I Dont Cope, I Justify
Unlike some Eagles fans who cannot and will not root for any other team, especially one in the NFC East, I found peace in justification. There is just too much depression, anger, and frustration attached to coping. I just cant do it.
However, what I had done prior to the Superbowl, just to make it bearable, I had to find a reason to root for one rather than the other. Most often, it comes down to who do I dislike more, or who has wronged me most. With this in mind, I easily picked and rooted for the Giants. The way I see it:
We beat the Giants 7 out of the past 8 times. We humiliated them on not only one occasion but a second time with the part two of Miracle at the Meadowlands. I honestly think they have more of a reason to hate us, than we do them. I have some Giants friends that are actually OK to hang with. (Its the DAMN arrogant Cowboys fans I really don't like.)
The Patriots, on the other hand, have had enough of the limelight in my opinion. Really starting to piss me off like the Yankees. Tom Brady seems to be the Man! Supermodel wife! HUGE mansion! Just about every NFL record! an almost perfect season! and too many super bowls! Furthermore, this is a game of competition. If you cant compete, you deserve to lose! Dont cheat! And if you do, and get caught, you should be forever banned from the sport - NFL, CFL, etc. To deprive a team like the Eagles who have never won the Superbowl(not that I am looking for pity from them) of the success they deserved, is despicable, immoral, and COMPLETELY UNFORGIVABLE! I will never - EVER - root for the Patriots (even if it was against the Cowboys - I don't know, maybe I would just boycott the Superbowl altogether in that case)! Furthermore, the President of the United States should strip the New England team of their PATRIOT name after cheating. (Yes, Im that bitter!)
Ergo, I am completely OK with the Giants winning the Superbowl - in our absence. I take GREAT SATISFACTION in the failures of Bill Belichick, Tom Brady, and the entire Patriot organization.

I don’t like the Patriots either but I hate the Giants more. I hate the Cowboys too but not as much as the Giants. I live in Northwest Jersey so there are a lot of Giants fans here to annoy the shit out of me. I know that we have owned them in recent years but that makes the two rings they have recently won even more frustrating . I’d rather lose 7 of 8 times to them and have the two rings.
Patriots bug me but there aren’t that many of their fans around here so I don’t have to hear about them much. I get the whole cheating thing but I am not sure how much if anything that had to do with the Eagles losing the Super Bowl.
Cowboys are a little different. I don’t like them but as long as Jerry Jones is there I don’t worry about them being consistently good. I got a little worried when he hired Parcells but that effect is wearing off. I hope that Jerry Jones lives forever.
So, I would have rather had the Patriots win. At least once the game ended I wouldn’t really have heard much. With the Giants winning it’s been pretty brutal up here these last couple of days.
Go Eagles!
THIS
Brutal? Downright horrible. I live in Brooklyn, NY. Oh, the agony. Yesterday, I’m going to work and all these Giants fans are headed to their parade. They see my Eagles hat and they begin to ridicule and jeer my team. I have no defense, so I just sit there and take it. You being from Jersey, you can understand my pain.
Crush them, my Birds!!! CRUSH THEM!!!!!!!!!

You have it far worse than I
I live only a few miles away from the PA border so there are quite a few Eagles fans out here, too. I cannot imaging being an Eagles fan living in NYC and dealing with this.
I have DirecTV and they forced the NY local channels upon me. Luckily I have a digital antenna and pick up Philly channels here. I’ve been avoiding the NY channels all week.
Go Eagles!
I live in a small town in NEPA. My biggest gripe is the teams that have too many friggin superbowls … steelers, giants, cowboys, … hell even redskins have more than us!!! That seems to be the argument that they ALL seem to come back to eventually. Frustrating.

See I'm not the only one pissed about the Pats cheating!

I’ve lived in Boston for the past 5 years (I’m from Philly and working in South Philly). You forgot to mention how completely aweful there fanbase is. They were very similar to us 10 years ago, few championships from their four major teams. But once the Redsox hit, Then the Pats went off, then the Celtics landed some stars and hit, and this past year the Bruins. They now think they are “Titletown”.
I was chatting it up on the bus a few days before the Superbowl in South Boston, and the guy says: “We just know how to win around here”.
You arrogant bastards! This is how hatred is born. You deserve years of almosts like we’ve now dealt with.
