Whos fault: Brady or Welker?
I know this is an Eagles website and nobody really wants to talk about the Super Bowl. But i just wanted some feedback from knowledgable football fans. I just watched Skip Bayless rip Tom Brady for throwing the pass behind Welker when from my angle, Brady threw it a little behind him to take him away from Kenny Phillips and Welker definitely was at fault.
Heres the play: http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/2012020500/2011/POST22/giants@patriots#menu=highlights&tab=recap
Heres Skip:

I had to give Skip credit because he knew LeBron was an asshole about 3 years before the average person but more often then not I think he misses the point because he just likes to disagree with people

It's both really
He was wide open and Brady made a bad throw. That said… he got two hands on it. You’re an NFL WR, you’ve got to make that catch.
But it was a bad throw.

I don't think it was a "drop" per se
To me a drop is more when you’re wide open and it hits you in the hands or you turn upfield too soon. Welker had to halt his forward momentum, leap, contort his body and reach out for it. Would have been a hell of a catch if he’d made it.
I think Brady rushed the throw because he saw the window between the three defenders open up and he didn’t expect it to last long.
Granted, that’s a play that you can reasonably expect to be made in the NFL. But I don’t think it’s in the same ballpark with the Asante INT drop from the other Super Bowl.
And speaking of Asante, you all know I hate Welker for the comment he made when Samuel signed here … and I still take no glee in seeing him catch hell for not making what would have been a tremendous catch. Although I do like that he still has zero championships, fewer than AS
Still waiting for the Eagles to Bring it Home for Jerome.
I don't remember it exactly...
…but it was something to the tune of (paraphrasing) “If he wanted to win championships, he would’ve stayed here.” in response to Asante saying he signed with Philly because it gave him a good chance to win a championship.
Why do people always think I'm playing the Race Card???
Is it because I'm black???
Boom
yup Jason you’re dead on
At least one more year of Andy and Juan. If they don't win it all they both better be gone!
No way Eagles draft a LB in the first round 2012.
We will see if Spags was in the right place at the right time in the Gmens SB run. Or was that the fluke year and he really is just mediocre.

I think Brady wanted to save welker from getting murdered by Phillips. Not a good game by Brady, but not a bad throw.on this play.

If That Were The Case
wouldn’t he have led Welker back towards the middle of the field a bit under Phillips. I’d buy this if Brady wasn’t off on multiple throws in the 4th Quarter. Could very well be the case though.

If Brady hit him in stride Phillips would have only seen Welker’s back.

Branch and Hernandez deserve some credit too. Out of the two you named it has to be Brady, but meh. That ending just sucked… surrounded by Giants fans at my house.

how about the defense? they were really unimpressive when it counted
reminded me of eagles 2011..but there were a myriad of gaffes in that game…12 men on field w/ the turnovers….burning a challenge and then letting them walk in with 1 min left , etc…
JoeD AKA The Voice Of Reason
12 men on the field was the Giants, not the Pats.
And the Pats let the Giants score on purpose knowing it was the only way to get the ball back with enough time to do anything about it. Now, the rest of the game the Pats defense was what it was all season: worthless. They really did not have a good defense at all.
Clear eyes, full bologna sandwiches!
Both teams got called for it. The Pats had a fumble recovery in the 1st half overturned by having 12 on the field
I saw something about this late in the day yesterday after I made the comment.
Whoops. Not sure how I missed that play.

There really is no way to be sure
the video doesn’t work for me, but I remember Welker cutting the route in like a narrow post. It’s kind of impossible for us to know what the route should have been. One of them threw/ran to the wrong spot. To me it looked like Brady threw a perfect pass had Welker ran more straight out. There are two other points: Brady should have adapted if Welker really did run the route bad and he could have thrown it softer, and 2, welker should have had it anyway.
True
So much more goes on than what we can see on TV. Do you really think that duo could not be on the same page after all of their history though? I mean if any receiver QB combo knows what the other is thinking I’d have to guess Brady/Welker, they’ve just had so many completions since he got to New England.

That's what I do
It’s not even that he’s unlikeable, it’s that his whole schtick is to say whatever it is he thinks would be unpopular and rile people up. It’s so transparent I’m surprised people still fall for it.

Welker
Has to be, as a former WR (albeit only in Highschool and a short time in College) I know you are drilled with the concept of “no pass will be perfect”, that being said, Welker got both hands on the ball and was trying to turn his body the pass was more than good enough to catch. Considering Brady was under pressure alot of the night we shouldnt expect anything from Brady but getting the ball to the WR (which he did). I do see that Brady sort of lofted the ball to Welker rather than throwing a more firm pass but the ball still got to him in enough space to make the catch without getting hit immediatly. Welker should have made the catch, he is a pro WR and he is trained to catch balls that aren’t perfect. Thats not saying that Brady threw the best ball, but he did his job and got it too Welker. Welker should have just caught the ball and fell on his back instead of going for the more fluid looking Catch turnaround that he was trying to do.

Hmm.. reminds me of the situation when Maclin fell short of the sticks vs. Chicago. Could have been Vick’s fault for a high throw. Could have been Maclin’s for not keeping his balance.
That was definitely Vick's fault...
Ah that game ending pissed me off to no end. Just about raged and broke the remote.

It's obvious whose fault it is
