Pre-Combine Consensus 350 Big Board
[Note by JasonB, 02/20/12 7:31 AM EST ] Great resource from Dirty Waters here
There are so many Draft websites and sources of information available and everyone has their favorites, myself included. I generally like to form my own opinions, so I don't look at any of these sources individually as gospel. However, I found that collectively they make for a pretty decent starting point. I usually put these together to use as a reference point 4 times a year: 1) Preseason 2) Postseason/Pre-Combine 3) Post-Combine/Pre-Pro Days 4) Final Pre-Draft. The following is the 2nd version for the 2012 draft class and I will be happy to share the 3rd and 4th as well if interested. The following Consensus Big Board is the average overall player rankings, sans kickers/punters, from 16 different NFL draft websites that I have found to be fairly in depth and reliable in their draft analysis...National Football Post, NFL Draft Scout, Drafttek, ESPN, Walterfootball, SI, etc. The top 150 are compiled from all 16 sources and players ranked 151-350 are tallied from the 7 sources that provide extended rankings. The Big Board is in order by overall rank, but also lists each player's positional ranking (P#), school, NFL positions (P1,P2), and I also added a High-Low column that gives you the full variance of opinion for each player..i.e Vontaze Burfict's High-Low is 13-111. Some of the positions listed are pretty self explanatory, but to clarify: WRS = speed receiver, WRP = possession receiver, RBC = speed or change of pace back, ROT = right tackle only, 34DE / 34LB / NT = 3-4 defense, and conversely, OLB / DE / DT = 4-3 defense. Keep in mind that the positional ranking can be misleading...i.e. Bobbie Massie is listed as the #1 ROT, but all the OTs listed ahead of him could also play RT...same goes for Nick Toon as the #1 WRP....you get the point.

Eagles go 8-8 or 9-7 in 2012/2013 season. 2/17/12
No way Eagles draft a LB in the first round 2012.
We will see if Spags was in the right place at the right time in the Gmens SB run. Or was that the fluke year and he really is just mediocre.

How much freaking time did that take?

This was...
Impressive.

And from our MTD Mock...
Brockers: Drafted at 15, actual 9 — 6
Floyd: Drafted at 23, actual 13 - -10
Wagner: Drafted at 55, actual 65 - +10 21
Steed: Drafted at 115, actual 136 -
Bradham: Drafted at 142, actual 118 — 24
Graham: Drafted at 177, actual 245 - 68
Young: Drafted at 185, actual 242 - +67 -71
Turbin: Drafted at 191, actual 120 -
So we did great with Brockers, Floyd, Bradham, and Turbin; We did okay on Wagner and Steed; And we didn’t do so well on Graham or Young. But overall I’m happy with it.

i'd love to know who had Alshon Jeffery at 5, Devon Still at 37, and Lamar Miller at 10
probably Todd McShay who’s an idiot.

all the same person, Matt Miller of New Era Scouting and his updated rankings have Jeffrey 7, Miller 11, and Still 35 so stay tuned for further course correction

Jeffrey reportedly is at 217 lbs and run a 4.5. IF that's the case, you could make an argument for it.
He was borderline unstoppable in 2010, and only a drunk QB stopped him this past year

His amazing ball skills combined with the questions about his weight, work ethic, and speed remind me of a similar chorus about a certain receiver out of UNC a few years ago. I liked Hakeem Nicks more than any other receiver in that draft including Crabtree. For the record, I also thought Maclin was going to be a bust.
Jeremy Lin already gets more foul calls than the Sixers
He's basically a taller Hakeem Nicks.
Both are physical and have insane body control to win jump balls and adjust on the fly. Predraft, I liked Nicks a little more than Maclin, and had them ahead of Percy Harvin, Kenny Britt, and Darius Heyward-Bey. I bought into the Crabtree hype tho. I wanted Maclin because I wanted to add some speed to the rotation but was happy that we got Hakeem anyway

Nicks is so much more agile, coordinated and quick than Jeffery.

Jeffrey is deceptively quick off the ball. Nicks is probably more slippery with his hands on the ball though.
I was comparing both of their abilities to create physical mismatches and contort their bodies to adjust to the ball as it comes to them

they aren't very similar
Hakim is stronger and a more polished route runner and pass catcher. Like you, I preferred him over Maclin and everyone else in the 2009 Draft. But don’t compare him to Jeffery who is more comparable to South Carolina alum, Sidney Rice (who only had one good year with a Hall of Fame QB).

agree to disagree...I've seen some tremendous strength from Alshon

Well, in all fairness
It is a compilation of a bunch of different outlets, and they are always trying to one-up each other and say they projected the next big player. So I understand if it looks like mumbo-jumbo up there with some of those positions. Now how in the hell did you stay awake long enough to put all of that together, mathmatically? Thats just crazy, rec.

You can see a correlation between the numbers of picks between the high and lows of players and how inconsistent they’re figured to be. Players like Luck and Richardson have pretty stable high-lows while players like Burfict show their inconsistency by having such a wide range between the high and low. I’m also a little confused as to how Kuechly was rated at 65 on one board…
That would be known as
the players standard deviation. The closer to 1 the better.
You are all welcome for todays math lesson!!!!
look to the averge
The range can be deceiving because I’ve only seen Kuechly below 30 2x’s. If you looked at 15 experienced ‘scouts’ Kuechly is probably top 20 on 12 and top 35 on 14. There has always been a legit question on speed but his combines will settle that to a large degree. The fact the low end of the range is fo far from the average suggests the low rankings are outliers.
Not totally Eagles related but GO DAWGS!
Wouldn’t mind if the Iggs drafted Boykin at some point though…
Luxury rap, the Hermes of verses. Sophisticated ignorance, write my curses in cursive
outstanding work
would be extremely helpful to revise after the combines. This s/b the last event to impact rankings much. The pro days are interesting for who is there and Free Agency doesn’t impact draft rankings. The variability is amazing and despite my lust for Kuechly and Lavonte David I do believe the Eagles will lean toward Best Player Available. Your rankings provide a consensus view of that.
