Around SBN: NFL Players Ready To Welcome Gay Teammate

Danny Watkins bought a fire truck. Watkins drives while Kelce does the camera work. Kind of awesome.

Is that legal?

Well Watkins is a firefighter and Kelce said he has a class C license so I think it’s legal. The only part that I think is illegal is the sirens.

It could always depend on where in the world they are,

But in PA, yeah, the sirens are the only illegal thing going on in that video.

I'm guessing the coaches know.

I feel like that’s not something that is easy to hide. Especially considering blogs like BGN (which the organization monitors).

They monitor us?

You really think so?

And how do you know?

I'm pretty sure I've heard others on here say that the organization at least knows about the major Eagles blogs and what goes on at them.

I know that Syracuse is well aware of Troy Nunes Is An Absolute Magician and apparently David Kahn called somebody out in an invite only event for comments made on Canis Hoopus, so at least some schools/teams definitely are well aware of the major blogs’ existence.

Maybe I’m wrong about the Eagles, but I thought someone on here (someone trustworthy I might add) mentioned having first-hand knowledge that the team follows BGN to some degree.

Hmm.

Interesting. Maybe not, but if he doesn’t have a clause in his contract about it it might not matter anyway.

Like I said, he only drives the truck. Im sure even the Captains around town wouldnt want him to possibly injure himself outside the field….they are all fans as well…..

Idiot

No wonder so many NFL players end up broke. Why would you possibly spend at least 50k+ cash on an asset that will just progressively lose lots of value over the next several years.

by MG77 on Feb 14, 2012 2:27 PM EST reply actions

Wow….what you just said makes you sound like the idiot.

He bought it as a toy. It is most likely an older vintage collectible model. Once hes done his 3-4 years in the NFL, hes going right back in firefighting. This guy loves it more than playing in the NFL. You might wanna know someone before judging his spending habits. You probably spent money on toys before. What makes him so different? At least hes spending it on his passion….

I admit I know nothing about the ‘vintage fire engine’ collectible market and how it works or even if such a thing really exists among collectors.

He signed a deal for $7.9M for 4 years but after you take fees/taxes out I bet he is lucky to take home half of that. I know $4M sounds like a lot but you can send it a lot faster than you think especially if you buy a house, an expensive car or two, and start really spending on kids including private school.

This ‘it is only a toy’ mentality is a large part of why NFL players go broke along with terrible investment especially in businesses that have a high failure rate/poor return on capital including restaurants. Something that is 50k and probably 2x that isn’t “a toy.” If Watkins really does think like that, then he is getting horrible financial advice and hasn’t remotely grown up which he should have since he is 26.

I also have no idea what his love of firefighting really has to do with this either.

Seriously...

I love seeing a guy buying a fire truck, have fun with it, and share it with another OL man. Once again, I prefer to see him buying something that is in agreement with his prior life and his future life. Any people that discussed with him say that he’s a great guy with a good head. It’s not a sportscar, it’s not big parties, it’s not a music company… With what he got through the last few years, he earnt to be able to buy a big toy. Yes it’s irrational, but I like that kind of irrationality.

If you knew any firefighter, you would know that we love our firetrucks. I know that you were generalizing in your judgement based on the rest of the league…I get it. But you need to understand that not eveyone is like that. Danny will be fine after his NFL career. I know his family, he will have no problem returning to the simple life here as a FF in a few years. At 26-27 he does have more life experience than your typical NFL rookie. Im not saying that I know or even care about what he does personally. But we often sit here and judge everything we see and “know” about these guys and are often pretty ignorant or hypocritical when thew reality is, we all do the same things at a smaller scale.

$4,900 for this one. I think he’ll be ok, that’s about 1/10th what TO paid for his freaking earring.

The coaches are to blame, the players are to blame. Sorry to say, but Andy has lost this team. 53 super talented individuals with no heart.

Watkins probably got that firetruck for around $3,000 more than one night of DeSean at a bar...

Here is Watkins and his truck

Here is a truck i found for $28,500

Here is one of Jackson’s bar tabs

And a tweet he tweeted after

I have so much more respect for Watkins right now…

48/8=6.

Maths.

And yes, that’s still expensive.

And yes, DeSean is a punk idiot.
