howardeskin

If the Redskins give up there first 3 picks this year & next year's #1 all I have to say is lolskins

I hope they don’t get rg3

If they're willing to mortgage the future like that then I think it's ok.

How good is a QB without an offensive line and WR’s to throw to?

Defensive player of the year for 2011 is...

That’s what free agency is for

by con-vick on Feb 26, 2012 1:15 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

this would literally cripple them as a franchise if this doesnt work

thats two number ones, I won’t even trade that for Brady plus at least a 2nd and 3rd. Griffin had one great year and has never thrown a timed route in this life. They have tons of holes and dont have a WR (Baylor had good ones), a great offensive line (Baylor had a good one), or all that great of a defense (Baylor was ok). I would be completely cool with this. There isn’t enough in FA that could solve their issues.

Even if it does work

it may well damage the franchise – see Michael Vick in Atlanta – Vick may have made the Falcons a playoff team, but they were seriously flawed

by ZacharyD on Feb 27, 2012 10:27 AM EST up reply actions

Um just to let you know

Baylor didn’t have good receivers they had one wright (That’s one NFL caliber WR vs being on a pro team with multiple) Baylor also didn’t have a good OL they gave up constant pressure and he was sacked an extreme amount of times while still being great at decision making and not turning the ball over, finally Baylor’s defense was the worst of any bowl team.

His situation in Washington would be much better.

All I was saying

Is they can improve their team in free agency, I know they have a history of missing on free agents, but I think a player like Rg3 can help lift a franchise like cam did last year, give up the picks and then add a Vincent Jackson and a Carl nicks in free agency

but here's the thing, everyone loves him

but he’s not a sure thing. This draft’s QBs are starting to annoy me frankly. I love both but I don’t see either making a Pro Bowl as quickly as Cam Newton or Matt Ryan. They have less likely bust rates then Cam and Matt but I don’t really know their ceiling or if its that large.

Exactly what I thought

when I read this. I hope they’re that dumb. RGIII will have “David Carr” syndrome and be ruined by the end of his rookie year.

Eagles go 8-8 or 9-7 in 2012/2013 season. 2/17/12

No way Eagles draft a LB in the first round 2012.

We will see if Spags was in the right place at the right time in the Gmens SB run. Or was that the fluke year and he really is just mediocre.

no

because I’d have taken different players at the spots.

The move up for Graham in 2011 foolish. I’d have stayed where I was and drafted Jared Odrick and then stop still in R2 and taken Sean Lee

In 2011, I think Watkins would have been where we were drafting in R2. I’d have taken Johnathon Baldwin in R1 providing that big Red Zone target and drafted Quinton Carver in R3.

But thats me

this almost makes sense if you don’t think there are going to be any good QB’s in the next draft. Obviously getting Manning makes you much better in the short run, but by the team you get enough talent on the team to win it will be too late for him. At least this way RG3 will have his best years in Washington.

It's never too much to pay for a Franchise QB, period

If the land RG3 (who just reportedly ran a 4.38) they will have gotten the better end of the deal, if you can get what you think is an Elite QB to lead your team for a Decade 4 picks doesn’t mean anything specially if you were going to draft a (B.Graham or Watkins) with those said picks. RG3 is the best Dual threat QB I think I have ever seen. Hope he does well in the NFL.

So the Skins have nothing now?

And who says just because you have picks in every round means you’re going to get a good player? There are about 10-15 good to great players at every postion in the NFL with the rest being average to below average, and that many players get picked in every draft for every postion so chances are you are not going to get an elite player, which means it doesnt matter where you pick or how you get the players its all still a crap shoot. You can go get players other than the draft, you can even trade future picks so getting players is never a problem, its getting the players you WANT thats hard and if RG3 is the QB they want then they should go get him, simple as that. The most important position is QB, you can have a team full of all pro’s but unless you have a capable QB then your team will not do well. The Redskins led this divison for part of the year so to say that they have “Nothing” is a little untrue, specially when we only finished with 8 wins. Draft picks mean nothing before a players name is sat next to them, nothing, they are like Pawns in chess useless unless one turns into a Queen or something else.

remember Atlanta lost the Michael Vick trade badly

I disagree, they had more playoff success than the chargers whom they made the trade with and Mike vick was at one point almost unstoppable, they needed WR’s for mike. Just because you have picks doesn’t mean you are going to get players. There are teams every year that have terrible draft classes.

The Chargers made the AFC Championship game

at least once

Also keep in mind that the primary player who the Chargers received, LaDanian Tomlison was also pretty much unstoppable at one point.

Also LT is a sure Hall of Famer – Michael Vick could be if he leads the Eagles to a Super Bowl or two in the next couple of years, but probably isn’t.

Steep price but desperate need

But it makes a hell a lot more sense than the Manning talks about the Skins trying to acquire. Skins desperately need a starting QB they can build around for the next 3-4 years at least. Only 2 in the draft this year fit that bill – Luck and RGIII. Problem is that with the early combine results the price tag on RGIII went up a bit.

Here is the a list of Skins’ QB starts the past 2 decades since they last won a SB in ’91:

2011: Grossman (13 GS, 5-8)
2010: McNabb (13 GS, 5-8)
2009: Campbell (16 GS, 4-12)
2008: Campbell (16 GS, 8-8)
2007: Campbell (13 GS, 6-7)
2006: Brunell (9 GS, 3-6)
2005: Brunell (15 GS, 9-6)
2004: Brunell (9 GS, 3-6)
2003: Ramsey (11 GS, 4-7)
2002: Matthews (7 GS, 3-4)
2001: Banks (14 GS, 8-6)
2000: B. Johnson (11 GS, 7-4)
1999: B. Johnson (16 GS, 10-6)
1998: T. Green (14 GS, 6-8)
1997: Frerotte (13 GS, 6-6-1)
1996: Frerotte (15 GS, 9-6)
1995: Frerotte (11 GS, 3-8)
1994: Shuler (8 GS, 1-7)
1993: Rypien (10 GS, 3-7)
1992: Rypien (16 GS, 9-7)
1991: Rypien (16 GS, 14-2)
1990: Rypien (10 GS, 7-3)

Closest thing they had to a franchise QB was Rypien and he had really just that magical season in ‘91 where the Skins were pretty much unstoppable with the Posse (G. Clark, Monk, and R. Sanders) and one of the best o-lines ever which featured a few of the Hogs’ holdovers including Bostic & Jacoby.

Since then they have had 4 guys who were supposed to be ‘franchise’ QBs washout with varying degrees of success (Shuler, Frerotte, Ramsey, Campbell) and a bunch of veteran stop-gaps in between. Only 2 of those veterans really came them decent production (Brunell, Johnson) and only for a single year each. Brunell was running on fumes in his time in DC with his legs pretty much shot.

If they can get a legit QB to build around for the next several years, they need to serious consider it even if the price tag is large. They have floundered mightily the last 20+ years because their QB play have generally raised from mediocre to piss-poor.

by MG77 on Feb 26, 2012 1:28 PM EST reply actions

Eagles looked very similar too to this chart between the Cunningham years and McNabb/Vick years. Detmer/Peete/Hoying is a reason why this team wasn’t ever a serious contender in the 90s and Eagles’ fans knew it.

They should

Even is the price seems crazy… Their team is quite OK, if you forget the QB. With RG3, they’re going to be really strong, and the division is going to be crazy. I hope the Browns get him…

Snyder

Is just a massive a$$hole. Not even debatable. It is utterly amazing the amount of times he has been criticized by former Redskins’ greats, DC and national media, and a litany of others. Hell even the WSJ and other outlets have pretty much ripped him relentlessly the last few years. Snyder seems to have backed off a little bit since ’09 after he fired Cerrato and finally installed a legit general GM in Allen. Also seems to have taken a lower press profile which is a smarter thing too. In a town as partisan as DC, it is always amazing how much unity you can find in hatred of Snyder.

Why I am glad Lurie is the Eagles’ owner. Generally seems like a decent guy who stays out of the way letting the football people run the show and spending bucks. What a owner should do.

It’s not that complicated anyway. Either they get Manning or Flynn March 13, or they get in a bidding war with Cleveland and Miami (if they don’t get Manning/Flynn) for a shot at RGIII.

Still waiting for the Eagles to Bring it Home for Jerome.

Why not?

QB is the most important position in football. If they have the ability to get a franchise QB, they should go all out and get him. You’re talking about sacrificing 1.5 drafts, but you’ll have a franchise QB for the next 10 years. I would do it.

let them, who cares

we need to be worried about improving on this team aka completely revamping the lb corps and secondary…getting the wr position figured out… adding depth to all positions

I’m told by people within Redskins they are prepared to offer picks 1,2 and 3 this year, at least a 1 next year to move up to get RG3 at 2

i don't know if that's racist or pidgeon holing

Mike Vick: "Why would they kick to Desean?"

I don’t see it as racist but then again everyone over reacts to everything these days. It was more of a joke at the coincidence that our QBs always seem to be black. I could care less as long as they can play.

it was a reference to a quote from the League

Shows how long you have been a fan. Cunningham, Mcnabb, Vick… ya thats forever specially since the list of white QB’s probably is 10x that size.

by EagleEyes on Feb 26, 2012 6:33 PM EST up reply actions

Im talking about the last 14 years. I feel it was pretty obvious I wasn’t talking about all time because everyone knows there has been way more white QBs. Stop being an asshole and trying to say you’re a better fan than me. I bet the Eagles have the most starts by black quarterbacks in the entire NFL history.

That's probably true

Us or the Raiders, and they haven’t had nearly the stability with their guys.

Philly has always loved the guys too. Peete wasn’t real popular, and Cunningham started to lose the fan base at the end, but otherwise those guys have been universally embraced and accepted.

Would be great to win a title with Vick.

How terribly assholish of me???… When did I ever put how good you or I are as a fan in question? I don’t know (nor care) how good or bad of a fan you are but you sure don’t seem to be a good reader… So ill be an asshole for that.

by EagleEyes on Feb 27, 2012 12:08 AM EST up reply actions

And last 14 yrs

Only spans two QB’s (Vick, McNabb) so that shouldn’t “Always seem” to be black… Plus Kolb spent time as our starter as did Jeff Garcia, but ya “Always Black”.

I bet the Eagles have the most starts by black quarterbacks in the entire NFL history.
Most starts by the SAME black QB probably, Most starts of Black QB’s entirely im not so sure about, there have been alot of Black qb’s that played in the NFL that weren’t as good as the Eagles players so other teams could of had two or three black qb’s in a span of 5-10 years when we only had Mcnabb or Cunningham for long streches..

Yeah RG3 is a likable guy, i’ll have a hard time hating on him twice a year if he goes to the Skins

If you think RG3 is the type of franchise QB that can take you to the Super Bowl, than you sell the farm and don’t think twice….Do you think the Giants regret trading the 2004 3rd overall pick, Phillip Rivers, 2004 3rd rounder, and 2005 1st & 5th rounders all for Eli Manning? I think not.

Eh- I don’t think its that bad. Despite the bad record, I don’t think the Skins are really all that far from contention. They were hit pretty hard by injuries last season.

Surprised to see so many people thinking that would be dumb for the Skins. Bottom line is that if you don’t have a QB, it doesn’t matter who you draft with those other picks. If you think RG3 is one of those rare talents that comes around once in a long while (and maybe they do), you go get him.

Gotta give up something to get something. As an Eagles fan, I’d be more than happy to watch the Skins continue to slog along with a terrible QB for the next decade. RG3 scares me. He really does. I think he could be worth the cost.

by JimmyK on Feb 26, 2012 8:01 PM EST via mobile reply actions

I think he's a special talent

but not worth two 1’s, a 2 and a 3 and would probably have to add a player or two as well. I like RG3 and he has scary potential so I wouldnt want him to go to the Skins, but if they give up all that stuff, I think it could be costly over the next 3-4 years.

Only if he sucks. If he becomes a Top 5 QB in the NFL, it’s worth whatever you have to give up.

by JimmyK on Feb 27, 2012 6:06 AM EST up reply actions

But even if he becomes a 6 to 10 QB

the LOLskins are likely to lose on that trade.

And if he is merely a good/medicore NFL starter – 10-15 range, its a major loss

And if below average to bad 16-25 range, its a disaster

If he’s a bust 26-32 range, its a Daniel Snyder LOLskin level disaster.

RG3 better stick with the law school plans – he can be the next Heath Shuler.

by ZacharyD on Feb 27, 2012 10:35 AM EST up reply actions

I agree with this line of thinking

Once you have a QB, especially one that dynamic, everything else falls in place.

And Shanahan has done enough work to that roster that really QB is the only hole that needs that major, major investment. They could use WR and OL and secondary players, but they’re not so empty there that they can’t compete. Right now, at QB, they are.

I really like him. Somebody will go Ricky Williams for this guy, and they’ll get panned for it. But I think he might just turn out to be worth it.

Agree

If you think that you can get your franchise QB then I think that it is worth taking the risk. If I were them and I drafted RG3 then my next area of focus would be OL. Protect my investment. Worry about upgrading who he is throwing to later.

Go Eagles!

They aren't giving up that much!!

It’s being misunderstood – they are willing to offer any of the teams with top 3 picks two #1 picks (this yr and next). They aren’t giving up this yrs #2 or 3.

I’d trade both next yrs #1 and one of our #2s. We would be set for years with RGIII!

by PhillyPhan84 on Feb 26, 2012 11:47 PM EST reply actions

If you don't have a top-notch QB, you aren't going to win a Super Bowl

Redskins are rolling the dice, as they often do. Keep this in mind, too (having spent many years around DC): games sell out, but it doesn’t mean people actually fill the seats. Many DC businesses buy ticket blocks and give them out to clients and/or employees for perks (might even be tax deductible expense, I’m not sure). But if people are blah about the team, nobody will use even free tickets. Luxury boxes don’t get filled up, people find better things to do. RG3 is a marketing tool for Snyder, if the Redskins land him.
