Kuechly isn't the answer!
This is my first post so don't thrash me to hard fellow philly fans. xD
No offense to all the Kuechly fan boys out there but he isn't the answer at MLB. To think that thrusting another rookie into the lead role on defense another year in a row is a good idea is by far stupid. Granted Matthews probably isn't as talented as Kuechly, that still doesn't justify putting him in the same position we put Matthews in this year. For a team that has a lot of expectations this year putting a rookie in charge of the defense is just asking trouble. I'm a firm believer that we can fill the need at LB during free agency or possibly through a trade of some sort. We need a proven vet in the middle of our defense not a rookie.
I'd like to make a few other points if gentlemen don't mind....
DON"T RE-SIGN DESEAN JACKSON!!! Desean handle his contract situation like a child. Putting yourself above the team and most of all giving up on the team is absolutely unacceptable. Players like these are just cancers to the locker room, and we all know to well of that unfortunately, he showed his true colors this season and we don't need that kinda of person on our team luckily FA has some talented receivers this year and hopefully we go that route to help replace Djax. He may be one the most electrifying player in the NFL but he isn't worth the money he's asking.
Last one and I'll shut up...
When you mention the best HC in Philly history why the F is Buddy Ryan name brought up? He did absolutely nothing to bring any form of playoff success to the city of Philadelphia but is still regarded as one of the best HC in our History. I don't understand why he's loved so much and Reid hated so much. Reid is by far the best coach in Philadelphia History and to so any disrespect to the man should be punishable by law in philly. This man brought success to the Eagles when before we were the laughing stock of the NFC East. He turned this team into a playoff contender year in and year and he isn't shown the respect he deserves. But hey what's that saying "You don't know what you got until it's gone"? Sad to say but when big reds gone, we're going to know that quote all to well.

Agree
I’m not sold on Kuechly being our future MLB. Maybe a strong side LB but not a MLB at all. However we may have to end up drafting a MLB because the attractive ones may never hit FA. I would prefer HIGHTOWER from Alabama over Kuechly anyday.
Also agree with you about Desean. I would franchise him and attempt to trade him for a second and a 5th on the first day of free agency. If that doesn’t work, remove the tag and go after Vincent Jackson. He’s worth the money that Desean think’s he’s worth and more proven.
Desean handle his contract situation like a child. Putting yourself above the team and most of all giving up on the team is absolutely unacceptable.
What because he didn’t show up to camp right away, made statements about the contract bothering him and said he wanted to get paid? Alot of players that are under paid (and have been for awhile) do these exact same things, the FO is going to do whats best for the team and players are going to do whats best for them and their family in situations like these. The reason this one feels different is the expectations we had for this season, but this dispute played out like many other contract situations around the league, which is why the FO has done nothing but shown support for Jackson. He also lead our team in receiving yards this year and every other year he’s been here.
yea it’s ridiculous how much hate Desean gets. Most teams would love to have a receiver who puts up 900+ yards in a “terrible” season. Fans who say he quit on the team ignore plays where he’s chased down defenders that intercepted passes or helped block for McCoy. He had some killer drops, but so did Maclin, Avant and Celek too… seemingly every fucking starter on the team had multiple blunders (drops, penalties, ints, missed FG’s, fumbles, missed tackles, falling down before the yellow line, etc) that killed us at key times. Everyone should be cut then. Fans who say Desean “doesn’t go over the middle” ignore the fact that he does…. he didn’t have many bombs this season, so where the hell did all those 900+ yards come from?
look, I like Desean as much as the next guy, but he is not worth the money he is asking for.
He is not a redzone threat; he DOES have alligator arms across the middle (understandably so); he has WAY more drops than Maclin or Avant; he causes more penalties and negates big plays and points than most WR’s in the NFL and because of stupid crap like taunting the Giants coordinator; he DIDNT put his all into this season – regardless of being underpaid, he is under contract to perform for X amount of dollars that HE signed – if he starts under performing should we ask him for a discount?!?!
Dont get me wrong he has a few upsides too … he is FREAKY fast; he is elusive; he plays special teams as well (which I dont like – risk of injury is too high); he chases defenders who intercepted passes down and makes plays; he is a good blocker for McCoy; he is a great decoy because of his speed.
If he agrees to a lesser amount than “Fitzgerald money” – then great, otherwise deal him.

How can someone pay so much attention to one year but not the other 3?.
he has WAY more drops than Maclin or Avant
Also alot more yards to be fair.
he causes more penalties and negates big plays and points than most WR’s in the NFL and because of stupid crap like taunting the Giants coordinator
Name one other time where a big play was negated because of him taunting? Im willing to be a large majority of his celebrating penalties came AFTER he scored a td, ill take that.
he DIDNT put his all into this season
But he still was our best target to through to or at least our most productive.
regardless of being underpaid, he is under contract to perform for X amount of dollars that HE signed – if he starts under performing should we ask him for a discount?!?!
Again he signed that contract then began to out perform it from day one as a ROOKIE, then again in year 2, and 3. So no we could not have asked for a discount for the 4th year when he was still out performing any other WR in Eagle colors an the best WR the Eagles have had since T.O.. There is no denying that he is our best WR hands down, numbers wise or the eye test.
Well, lets take a look at last year ... and yes, last year was much worse for Djax than prior years.
DeSean had 961 Rec. yrds – 22nd in the NFL (hardly a reason to sign him to “Fitz money”… Fitz had 1,411! Or lets compare it to the 811yrds that TE Brent Celek had. Yes, he led the team in yrds receiving, but that obviously was not a feat in itself.
Desean had 9 dropped “catchable passes” whereas Fitz had 3 … Avant had only 3 too BTW. Plus 2 of Desean’s drops were TD’s against the Patriots.
Desean had 4 TD’s all season … Celek had 5, Maclin had 5, and Fitz had 8, Colston had 8, Vincent Jackson had 9!
Name one other time where a big play was negated because of him taunting?
If you look, I said … ‘like taunting.’ He has had plenty of penalties that are uncalled for after plays etc, has made stupid mistakes like letting go of the ball before getting into the endzone (almost did that one twice if you recall!)
But he still was our best target to through to or at least our most productive.
but no where near our most reliable … not Mr. Clutch, not Mr. Dependable … and, again, certainly not to warrant “FITZ MONEY.”
So no we could not have asked for a discount for the 4th year
It was a rhetorical question – without need of an answer. HE IS UNDER CONTRACT TO PLAY HIS POSITION FOR A SPECIFIED AMOUNT OF MONEY. THAT IS HIS JOB. The REASON you outperform your contract is in HOPES of renegotiating a new one early or getting a better one elsewhere. To haphazardly go through the motions because he is unsatisfied with his financial compensation is counterproductive to his goals of a new contract, to the teams goals of winning games and a championship; not to mention spues immaturity and selfishness in a locker room in need of leadership.
He may have had the most receiving yards this season, he is FAR from the best WR on this team, and is not the basket(case) I want to put all my eggs in.
Furthermore, dont get me wrong, I am actually a supporter of DeSean Jackson … just not at “Fitz Money” like he is asking for.

who said he is only taking Fitz money?
-That is what he said he would “like” to get paid from the Eagles (if he even said that) but not what he will “take” an eventually recieve from the Eagles, they will meet somewhere in between.
-9 passes is too much there isn’t a counter argument for that situation.
-Too say leading our team last year isn’t a “feat in itself” is truly asinine and contradictory as shit, how can you harp so hard on what a “down” year he had last year, how he quit on the team, not showing up when we needed him the most, but not pay any mind that he was still gained the most yards out of all the guys who you probably would say had better seasons (Maclin, Celek, Avant).
-Almost dropped the ball again, really, almost?… Come on man that is just sad. Merrill Reese said it the best “I DON’T CARE IF HE JUMPS, DIVES, HE’S RUNNING AROUND… AN HE IS IN THE ENDZONE AND THERE IS NO FLAGS AAND THE EAGLES WIN THE EAGLES WIN”
-Who would you say was our most “Dependable” threat then?
-
It was a rhetorical question – without need of an answer.
As the Rhetorical statement I made wasn’t in need of a response.
- you can bang on your keyboard as hard as you would like it still doesn’t change the fact that:
(using your style of writing) PLAYERS GET CUT EVERY YEAR BEFORE THE COMPLETION OF THEIR SAID CONTRACTS SO IT REALLY DOESN’T MATTER WHAT YOUR CONTRACT STATES AFTER THAT YEAR YOU SIGN BECAUSE YOU COULD BE GONE THE FOLLOWING YEAR. HAVE YOU NEVER HEARD OF PLAYERS GETTING CONTRACT EXTENTIONS (OR REDUCTIONS)BEFORE THEIR PRIOR DEAL IS UP? Happens rather often actually so your point doesn’t hold much weight in todays NFL (Not For Long) League.
-I know you like him on some level you alomost have too if you have been watching the Eagles since he was drafted or before he was drafted. I think we are placing expectations on him that should be placed more on Jeremy Maclin, I think Maclin should do more of the over the middle, down the seam type plays oppose to running simialar routes as Desean. This is in no way slighting Maclin rather saying he’s better suited for these type of routes the guy is as chippy and tough as they come, let him pick on Safteys and LB’s more instead of Avant all the time. Plus, Maclin is the first round pick, he’s getting paid like one now so he needs to do more as well as Jackson, or be more consistent as well as Jackson. We are not sure how many of these FA WR’s are going to hit the market anyway, and I would rather keep our guys we have first then add to them instead of trying to rebuild. If we sign Plax an draft another 6’3+ Wr by the 5th round we should be good.
- To your first point, I understand the concept of negotiation. However, I dont think DeSean does. Last season there were 2 specific times when Drew was in town to discuss Desean’s contract, maybe more. And no deal was done. There was rumors (not that I put a lot of weight in rumors, but… ) that he was offered $8Mil per year for 5-6 yrs and he turned it down. Thats why I said what I did and stand by it. I feel its a fair offer.
- Ascinine … contradictory … He was 22nd in the NFL in receiving yards. As our “#1” WR, to be ranked 22nd, is by definition NOT GOOD. Not even in the top half. In 2010 he was ranked 6th in yards receiving and in 2009 4th.
As far as not showing up when we needed him, he ran routes without even looking for the ball, showed up late for meetings causing him to be suspended for a game, etc … yeah, poor attitude, poor play, numbers dont lie.
- Most dependable threat : EASY: LeSean McCoy – hands down.
- Im not BANGING MY COMPUTER, just putting emphasis on. SORRY. lol.
- I am very familiar with how NFL contracts are written and structured. And it would have been nice to extend the contract 2yrs ago for him. The give and take for that scenario is that the early extension is generally given at a discount for the security of locking him up. He, again, was not willing to give – just take. The FO is too stingy (to a fault sometimes) to sign him to more money early if it doesnt benefit them to do so.
- I do like him, have his jersey in both black and green.
- Maclin is doing well, cant say great, but has been reliable. He and Avant have to be the most sure handed people our offense has seen in a LONG time! Avant (being the slot WR) and Celek (large body TE) are the one that are really more suited for picking on safeties and LBs, and they do a good job at it. Desean and Jeremy are on the outside and will cross the middle on occasion but their skill set is better used on the outside in streaks, curls, posts, even slants.
- I would rather keep our guys, scratch that … get rid of Cooper and maybe Smith if he doesnt come back 100% in training camp this year. But, Jack, Mac, Avant, and Celek are a great lineup.

Well
I think Luke Kuechly is an excellent prospect whose only weakness is being slightly slow a foot.
However I think our LB Corps would be much better if the DT situation was better. We missed Patterson and Laws didn’t step up. If MICHAEL BROOKER (6ft6, 306lbs) falls to No15 we take him.
However I am happy to take LBs and start them early. Whilst there are a number of Free Agents, most of the best will be tagged leaving us with grey hairs like E J Henderson and London Fletcher with little left in the tank. I would double dip at LB on Day2 and take RONNELL SMITH (6ft2, 244lbs) at SAM and AUDIE COLE (6ft4, 248lbs) at MLB at R2a and R3, leaving DB depth will the possibility of Amante Samule leaving to be handled with R2b. Both could start with Rolle at WLB
A defensive draft yes, but defenses win championships. We can add so Offensive depth on Day3.
I would look to maybe do a sign and trade deal with DeSean, tagging him and arranging a deal to move him to a team of his choice if he genuinely does not want to stay. The 49ers might be willing to offer up something in the 2013 draft.
I would target Marques Colston as a key FA acquisition.
Meh
Jenkins and Landri were both playing great last year. I won’t be upset if they’re our top 2 this year again…
If they re-sign Landri and Dixon ... along with Patterson (assuming he makes a healthy return) ... we will be set at DT.

We don't know whether or not Kuechly will be available at #15
He can start immediately into the rotation with Chaney and Mathew to help him during training camp. He didn’t accumulate all those record-breaking numbers for nothing from his freshman to junior years, that most seniors couldn’t. He has all the tools necessary to move into the next level as the starting rotation. Granted he is not a pound and grind kind of guy, he eyes in as a tackling machine, regardless of what levels he’s playing on.
Let’s get Jackson’s situation leveled out, we can’t let him walk.
During practices, who in our own secondary can cover him, considering our secondary is far from being one of the best in the league, against speedy WRs. Let’s keep in mind, the Cowboys and the Giants, would anyone care to elaborate what would happen if Jackson falls into either of their hands, not to mention our secondary has to account for him in the race to win NFC EAST CHAMPIONSHIP. I’m sure non of us wants this horror to become an reality. Believe me, if anyone thinks Jackson isn’t worth it, why do defenses have to account for him instead minding the rest of the field? He’s definitely not an easy guy to keep covering all day long, Jackson hardly ever runs out of breath, and definitely weakened secondaries to a pulp. Major part is he makes defenses account for every play we make and get the chain moving. For all the positives and negatives, vital achievements is not looked as a positional value. He is not worth the money, yet he is worth it, no matter where he ends up. No coach would be stupid enough to think otherwise. Negotiate is eminent or lose a weapon in it’s own right.
Congrats on ur first post, it was well thought out, kudos!

That guy won a trophy with a chunk of granite on top of it?
Fucking legendary.
Also if the salary cap allows it, FA WR and ILB/MLB should cover,
Draft will mostly be for depth, with some getting reps in starting rotation. A veteran WR to cover RZ and 3rd and 1 situations. There will be talents adding into the mix on both sides of the LOS. Competitions is what it’s all about and getting the best potentials to mix into the schematic of schemes.

whoa whoa whoa, slow down on Buddy
let me say Buddy Ryan had some great teams they just didnt get the job done. We have been dealing with the same thing with Andy. These 2 I think compare very well. Andy was a offensive coach, Buddy was a defensive coach. If we could have had this 2 guys together we would have been the ones running away in the 90’s with super bowl after super bowl.
I do
agree with the Kuechly though. He could be very good player but not going to jump in and be that player maker we need right now with stopping the run
The situation between Kuechly and Matthews is much different. Matthews was a 4th rounder who’s stocked jumped greatly just because of his bloodlines. Kuechly is a surefire first round pick, who might not even make it to the Eagles at 15. Judging from this fact alone, Kuechly has the potential to step in and be a playmaker his rookie season, simply because he’s much more talented than Casey Matthews. That being said, just because he’ll be drafted in the first round doesn’t mean he’ll play like a first rounder, especially in his rookie season, which is why I think we should address the position in free agency, and if Kuechly falls to us, take him.
I do like Luke ... but after last season, I cant see us putting all of our eggs in his basket.
I would prefer to bring in Tulloch and let the two compete for the job throughout the season. They can learn a lot from each other. And would be good for the other LBs too.
I also think they should bring in at least one more LB for the OLB.

dear god man...
has there ever been a fanpost you haven’t O’d??? i bet you got/get beat up a lot, didn’t/don’t you?
Luke Kuechly is a NYG fan and lives with his mother phyllis. Vontaze Burfict enjoys eating glue, rock salt and lead paint chips. WE.ARE.FUCKED.
Kuechly has three things going for him that Matthews did NOT have going for him:
(1) Matthews was a dark horse. Nobody saw anything on film (besides the eagles) who persuaded them to project Matthews at anywhere better than special teams. Kuechly has hours of film where he demonstrates the characteristics of the player the Eagles NEED HIM TO BE.
(2) Kuechly will have the full off season to learn from the eagles coaching staffs, and a full year of eagles film footage to see how the defense SHOULD be played against offensive formations. The Eagles had neither the time to learn nor the history to learn from last year. It was “OJT” – on job training – in 2011.
(3) Defensive Priorities. Kuechly is going to have the focus of the coaches and the analysts this year. Last year, the eagles were trying to fix a pass rush and cornerbacks…
this year the focus of the defensive “adjusting” will be solely on our LB situation…
That means, Kuechly will get lots of feedback over and over and over….
No, I don’t think any “kid” is a HOF pro-bowler… but I do think we have serious upside with Kuechly. The few NFL analysts I respect are endorsing what they’ve seen in this kid already.
We need to get a couple LB in this draft, and hopefully sign one in FA…

How the hell did this garbage get 5 recs? Did the author make a bunch of accounts? Kuechly is the most heralded ILB since James Luarenitis. He set records in college and his film study and work ethic are second to none. He’s a beast who can be the quarterback and leader of a defense for the 10 years. The fact that the author compared him to Casey Matthews shows his ignorance and lack of knowledge.

Well buddy sorry to tell you this but some ppl just so happen to side with me. Like I said this team has so much expectations this up coming year that putting an unathletic rookie LB to command a defense that implements the wide-9 that puts so much purse on good LB play, maybe it isn’t a good idea to put a rookie in charge of that. LK is a solid LB but I’d rather have a vet in there.
What makes you think any given veteran is going to perform so much better than LK is? And who is this veteran? Hawthorne? Dunbar? Tulloch? Lofton? Some random veteran we’re not even talking about? There’s a huge gap between the skill sets of different veterans, and saying that they’re all better than what Luke brings to the table (that’s what I’m assuming because you haven’t said who the specific veteran(s) was/were) is absolutely shallow.
And seriously dude:
Granted Matthews probably isn’t as talented as Kuechly
Probably? Kuechly is miles and miles above where Matthews was and is today. There is a reason Kuechly is anticipated to go in the top 15 and Matthews was considered a reach as a 4th round pick. Very, very different players. There are plenty of impact rookies every year in starting positions. Saying that starting Kuechly “is asking for trouble” simply on the premise that he’s a rookie is dumb. Was starting Cam Newton and Sam Bradford in their rookie years “dumb”? Aldon Smith? Brian Cushing? There are a lot of holes in your argument.
And just because people side with you or rec your posts don’t give it any more legitimacy than if there were no recs.
If steven tulloch hits the FA market
I want them to grab him…throw money at him…like they should’ve done last year instead of signing “mr.dream team”…if not luke might be the only one who can fill that spot…but i’m not too sure of him playing in a wide 9 bc wide 9 lbs need serious foot speed luke is lacking in that particular area

No.
LK is not the answer. With todays freaks, LK will be put on blast by faster players in pass coverage. Hightower played under Saban, more athletic, better pedigree.
As for DeSean..how can ANYONE defend this one trick pony? He quits on plays. He can’t go over the middle, drops passes, 0 redzone presence, immature. So he had 961 yards Yay! Held under 60 yards in EIGHT games last year. That’s HALF the season. To take it 1 step futher,,7 games he was held under 50 yards. So uh..yea, If he wants “big” money he can get it elsewhere because he’ll be doing nothing but stealing money from us here.
Maclin is 10x the WR he is. A much better route tree, doesn’t get shut down in Zone coverage. and to use the same example as above for desean…5/13 games under 60 yards REC…3 under 50.
Sorry but DeSean is not worth anything more then 3 mil a year.

Your mother seems to like it so that’s why I do it.
I didn't know Buddy was considered one of the best coaches in Eagles history
I do agree that people look back on the Ryan era as a fun time. I think you overstate that he’s viewed as the best coach ever in Eagles history. You also have to remember that that there are far more losing seasons than winning seasons in Eagles history. Ryan brought back swagger and regular seasons wins. Though I agree Ryan is not the best coach in Eagles history, when you look at the history of the franchise, he had more success than a lot of the coaches.
Reid is a very good coach, but he’s not an elite coach. When you look at his record against winning teams/coaches it isn’t as impressive as you think. Losing three of those NFC Championship games when favored (at home against Tampa Bay, at home against Carolina, on the road against Arizona) is not the mark of an elite coach. His record in the 7 seasons since he took the team to the Super Bow.l is good, but far from elite. Fans do recognize he’s been a good coach, but don’t think he’s elite. Elite coaches win the Super Bowl. The team feels like it has drifted farther away from winning a Super Bowl over those 7 seasons. At this point criticism of Reid is warranted.
The Eagles front office had their part in the Jackson contract dispute. He was told to come in and things would be taken care of. For a player who’s played as well as he has, he is very underpaid. Yes he could have handled it better, but so could the Eagles.
All middle linebackers were rookies at some point. I honestly do not have high expectations for the 2012 season, so I have no problem with drafting a middle linebacker who can be the cornerstone of your defense for years to come. Time to upgrade the position with a player with a pedigree.

Well I feel that he’s more respected and loved in the city of philly while reid is treated like garbage in comparison. Reid doesn’t have a SB ring but you can’t say he isn’t one of the best in the league. The morning he gets fired he’ll have a job before sun down, quote me on that. I do have High expectations for 2012 just for the fact the chemistry will be better, more time for the team to gel and just for the fact that with some few FA acquisitions we’re right up there with the top teams in the NFC.
So uh..
LK ran a 4.58 and top performer in Vert and 20 yd Shuttle..Who saw that coming?
@HaiImLoki Everything from sports, to the Occupy movement, to funny pics, to shenanigans.
Luke=Mike
mark my words….Drafting this dude will be a waste of a 1st round pick….
I would love to blow up Texas Stadium... With team still in it
