Citing a source close to Randy Moss, Yahoo Sports reports that the Eagles and Jets "are at least curious" about signing the free agent.

We're guessing the speculation came from Moss' agent. Yahoo's Jason Cole also names the Patriots and 49ers as potential suitors as clubs with clear needs for help in the vertical pass game. We can say confidently that Moss will draw interest in free agency. The one-year, roughly $3 million deal Plaxico Burress played for in 2011 could be a reasonable starting point in contract talks.

I think it means “we are making shit up but wants to gather some quick hits.”

I don’t think it’s entirely baseless, but you’re probably not too far off.

As the posts say, I think most agents just name the Eagles and the Pats to drive up value for his client.

Yeah, I just think it’s a funny way to put it. “Are at least curious”… lol.

If I had the choice between signing Plax and Moss, and I had to sign one, I think I’d rather have Plax at this point. Moss might be a nice consolation prize at a decent price, however.

by PhiladelphiaEagles on Feb 13, 2012 3:44 PM EST reply actions

FWIW:

The Eagles reportedly did have interest in him according to Schefter just 5 months ago.

There was also a report by the Boston Herald 6 months ago that the Eagles had made an offer to Moss, but Jeff McLane said it the report wasn’t true.

Championship! I always got excited at thoughts of having Randy on our team..

Maybe the Randy from a few years ago. Now? Meh.

2012 is the year of Philly sports teams.

These reports are utter garbage.

They just “predict” things that seem plausible or likely to happen, and call it a “report” from unnamed sources.

I’m still waiting for Spags to show up at the Philly airport like the report promised… afterall, Andy was ordered by the FO to admit he was wrong and fire Juan or else he’ll get canned too.

What is it...

…with rumors about the Eagles hiring old, ex-superstars like they are the Redskins or the Raiders or something? When have they EVER done that in the past? There simply is no precedence for the Eagles signing Plax (34 years old) or Moss (150 years old).

The Eagles never take the short view on player development unless they are backed into a corner, and that only happens in mid-season when there is an obvious hole in the roster. The Eagles are not in trouble with WR’s but they could certainly stand to improve. They will move towards youth when they move. When was the last time that the Eagles added someone to the roster who was 30, let alone 34? Hell, the next rumor is going to be that Andy Reid has shown some interest in T.O. (ptui!)

I would be more apt to believe this swill if they were talking about bringing back Teddy Bruski or trading for Bryan Urlacher (at 33 years old). At least there is a profound weakness on the team in their position.

Did you miss last year...

when the Eagles were talking to Plax, they just wouldn’t meet his price. Plax just has to be willing to play for less, and he’ll be wearing forest green next year.

"Eagles fans are a passionate group who love their team," said McNabb, "if not the actual players. It's not like winning a Super Bowl before the first month of the season is the hardest thing they've ever asked of me. That'd be all those times they asked me to go kill myself."

It seems to me that they will talk to everyone, just not pull the trigger on anyone that old. And you have a good point about the money:

The Eagles do not percieive anyone over 30 or so to have the same value that other teams are willing to pay.

Why are Iggles fans

obsessed with WRs? This team has other more important needs and some pretty good receivers already.

Haven’t you heard? The Eagles have already drafted Luke with the #15 pick. OUR LB ISSUES ARE SOLVED!!

We don’t need an overhaul at WR but we need to get more physical. And if Jackson leaves there’s a spot right there. I wouldn’t mind Moss or Plax for one or two years. I also would not mind drafting a WR early if things fall right.

If we could get better in the RZ our offense could be pretty damn good.

Go Eagles!

ROTFLMAO

1 year $3 Million as the starting point?

How about more like 1 year $950,000?

Anything more would be ludicrous. The guy sat last year, and is old …
