The Linc - Dont Rule Out Robert Griffin III?

Phil Sheridan: Don't rule out Reid taking long view with Griffin
Don't be too quick to dismiss the significance of the Eagles' meeting with Robert Griffin III.

Will Eagles look to draft LBs Kuechly or Burfict?
Luke Kuchly and Vontaze Burfict are very different. One is a solid, safe player and the other has tons of potential and a questionable attitude. Either way, one of them could fill the Eagles' void at middle LB in the draft.

Burfict from yellow flags to red ones? - CBSSports.com
Over the weekend in Indy, I spoke to a few NFL scouts and assistants about some draft hopefuls. I'm not sure any player here sparked a worse reaction than Vontaze Burfict. Seems the Arizona State linebacker has gone from being plagued by yellow flags to eliciting red ones now.

Iggles Blitz " Blog Archive " Bring Me the Head of Fletcher Cox
Cox is officially now my prime target at pick 15. He pretty much already was, but seeing that level of athleticism just solidifies things.

I wonder if two two’s and Samuel would do it….hmmmmm

SEMPER EAGLES!!

by USMCSLB on Feb 28, 2012 7:50 AM EST via mobile reply actions

If you’re the Browns you probably would want DeSean Jackson instead of Samuel. They probably don’t want both since Jackson would cost $$$ and Samuel’s contract ain’t cheap.

What I see as us having to give up for him

Asante and/ or Jackson, our first, 2013 first, and our (2) seconds. Even then it might not be enough. I think if this move was made it would be made by Howie/ Banner. I think having a talented young QB on your roster would attract alot of coaches if the position opens up next year.

by VRFC8 on Feb 28, 2012 8:23 AM EST up reply actions

So really what you have to ask yourself is a Franchise qb better than

a starting potential all pro LB, probably another starting LB or DT, and a Starting WR. Also the loss of Jackson.

by VRFC8 on Feb 28, 2012 8:25 AM EST up reply actions

Oh forgot 2013 1st rd pick

Call it a starting potential all pro Dlineman or LB

by VRFC8 on Feb 28, 2012 8:26 AM EST up reply actions

You make it seem as if we’ll actually hit those picks that we’re giving up. That’s one of the reasons I’m kinda on teh RGIII train, our past picks in drafts have been suspect.

Very true

I forgot to add this infront of franchise QB though……the word potential. So from a statistical stand point more picks gives us a great chance of hitting, however I guess it depends on what the talent evaluators see Griffin as. If he is a sure fire no miss we love this guy, then yes you do it. If not I say you keep the picks.

by VRFC8 on Feb 28, 2012 8:36 AM EST up reply actions

this is how I feel

I’d rather take a swing and get ourselves a chance to be set at the most important position with a top prospect for the next decade than get a bunch of picks that odds are we’ll get maybe one or two contributers

by STZ513 on Feb 28, 2012 1:25 PM EST up reply actions

My thoughts exactly.

I’m more willing to trust their ability to draft QB’s and skill positions on offense. Even if they take Kuechly I’m worried about the potential of keeping those other picks just to waste them.

by J.P.Melle on Feb 28, 2012 2:57 PM EST up reply actions

yes it is

unless you forgot the pre-Mcnabb years

by EagleEyes on Feb 28, 2012 11:28 AM EST up reply actions

Eskin reported that the Redskins would offer their 1st,2nd,3rd this year and 1st this year for him. F that, they can have him.

by BrandonB on Feb 28, 2012 10:48 AM EST up reply actions

And with his stock rising, someone’s probably going to be willing to give up more than that.

by J.P.Melle on Feb 28, 2012 2:59 PM EST up reply actions

Okay, I understand it’s possible, but does anyone here really believe that Reid would trade up to get RGIII when we have several other issues on his job is on the line? I mean I know this organization pulls surprises out of nowhere and I know the FA hasn’t happened and I know Mike Vick is getting older and I know that RGIII is a very special player…but…c’mon.

There's no way it happens at #2

If RG3 somehow falls several spots (as unlikely as that would seems), then maybe. Otherwise there’s no chance of it happening.

by davidbt11 on Feb 28, 2012 8:54 AM EST up reply actions

He won’t fall, Rams know how much teams want him and will get as much as they can for the pick.

by J.P.Melle on Feb 28, 2012 3:00 PM EST up reply actions

I agree

I’m just saying that that’s the only scenario where I could see us taking him

by davidbt11 on Feb 28, 2012 3:07 PM EST up reply actions

I see a small chance if the Rams value Jackson & Samuel highly AND if we can find a way to make sure they get Blackmun as well. I don’t think the Eagles would value Griffin that highly though, but apparently he aced his interviews. Personally I don’t think we’re superbowl bound with this team, so I’m for it depending a little bit on the asking price.

by J.P.Melle on Feb 28, 2012 3:16 PM EST up reply actions

GriffinIII

I THINK GriffinIII would be a great addition. I think Carolina has the real deal at QB in Cam. It’s something bout that Young Man looks like he has the “Eye of the Tiger” or his “Game Face” on (Bobby Knight I said it “GF” lol).

by pragit on Feb 28, 2012 8:13 AM EST via Android app reply actions

Reports coming that

for the Redskins, the price would be 2012 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 2013 1st. For Cleveland, it would be 2012 1st, 1st, 2nd plus a few other picks.

You guys would probably have to give up a ton. At least 2 1sts and 2 2nds

Not only that the Rams can trade with the Redskins or Browns and still stay in the top 10, and most likely have a better 2013 first round pick. Even if we gave up Jackson or Samuel I think that we would also need to give away more picks.

Go Eagles!

by MRPH on Feb 28, 2012 9:22 AM EST up reply actions

That's true. Now John Clayton saying that the price has risen so high that only

Washington and Cleveland have ammo. This will be Ricky Wiliams-esque

I will not believe anything Skelator has to say

That guy hasnt broken a story or really been right on anything for awhile…

by VRFC8 on Feb 28, 2012 9:59 AM EST up reply actions

But they don’t have a Jackson or an Asante to throw in there. Still though, I think I agree, I can see a huge draft-stock-bubble growing.

by J.P.Melle on Feb 28, 2012 3:03 PM EST up reply actions

The Rams want Blackmon. That’s the best clue that the Eagles and the Redskins have to give up everything for RGIII, cause Blackmon ain’t lasting till the Redskin’s pick…at the very least.

So realistically we’d have to trade up for a higher first round pick which we’d then have to package to the Rams with a bunch of other picks.

by J.P.Melle on Feb 28, 2012 3:04 PM EST up reply actions

I smell

a smokescreen… I’m not looking into this more than Reid wanted to meet with him as a “lets get in his head” incase Washington moves up for him or Reid just wanted to dream for a day.

A lot of things make sense now.

by Sparki on Feb 28, 2012 9:15 AM EST reply actions

It's very possible

That the Eagles could be doing this in part to drive up the price for Washington/take them out of the race for RG3. In which case, I’m all for it.

by Dave King on Feb 28, 2012 9:38 AM EST up reply actions

Why would Reid want to draft a future franchise QB when he realistically won’t be here for more than 2/3 years max. We have Mike Vick and 2 backups that I think are above average.

by ieatcrayons on Feb 28, 2012 10:34 AM EST reply actions

Because

Maybe it isnt AR’s call….it is Howie’s!!! People dont want to acknowledge this but MAYBE AR DOESNT HAVE ULTIMATE SAY!!!! Maybe he lost some of it over the past few seasons…

by VRFC8 on Feb 28, 2012 10:57 AM EST up reply actions

Lol, afer 10+ years, people still don’t know how the power is divided within the Eagles FO. It’s so shady.

I’m sure that’s true to an extent I just think this team is built to win and has more pressing needs. Howie knows what needs to be done for the future but RG3 is just too much…

by ieatcrayons on Feb 28, 2012 4:59 PM EST up reply actions

You think both or backups are above average?

What in their past has given you this crazy idea? Kafka is unproven and Edwards has had some success, but calling him above average is a bit of a leap.

by slandog on Feb 28, 2012 12:23 PM EST up reply actions

Call me crazy but I like Kafka a lot. Really any qb is going to play solid with Andy.

by ieatcrayons on Feb 28, 2012 5:00 PM EST up reply actions

Having a young QB to develop helps Andy’s case. He has a track record of successfully developing young QBs, particularly athletic ones. If we get Griffin, he can argue that there’s not a better coach out there at developing Griffin’s kind of talent and that Griffin has the accuracy to take his offense to heights that Donovan’s McNacuracy and Vicks defense reading limitations prevented them from reaching. Andy would be drooling at the thought if they had a realistic chance at Griffin.

by J.P.Melle on Feb 28, 2012 3:09 PM EST up reply actions

Yea that is true but I’m starting to think Andy doesn’t really wanna be here for another 5+ years.

by ieatcrayons on Feb 28, 2012 4:57 PM EST up reply actions

Really?

What makes you say that? I think he’s stubborn enough to want to be here until he wins a superbowl, if not for the rest of his career.

by J.P.Melle on Feb 28, 2012 7:29 PM EST up reply actions

It’s just a tough market to coach in with the media and fans. Also I doubt Lurie is going to keep him for much longer.

by ieatcrayons on Feb 29, 2012 10:25 AM EST up reply actions

There is no way we can afford RGIII even if Reid wanted him badly.

We would have to give up our entire draft plus Jackson/Samuel plus picks next year (probably our 1st). It’s not happening.

Clear eyes, full bologna sandwiches!

by NOLACuse on Feb 28, 2012 11:34 AM EST reply actions

Nothing’s going to happen. There’s no reason for it.

Reid values his draft picks and may not remain in Philly beyond this year, and Vick is one year removed from signing a $100M contract.

I reject your reality and substitute my own.

by alcatraz0109 on Feb 28, 2012 12:20 PM EST reply actions

Reid values his draft picks

We’ve traded up and down the boards before. I mean maybe not to the #2 pick, but still, if Reid likes someone, he’s gonna get them.

My first thought when I saw the picture...

That’s a QUARTERBACK???

I’d be proud to have a kid with that frame at safety!

Why do people always think I'm playing the Race Card???
Is it because I'm black???

by Qwest on Feb 28, 2012 1:02 PM EST reply actions

I know man that is just incredible genetics.. Thanks a lot dad for this weak core and skinny frame. I cant wait to see him throw at his pro day tho.

by ieatcrayons on Feb 28, 2012 5:03 PM EST up reply actions

My first thought...

was amazement that this much hype surrounded a one legged quarterback.

by BPB on Feb 28, 2012 10:41 PM EST up reply actions

this entire thread is full of stupid.

Stop. Just stop. No player. NO player. is worth what will be given up for RGIII. Championships are won by well run organizations with level heads who don’t make brash decisions. I would rather let Mike Kafka take over and keep the picks, Asante, and Desean than trade even close to what is being suggested here and if you are prepared to give up a draft in some desperation move for a new shiny toy, I really am glad you have no say in the Philadelphia Eagles organization. Let’s please smarten up a bit in here.

by RealSantaClaude on Feb 28, 2012 2:18 PM EST reply actions

If we can acquire RG3 for a REASONABLE price, I’m all for it. But several of the commenters on here would sooner trade our entire defense and our next 5 drafts to get this guy. Griffin is going to be a terrific quarterback, but the cost to get him is stupid high. Forget it.
