover up Page/Coleman at S.

by MG77 on Feb 7, 2012 6:50 PM EST up reply actions

Completely true,

On all counts. Dick LeBeau couldn’t get blood from the stone that is our shitty LB corps.

However, Juan Castillo still needed to be fired, and using how shitty the LBs are as an excuse damns us to another subpar defensive season.

Samuel did outplay both DRC and Nnamdi, for sure, which IMO says more about them than him. I still think he phoned it in this season, because he was unhappy about the trade rumors.

Still, you strut around like a rooster about your “Big playmaking ability” one season before you make, maybe ONE big-time play all season (thinking the fingertip INT against the Falcons, Week 2)? It’s been real, Asante.

by UnclaimedFright on Feb 7, 2012 8:19 PM EST up reply actions

I agree with you that for a guy who says he makes big plays he certainly didn’t make many this year (only 3 INTs).

He also publicly spoke out against Reid and the FO so I can see why the team wants to move him along with his age and salary.

by MG77 on Feb 7, 2012 9:16 PM EST up reply actions

Asante is one of my fav players but..

he opened his mouth against the F.O. so if he was’nt going for other reasons he will for that one. At least he had the smarts to play good enough this yr. so his stock won’t drop. Unlike Desean who I think goes also.

You kids and your InterWebNet VooDoo......Scary

by hopinpa on Feb 7, 2012 7:13 PM EST up reply actions

Yea I don't find Asante a pompous player as I find him one of the few tough ones we do have

Asante is a heck of a cb, IMO slightly better than Namdi, or perhaps cuz I have yet to see what Namdi CAN do on this team, but hell I would hate to see Asante go. I feel the duo of Asante and Namdi (if both are allowed to play in their natural positions now that Todd is here) is greater than that of Namdi and DRC. Then again I suppose letting Asante go saves us money but if DRC plays well isn’t he going to demand more money anyways?

i’d keep the drc and namdi duo and let asante walk, looking at things in the long run.

Don't get the indifference part

Eagles’ fans are pretty damn spoiled. There are plenty of teams in this league that are run worse, have owners who really don’t give a crap or are meddlesome tyrants, and make infrequent playoff appearances at best.

Yeah, yeah they haven’t won a SB nor are they a ‘golden standard’ of the NFL the last several years but they aren’t a laughingstock either. Just look at the projected value of the franchise.

by MG77 on Feb 7, 2012 4:05 PM EST reply actions

Most of those teams

Have SB wins.

So we’re not the Vikings, I guess there’s that.

by UnclaimedFright on Feb 7, 2012 4:15 PM EST up reply actions

In the past 10 years, 25 teams haven’t won the Super Bowl at least once, and 19 teams haven’t been in the Super Bowl.

The Eagles are still an upper-echelon NFL franchise. One bad year doesn’t suddenly change that.

I reject your reality and substitute my own.

by alcatraz0109 on Feb 7, 2012 4:31 PM EST up reply actions

In that case,

We’re the only upper-echelon NFL franchise to have never won a Super Bowl.

Philly

Is a massive Debbie Downer but the thing that always irked me about the place was that it was really a ‘what have you done for me lately kind of place’ in many aspects of life.

Even if the Eagles’ did win a SB, people in this area would complain loudly and often the following season if they struggled to make the playoffs.

Having lived in several parts of the US and traveled through out most of the US, it isn’t like this either in other parts of the country too. Breeds passion among a fan base like almost no where else but often comes with some real drawbacks too.

Wwaaah, waaaay, waaah. “Andy Reid can’t win playoff games, Lurie is terrible, waaaahhhh…I have ennui.”

Giants made the playoffs, what once between 2007 and 2012?

Yeah, Andy sucks and Lurie is worse than Jerry Jones. This place is an echo chamber of whining and defeatism. What, Perry Fewell is some scary genius? He went 9-7 and Giants fans were demanding his dismissal.

How about this. Maybe Juan will be better next year. Maybe we’ll draft a linebacker and get in the tournament and then who knows what can happen.

But all this whining, I’m kind of over it. I live in a house with 4 women and I can’t fucking take much more of it, so many of you guys sound like goddamn women.

You realize that you, too, sound like a woman. “Oh my GAWD I can’t believe this bitch won’t just SHUT UP!’” — there is no valley girl font, but if there was, your post would be in it.

You don’t get to be the arbiter of how someone should feel in the wake of the most disappointing Eagles season since 2005, and possibly ever.

Good article and nailed most of the concerns

disagreed about asante but other than that it’s pretty much on point. one step towards a solid next year and to strengthen the resolve to win something is the draft. we need to make the RIGHT choices and not go the “let’s get guys in the 7th round and hope they turn out to be great!” krap. i would love for us to get the guy all these mock drafts have us drafting, the most sound choice: LK. after that we can worry bout DE’s and DT’s. I don’t see why we need to get a qb as a backup. unless we’re getting a high ranked qb in the draft, i see no reason to bring in someone who wont do any better than Kafka. bolster our defense and perhaps look for a decent wr in case djax does walk. JC has a year under him, the guys have given into his system and now they have a full offseason with no lockout looming to get to work. it’s a clean slate so let’s do this.
