The Make-A-Mock Thread

Everyone has opinions but not everyone has the time to make all those drawn out mock drafts. I figured this could actually lead to some good discussion about what the Eagles should do this offseason.

Eagles Free Agents:

Philadelphia Eagles
Abiamiri, Victor DE UFA
Brown, Ronnie RB UFA
Dixon, Antonio DT RFA
Dunlap, King OT UFA
Jackson, DeSean WR UFA
Landri, Derek DT UFA
Laws, Trevor DT UFA
Mathis, Evan OG UFA
Parker, Juqua DE UFA
Schmitt, Owen RB UFA
Smith, Steve E. WR UFA
Young, Vince QB UFA

Here is a team by team list of free agents: Link

Eagles Draft Picks:

1st Round Pick
2nd Round Pick via the Arizona Cardinals
2nd Round Pick
3rd Round Pick
4th Round Pick via the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
4th Round PIck
5th Round Pick
6th Round Pick
6th Round Pick via the Denver Broncos
6th Round Pick via the New England Patriots

So, what would you like to see the Eagles do this offseason? What is your master plan to propel the Philadelphia Eagles to the top of the football world? What free agents are you bringing back? Which ones are you letting walk? Which free agents are you going to sign? Are you going to trade for someone? Who are you going to draft? What prospects do you like? Which ones do you hate? What do you think the Eagles need to improve? It's all up to you, let it rip.

I’d take another reciever somewhere. Probably Stephen Hill in the 3rd. I’d make one but mocks are pointless before the combine IMO.

no way bro. They tried last year and no one bit. I’ll never say never but it would be a loooong shot.

At least one more year of Andy and Juan. If they don't win it all they both better be gone!

No way Eagles draft a LB in the first round 2012.

We will see if Spags was in the right place at the right time in the Gmens SB run. Or was that the fluke year and he really is just mediocre.

Love the Meachem pick. Also, I’ve been saying for a while I wouldn’t be surprised at all if we traded AS to Detroit for a 2, although for some reason everyone thought it was crazy.

I think that was a bad projection. Joe Adams is an electric receiver and return man, those guys don’t last until the 5th round. I see 3rd round at worst.

I'd say electric return man

and consistent receiver. I agree it was a bad projection, but it was still one made by scouts at cbs, NFL network, and i believe ESPN (may be wrong on that one). I have Joe as my first receiver pick for us. I just think it’ll be the Asante trade pick or the first fourth. My point is, he’s not Dexter McCluster coming out of college or even a guy like Eddie Royal or Donnie Avery who were both dynamic in COLLEGE. I am on the Adams bandwagon, he is probably my favorite offensive senior but I don’t think teams will take in the 2nd mainly because of the influx of talent this year at the position.

i think every Eagles fan at the least liked Desean before this year. I really liked him, but have since slightly changed my opinion a little bit. Then after a couple plays I saw from him, my opinion improved…for example his play against Washington where he finally had a long pass TD, and when he ran down a defender basically the whole length of the field after a INT or fumble (I don’t remember which it was, nor what game to be totally honest)

I don’t think he’ll be available at the 15th pick. I think the Bills or the Cardinals are going to grab him. Also, Lofton fills in our MLB spot, meaning we can spend a pick upgrading the OLB spot instead.

I don't understand why after

you obtain all those draft picks we don’t just use firepower to move up the board?

Instead of trading our #15 we package that with a 2nd round pick we have and one or both of the 3rds and try to move up and take a premier player? I mean if we could move up to #4 or #5 we could possibly grab RGIII which with all the picks we have and based on your offseason we would’ve filled the hole at MLB, Backup RB, and brought in a much needed veteran presence at Safety..

This leaves WR and OLB as a whole.

We could potentially end up grabbing a future Franchise QB who fits the mold the Eagles love, then have the 2nd round pick (13th) to grab a guy like Burfict, Sanu, Wright etc in the 2nd…

I’d also go after Rainy in the 4th or 5th, the guy is going to help a team somewhere, he has Slot written all over him but hell with that speed and a free release we’d be fine with grabbing a WR through FA.

I’m responding to all of the comments in this one post, so here we go:

On Why Alshon Jeffery at 22:
This is simple. I think Floyd will be gone by then, and we will be down to Wright and Jeffery with this pick. I think Wright is the “flavor of the month” right now, and Jeffery has a build that corresponds well with Maclin. I think Jeffery is the smart pick at 22 here.

My Mistake with Weeden:
Sorry guys, I forgot to change that pick. I had that as Weeden before I had us getting Edwards in free agency. Someone like Rainey might be a good pick there, or a WR that specializes in returning.

In Response to Steve Smith:
Well, first off, Steve Smith’s contract actually hit the four million mark. What he did receive was two million guaranteed, which is where you probably got your figure from. 2.5-3 million is for the entire contract, so yes, that’s cheaper than when we first signed him.

Secondly, there are two reasons why the Eagles will probably keep Steve Smith (in this entire situation). One, the Eagles know best about Steve Smith, and I bet that they’re completely in on the fact that he was hampered badly by injury last year. If that’s the case and they think recovery will be the difference between the old and new Steve Smith, then they will bring him back. Two, when your team loses your “star” wide receiver in Free Agency (Jackson), you’re not going to open two spots in your WR roster for inexperienced rookies. You’re also not going to dip in and take good talent for expensive money on a 4th WR. You want the cheapest option, and you want a balanced WR. I think (the healthy) Steve Smith can do this.

On Trading Up:
I agree with NJ Eagle that Griffin will not be available at that point. He’s probably going #2 to someone who offers their future away (see: Redskins). Also, Atlanta had to trade two first round picks, a second round pick, and a fourth round pick for that #5 spot last year. We might have a decently higher draft pick this year, but with the CBA shelving high contracts, I expect asking prices for the top 10 picks to go up quite a bit as well. The Eagles will not risk future early round picks in this (or any) draft.

I think the more likely scenario is that we’re going to trade down and get picks in the “tweener” area of the first and second round, and select some talent there. With a few exceptions, that’s what Andy/the Eagles do. I don’t think they need a high draft pick right now for the future. That year will probably be in the next three years, with the exception of us winning a Super Bowl.

About Rainey, read my response to Weeden.

Ya I still don't buy a WR in the first...

Unless it’s Floyd or Blackmon really. I’d take Ingram, Coples, Still, Dennard, Barron, Brown, and Kuechly before I looked at WR, esp if Steve Smith was staying.

Trevor Laws: "Thank Giants for kicking to (Desean)."
Mike Vick: "Why would they kick to Desean?"
Matt Dodge: "Snap too high!"
NJ Eagle: "Fly Eagles Fly!!!"

by NJEagle on Feb 2, 2012 12:38 PM EST up reply actions

Out of that list, I don’t expect Ingram, Coples, or Still to be there at the #15 pick let alone the #22. (I’m hoping for Still, but that won’t happen). I’ve already said similar about Kuechly. I don’t think we’re going to draft safety in the first round, the Eagles realize that they’ve made a lot of investment with young players in that position already (hence them striking gold with a really serviceable veteran FS in free agency). Dennard is okay, but the 22nd pick might be a bit of a reach there IMO. Brown is a good choice, but he’ll be in the same area as Dennard, which is why I took him 31st/32nd overall.

I think you really have to take a look at the roster to see what life without DeSean will be like. You’re going to have Maclin as your #1, which is in between the area of serviceable and good. After that, who are you going to put in as your second WR? Avant has great hands, but he’s proven to shine in one area, and that’s the slot. Steve Smith could be a great wide receiver, but I’m not so sure the Eagles are just going to put him in the second spot from the get-go. Cooper and Hall aren’t going to be your #2 WR. You’re going to need to either bring in a great FA name for a bunch of cash (even Meachem is going to demand some top money) or draft a great WR in the draft. I sincerely believe that once you get past Blackmon, Floyd, Jeffery, and (sorta) Wright, there is a pretty big drop off in skill, and I’m not sure if there’s anyone in the second round or later that I can put into my second WR spot. Heck, it’s possible to get Jeffery cheaper than what you’d pay for Meachem. It makes too much sense to draft a WR like Jeffery that early.

"It's not going to make me try to hit you any harder, because I'm going to do that anyway." - Brian Dawkins

by TheRealMcCoy on Feb 2, 2012 6:16 PM EST up reply actions

Meachem will not demand top money. He has averaged 43 recs and 660 yards over the last three years. That doesn’t warrant top money whatsoever. Especially not in this FA crop of WR’s.

Let me rephrase that. He’ll demand top money for his position, which is WR2. Since he hails from a very prominent offense, and his agent will bill him as a legit WR2, he will be more expensive than the other possible WR2 options out there.

Why all the draft day trades

all the trades dont make sense and there is no way alshon jeffery and zach brown drop to the late first round

there is no way alshon jeffery and zach brown drop to the late first round

Really? No way? It’s not like he’s predicting Matt Kalil and Quinton Coples to fall. Brown and Jeffery are two guys who have various question marks. Some have compared Alshon to Mike Williams who busted in Detroit then came back to be mediocre in Seattle. And Zach Brown lacks a lot in the tackling department and has already been projected in the early 2nd round by a lot of mocks I’ve seen.

by Smitty2K3 on Feb 2, 2012 6:04 PM EST up reply actions

Pretty much this for the second part of your comment.

On the trading part, these actually make a good deal of sense. The first is a classic Eagles move. Your high end target is gone by the 15th pick, and your other targets can be had at a later pick. They often trade down to gather more picks while still getting one of the guys they were targeting, and they receive very high end second and fourth round picks in return (essentially “another 1st round pick and another 3rd round pick” high).

The second trade is a classic New England move, and we have the picks to supply them that kind of trade. The Patriots thrive in the second round, and to them, they can get more value with two middle second round picks than they can with one 31st/32nd overall pick. We, on the other hand, pick a player that fills in a team need.

I actually thought these were pretty reasonable and fair.

i realize life without desean is tough

but this year, he had alot of empty yards (garbage time and on unsuccessful drives). If you get Jeffrey in the 2nd pull that trigger, but remember boom/bust on WR is very thin line. I’d rather sign a guy like Reggie Wayne, Robert Meachem, or Marques Colston. I think the price of known commodities is better than an early shot in the dark. We’re so awful at drafting in the 3rd round, I hope they trade up to ten for Still with our 3rd.

Mike Vick: "Why would they kick to Desean?"
Matt Dodge: "Snap too high!"

I wasn’t commenting on trading down one way or the other. Or trading back up into the 1st round. I’m open to trades like that. I was just saying there’s a very big possibility that Brown/Jeffery fall to the late 1st or early 2nd round.

Sorry, I replied to your comment to agree with you concerning slamajama’s post. You pretty much answered the first part of his comment. The second part about the trades was for slamajama.

Thank you very much! We’ll see, I personally consider that late of a first round pick to be more like a high-end second round pick, and the Eagles have openly brought up LB concerns. First pick in the draft? Probably not. Second pick? I wouldn’t count it out.

I like Kendall Wright but just wondering when Philly will have a physical threat at WR. I really like Alshon Jeffery (WR) South Carolina in the 1st. He made Garcia much better than he was in a very competitive SEC east. Just my thought

upside. He kinda reminds me of Megatron. Big and physical but also very fast. He doesn’t run crisp routes but uses his body to shield defenders. Not that he is as good as……but he is that prototype.

Alshon

Is no way near Calvin Johnson. Calvin johnson was one of the faster Wide-Outs in that draft class, Alshon isn’t a blazer and will not be tops for 40 times. They have the similar height but Calvin was WAY more athletic and tons faster. Alshon is good, don’t get me wrong, but he’s no Calvin Johnson (other than being tall).

Eagles' FA

Resign only Dunlap, Landry, Mathis, possibly Dixon (depends if they draft a DT high which I think they definitely might with one of the first 3 picks), and possibly Jackson (depends if he agrees to a reasonable long-term deal otherwise you have to trade him because real risk he is a malcontent/underachiever if they just franchise him)

I would be a bit surprised if they resign Dunlap too. Doesn’t fit the system here right now but they just might because they don’t have a ton of backups & he can shift out to tackle if needed.

I don’t get the Schmitt love at all. He’s adequate but if the Eagles can draft a young FB with a 4th/5th round pick I wouldn’t mind seeing him gone if the Eagles need to free up that money for other uses.

by MG77 on Feb 1, 2012 11:26 PM EST reply actions

I think

it’s that Schmitt is perfectly adequate in our offense that makes limited use of the fullback, (I assume) is cheap, and already knows the offense/his role. They tried drafting a FB in late rounds last year with Havili and he didn’t get past training camp.

In summation, it’s not that he’s loved, but he’s good enough and there are more pressing concerns.

Worth a shot

Definite Releases/Don’t Re-sign:
QB- Vince Young- Upgradable, not enough value.
RB- Ronnie Brown- Think he could work if we used him properly, but I think he’ll look elsewhere anyways.
OT- Winston Justice- Irrelevant to the team now, way too much money. Bye.
DT- Trevor Laws- He showed promise at times, but nothing worthy of bringing him back, very disappointing.
There will be more to leave town, this is just a list of guys who don’t fit into any plans.
Desean Jackson- I’m going to re-sign as I believe something reasonable can be worked out and he’s very much symbolic of our offense and it would be just as pricey finding someone else who doesn’t know our system. I think this is the best move.
Evan Mathis- Re-signed. Instrumental to our Oline and we finally seen the line gel as the season progressed, keep that in tact.
King Dunlap- Re-signed. Our best reserve lineman, we’ve spent time developing him, let’s reap those benefits.
Antonio Dixon- Re-signed. He showed a lot of promise prior to his injury and he’s worth keeping.
Derek Landri- Re-signed. He was a major boost of the bench and fit our system well.
Trade Asante Samuel- I gave it away already, but I’m shipping him and a 6th off to Detroit for their 2nd round pick.
Trade Daryl Tapp- Trade to Buffalo for 2013 conditional 4th/5th round pick.
Free Agency:
Sign LB- London Fletcher- Obvious upgrade to what we have, he’s older, but we don’t have to develop someone right now, we need production. He’s older and hasn’t won since he was in St. Louis. He’s very durable too, so he’s the best option. I’m open to others such as Hawethorne, or Tulloch, but I have to choose 1, so its Fletcher.
Sign WR- Plaxico Burress- I might lose some here, but he’s taking Steve Smith’s roster spot, and he adds something we don’t have with size and consistency in the red zone. He’s not giving us a 1,000 yards, but if things go right we don’t have 1,000 yards to give him anyways with the rest of our weapons.
Sign QB- David Garrard- He’s removed from his surgery, and could have played this past season if he wanted to. Coming here he knows Vick can go down at any time and he’s a successful QB. Huge upgrade at back-up.
Sign S- Reggie Nelson- Playmaker at Safety. Very good chance he hits the market, and he adds a consistent playmaker in the middle of the field. Sort of "meh" in Jacksonville but he showed his talent last season in Cincy.
Sign RB- Ladanian Tomlinson- He’s getting up there, but he fits what we need. He can spell Shady, he can pass block, and as required for our RBs, he can catch. If he views us as a contender he’s very realistic.
Sign DT- Jason Jones- Knows Washburn’s system, still very young, has upside.
Draft:
Trade #15 overall to Cincinnati for 1st (17st overall via Oak) and 3rd (84th)
After the draft day and Samuel trades we are left with:
1st (#17)
2nd
2nd(from Ari)
2nd(from Det)
3rd
3rd (from Cin)
4th(from TB)
4th
5th
6th
6th(from Den)
6th(from NE)
With the 17st overall selection:
Janoris Jenkins- CB: We move down because Kuechly is already taken, and Cincy has it’s paws on Trent Richardson who is sliding way past his value. With Jenkins, we get a starting caliber CB who isn’t rushed into a starting role yet. Jenkins, who has character concerns, is a gamble, but I think he’s a worthy risk. In his last season at Florida he faced Julio Jones, AJ Green, and Alshon Jeffrey, and shut them all down.
Trade 2nd (46th) and 3rd (77th) to Minnesota for 2nd (35th)
With the 35th overall selection:
Ryan Tannehill- QB: We need a young QB to groom for the future, and a 1st round talent like Tannehill slips to the 2nd due to an injured foot and inexperience at the position. He was switched from WR this past season, but has an above average arm, excellent throwing on the run, very intelligent, and accurate. He needs time to develop (working under Center, making reads, etc), things that come with experience. Our QB factory should move him along nicely.
With 2nd (via Ari)
Jared Crick- DE/DT: Informally speaking, he’s a beast. Highly productive, can play inside or outside, he adds toughness to our defense.
2nd (via Det)
Bobby Wagner- LB: Not as big of a name, but very productive, and experienced. He was a 4-year starter, and dominated his conference. He can play inside or outside.
Rest of draft:
1st: Janoris Jenkins- CB
2nd: Ryan Tannehill- QB
2nd: Jared Crick- DE/DT
2nd: Bobby Wagner- LB
3rd: Audie Cole- LB
4th: Matt Reynolds- OT/OG
4th:Rishaw Johnson- OG
5th: Chris Rainey- KR/PR
6th: Trade for 2013 5th
6th: Evan Rodriguez- FB
6th: Project OL

Summary: We add another LB who can play Mike/SAM, add a versatile OL (from BYU), a project OG, a premier KR/PR specialist, more picks next year, a FB for competition, and another OL for Reid and Mudd.

Final Roster:
QB- Vick/Garrard/Tannehill
HB- McCoy/Tomlinson/Lewis
FB- OPEN (Schmidt vs Havili vs FA vs Rodriguez)
WR- Maclin/Avant/Cooper
WR- Jackson/Burress
TE- Celek/Harbor
OT- Peters/Herremans/Dunlap/Reynolds
OG-Mathis/Watkins/Valverde(vs Johnson)

I’m not a big fan of signing big-name, older FA’s like Fletcher, LT, and Plaxico. I’d be okay with maybe one or two of them, but not all three. Not only is that counter-productive considering you can draft younger/cheaper players to do the same things, but it’s also unrealistic (Eagles wouldn’t target guys like that unless they were elite (like Nnamdi, Babin, Jenkins).

Disclaimer: I know Fletcher is still a stud. And could be much better than any rookie LB we can bring in. But he’s almost 40 years old. It won’t last very long.

by Smitty2K3 on Feb 2, 2012 12:41 PM EST up reply actions

I can respect that, i expected that to be challanged. I would just say they would be major assets in we know what we are getting and in the case of LT, he knows his role, he only had 70 carries last year, and he wants to win. Id be ok with other backs, i just feel he fits well and can add experience to a young group. He just takes Ronnie Browns spot.

Plax is just replacing Smith. We arent changing the speed thing we have but he accents it well. Hes played for winners too, thats a factor for me.

Fletcher is the best option i think, but i know its a stop gap. Even so, i brought in two high picks at LB, and if even one works out of the two, we are okay. Fletcher is durable and we lack consistency so that was my thought. Im open to a Tulloch or Hawethorne though.

by Mc5 on Feb 2, 2012 2:01 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

On second thought

I don’t hate your plan as much as I originally thought. I like Wagner and Audie Cole. If Fletcher can come in for a year or two to solidify the MLB position while the young guys improve and learn off of him, I’m fine with that.

And with Plaxico, if you’re thinking of him more as a situational player, then I like it. His height could be a huge asset in the red zone.

I’m indifferent on LT though. I’m not sure how much he has left. I’d rather bring in a rookie RB to play behind Dion.

Overall, it’s not a bad plan. I prefer younger guys like Tulloch/Lofton over Fletcher, but I’d be open to it if the younger guys don’t come here.

by Smitty2K3 on Feb 2, 2012 3:37 PM EST up reply actions

I’d prefer Lofton over anything, but I see those chances as slim to none. Tulloch would be another great option, I just think with Fletcher we add more leadership and consistency, but all mentioned are legitimate options and obvious upgrades.

I say LT because if Shady goes down for any period of time we arent a running team anyways, and LT can step in and be our 3rd down back (excellent in both pass pro and receiving) and he has a reason and urgency to play. Sure, we can get a younger and cheaper option, but like Plaxico, we arent adding him for a long term option, he’s simply a 1, maybe 2 year addition of quality depth that adds something we dont have already.

get a new rookie salary structure. alot more teams will be trading up. one team could theorhetically have 5 first round draft picks and not be finacially devastated like years past. and i agree, no way we get 3 firsts, i was just trying to go for the “wow” factor.

i understand how the cba works

i just think that’s alittle much for Andy who has shown in the past (09) that when he has more than one option in the first round, he’d prefer a veteran. He traded the 28th overall pick for Jason Peters just days before the draft instead of taking a guy like Eben Britton.

Here is my shot...

Resign the following:
Evan Mathis
King Dunlap
Derek Landri
Antonio Dixon (not so likely)

Sign WR Reggie Wayne (affordable and still a top 20 receiver at 33, probably something like 3 year, 16 million)
Sign MLB David Hawthorne (5 yrs, 28 million)
Sign Safety Mike Adams (3 years, 10 million)

Asante Samuel to the Lions for a 3rd (general opinion)

Let Desean Jackson walk (here is why: more trouble with the franchise tag. He may sign it and the 9 mill is garunteed, if you’re not cool with 9 a year over 4 years, why do it for a one year deal? Also if you want to trade him, you’re going to want to add value on the 2nd you spent on him and would you give up more than a second for him after this season? And then pay him 8 mill a year?)

Draft:

1(15) – Melvin Ingram, DE, South Carolina (if we sign Hawthrone or Dan Connor)
2(13) – Stephen Gilmore, CB, South Carolina (no I don’t like the other USC, they are both great players)
2(15) – Bobby Wagner, OLB, Utah State
3(15) – Bernard Price, HB, Temple
3(21)- Joe Adams, WR, Arkansas
4(5) – Brett Roy, DT, Nevada
4(15) – Keenan Robinson, LB, Texas
5(15) – Nate Potter, OT, Boise St.
6(15) – Charles Mitchell, S, Miss St.
6(25) – T.J. Graham, WR, NC St.

Sidenote: I think this is the year Andy and Marty make Clay Harbor the H-back/Fullback like people talked about when he was drafted.

if they cut Jenkins

I think they use their extra 4th and a future 3rd to go up to 10 for Still. He’s a complete DT. Honestly, I think they should draft him regardless because you don’t know how Mike P will recover from brain surgery or how long he’ll be able to take hits to the head. Also as much as we like Landri, he’s great as a 3rd guy in THIS system, not a starter. Still fits all systems so even if there is a regime change..we are good to go.

He’s too good to cut. He earned whatever salary he’s projected to make in 2012.

But like you said, I agree that DT might be a smart position to address in the first round regardless because you don’t know how Patterson will come back from brain surgery and your two starters are nearing the wrong side of their careers. Patterson being 28 and Jenkins 31.

4th: Nigel Bradham, LB, FSU
4th: Isaiah Pead, RB, Cincinnati

A few notes: The two key FA signings I most want to see is Stephen Tulloch (or Curtis Lofton/D’Qwell Jackson) and Marcel Reese. Marcel is a matchup nightmare much like Leonard Weaver was here in his first year. If we don’t sign a FA MLB, then Keuchly or Hightower are must-picks in the 1st. Also, I’m not crazy about Dwight Jones, but I think we need a little more height on offense. I wasn’t sure where/how to address the KOR/PR positions so I was looking at Pead or Joe Adams. A CB/S could potentially fill this spot as well, but I went with Pead as a 3rd RB behind Dion Lewis.

Thanks

As much as I like Keuchly or Hightower, I think there’s good value later in the draft at LB. If we sign a veteran LB to solidify one spot, then we can draft 2-3 LB’s to compete with Rolle, Matthews, Clayton, Fokou for the other two spots.

I really like Wagner and Bradham. And because of that I’d even be okay with using the L. David 2nd round pick for another position.

The above scenario would have our defensive roster looking like this:

A LB corps like this would be ideal:
Tulloch/Lofton/Hawthorne/DQ Jackson (One of the four)
Rolle
Matthews
David
Wagner
Bradham
Potentially Clayton/Fokou fighting for 6 or 7 spots

With a DL corps like this:
Cole
Babin
Graham
Coples
Tapp
Hunt
Jenkins
Patterson
Dixon
Landri

CB:
Asomugha
DRC
Hanson
Bentley
Marsh
Hughes

Safety:
Allen
Branch
Coleman
Jarrett

I really like that roster. You’re looking at upgrades at MLB and Safety, along with some youth infusion at every position.

good job

What scares me, downright terrifies, is Nnamdi or DRC going down and Hanson starting again. (See 2010). Theres talent there for sure, but its tough to wager Marsh or Bentley stepping up when we play against Brees, Manning twice, Newton, etc..

But i like the rest a lot.

by Mc5 on Feb 2, 2012 2:09 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

In a perfect world

Asante would get his head out of his ass and DRC would magically learn the slot CB position so all three could be on the field and be happy. But I just don’t see that happening.

The scenario above is putting a lot on Marsh/Hughes/Bentley. But you have to go with the young guys eventually. If NA or DRC goes down, I don’t think Hanson would start outside. It’d go to one of the other three guys and I’m okay with one of them being decent. Not many teams can realistically have the CB depth that we had last year.

by Smitty2K3 on Feb 2, 2012 3:44 PM EST up reply actions

True

But i’d hate for a strength to become a weakness, especially when we play 3 of the top 4 passers next season, with a few more, like Romo, Roethlisberger, Ryan, Newton, who eclipsed 4k. We tried this with our Safety position and it burnt us, i’d just like to have reliable depth.

by Mc5 on Feb 2, 2012 4:55 PM EST up reply actions

Fair enough

So what’s your solution? Take out the Asante trade I mentioned to keep him on board? Then you’d have to cut Justice, Tapp, and Jamaal in order to free up the money to pay Asante. And even then, you might run into trouble elsewhere on the roster with guys like Mathis, Landri, Desean, Maclin, McCoy who are FA’s or will be soon.

by Smitty2K3 on Feb 2, 2012 5:14 PM EST up reply actions

Oh no

I’m trading Asante in mine too, I just think there should be at least a mid-level FA or a CB drafted higher. It is nitpicky I admit.

With explanations where due...

Resign:
Evan Mathis
Derek Landri
Antonio Dixon
King Dunlap
Desean Jackson (either a deal of 4 yrs worth anywhere between 5-7.5 million, or the more likely scenario, franchise tag)
let all others walk

FA signings: (what should happen, not necessarily what will, but still staying realistic)
1: David Hawthorne MLB…OR…Dan Connor MLB (strongly believe we will pursue these two. Falcons wont let Lofton go, same deal with Jackson with the Browns. To me personally, Connor seems more likely, because Hawthorne is a big part of Seattle rebuilding their D, so I just think Connor will be easier and possibly cheaper to sign)
2: Tyvon Branch S…OR Laron Landry S (Branch is a solid young safety, making our S better, and Landry we all know about since we play the Skins twice a year. Not sure if either Oakland or Washington will let these guys go however)

Trade:
Asante Samuel to Detroit for 3rd Round pick and 2013 conditional pick

Cut/Release:
Daryl Tapp (addressing backup DE’s in draft to find younger player to compliment Graham in the future)
Winston Justice
Jamaal Jackson

Draft:
1st: Luke Kuechly MLB…OR…Devon Still D
(draft Kuechly if Connor or Hawthorne don’t get signed. If one of them are signed however, Still, a very solid DT will only add to our already awesome defensive line and eventually replace Patterson)
2nd: Vinny Curry DE
(Curry replaces Tapp and is an upgrade…makes Curry and Graham dangerous backups and with Cole and Babin getting up there in age, Curry can be groomed and he and Graham can eventually replace Cole and Babin without us losing a step in pass rushing)
2nd: Jayron Hosley CB
(fast ballhawk who could give Hanson a run for his money in the slot. Needs to put on some muscle and weight, but had a lot of INT in college and could be really good and a future starter as Nnamdi is on the wrong side of 30)
3rd: Nick Foles QB…OR Kirk Cousins QB
(take whichever is there and develop them. Vick is getting older and we have a history of developing QB’s really well. Foles would be might first choice. Foles has a bigger arm which would be better suited to our , but Cousins better instincts. Both could be great after developing in our system)
3rd: Nigel Bradham OLB…OR…Audie Cole MLB…OR…Keenan Robinson OLB
(Bradham is a big physical force, and would give us another good solid player to sure up our LB’s. Also has pretty good upside, and he could be really good in a year or two. Draft Cole if we sign Hawthorne or Connor and let him develop. Robinson would serve the same purpose as Bradham if he’s not available anymore)
4th: Dwight Jones WR
(gives us the big receiver that we oh so need. With Desean and Maclin to stretch the field, Jones has pretty good hands and gives us a good red zone threat since Cooper hasn’t worked out so well. Actually has pretty decent speed himself, therefore fitting into our offense very well. Probably better than Avant also and could be our #3 to start the season)
4th: James Brown OT
(Showed up well at the Senior Bowl and could be groomed to eventually take over considering Peters and Herremans are getting older)
5th: Bernard Pierce RB
(keeping him at home considering he went to Temple. Listed at 6’1 218, he’s a downhill running bigger back that could help us in the red zone. Pierce could be used more for the short yardage 3rd or 4th down conversions and in goal line packages. Along with Jones, our red zone woes aren’t as big of a problem)
6th: Nate Potter OT
(another OL to fill the void getting rid of Jackson and Justice creates)
6th: Best available
6th: Best available

Sorry if this is kinda messy. It should be able to be read well enough. But like I said, these are my honest thoughts, and if I were part of the organization, this is the exact way that I would do things. Looking forward to April.

Final thought: well done djackfan10…I have been seeing a bunch of mocks since the end of the season, and it was getting a little old, although I was thinking of doing one myself. Either way dude, great idea posting this.

Hawthorne is a big part of Seattle rebuilding their D

Actually (be surprised) Hawthorne may be more likely than Connor actually because from what I’ve been reading, the Hawks wanna get quicker at LB and are more than willing to let Hawthorne walk and let KJ Wright fill in his position. So Hawthorne may not be outta the question at all.

appreciate the insight…wasn’t aware that the Hawks were thinking that way. If that is the case though, Id love to scoop up Hawthorne. Can kinda understand where Seattle is coming from, Wright is gonna be a very good player I think. Kinda ironic though…us possibly getting Hawthorne because Seattle wants to get quicker at linebacker, when that’s the exact reason for our LB struggles…we were too focused on having quick LB’s instead of having a balanced (some quick, some run stuffing/hard hitting LB’s)unit. Were hopefully finally get the hint, and sign Hawthorne, while Seattle can do what we tried, and possibly have the same issues we did….undersized high motor, quick LB’s that cant tackle. I just think it’s a little ironic.

Another shot

Resign:

Evan Mathis

Trade Asante Samuel to Detroit for 3rd round pick (87)

Free Agency

Jason Jones (Titans) – good fit for Washburn’s scheme
Jeremy Zuttah (Bucs) – versatile can backup Watkins & Kelce
EJ Henderson (Vikings) – also thought Hawthorne or Manny Lawson but think Henderson would be a great pick up

Draft

1st: Luke Kuechley, LB, Boston College
No matter what we get in FA we need a long term answer at linebacker
2nd: Stephen Gilmore, CB, South Carolina
With Asante gone we need another corner, I like Gilmore’s size just more than Boykin
2nd: Vinny Curry, DE, Marshall
Need to get younger at DE, Curry looks a excellent answer
3rd: Brandon Moseley, OT, Auburn
Really like his fight, could be a replacement for Herremans at RT in a year or two
3rd: Senio Kelemete, OG, Washington
Got a feeling he may end up going higher but as of now would be a great pick up to back up and eventually replace Mathis. Ankle may be a bit of a concern.
4th: Marvin McNutt, WR, Iowa
With Jackson resigned, the big offensive need is a red zone threat – considered Dwight Jones in the 3rd but good options on the O-line pushed me towards McNutt
4th: Audie Cole, LB, North Carolina
Like Kelemete think he might go earlier but if he’s there in the 4th he’d be great value
5th: BJ Coleman, QB, Tennessee
Considered Kirk Cousins and would be quite happy if we picked him but Coleman could be a project QB with future starting potential. If we don’t take a QB then maybe Josh Johnson in FA
6th: William Vlachos, C, Alabama
6th: Chris Rainey, RB, Florida
Might be gone, but could equally be taken in the 5th
6th: Damian Jackson, FS, Mississippi

Re-sign

Evan Mathis
Derek Landri
King Dunlap

Free Agency Additions

Manny Lawson LB – Bengals or EJ Henderson – Minnesota ILB

Veteran line backer to help younger crew develop

Jason Jones – Tennessee DT

Great fit with Washburn’s wide 9, would be an excellent pick up

Jeremy Zuttah – Tampa Bay RG

Versatile player who could back-up Watkins or Kelce and even be functional at LG

Marques Colston – New Orleans WR

Fulfils need for a bigger wide receiver & a replacement for Jackson from Day 1

Draft

1st Round

15 – Kendall Wright WR Baylor

With Jackson gone, a downfield threat will become a major priority, Colston would give us the taller wideout threat we need so Wright would make sense here

2nd Round

45 – Stephen Gilmore, CB, South Carolina

Good size, quality CB who would challenge DRC from this year

47 – Vinny Curry DE Marshall

Still think Curry is the way to go here.

3rd Round

79 – Vontaze Burflict LB Michigan

Will drop due to the personal and temperament questions, if we pick up a veteran (Henderson, Lawson, Fletcher) and put them in beside him could be an excellent pick up

87 (from Detroit) – DaJohn Harris DT Southern California

Could be used rotationally with Jones, Landri and Patterson initially with long term starter potential

4th Round

104 (from Tampa Bay) – Lucas Nix OG Pittsburgh

Back-up for Mathis, potential to be long term starter at guard on one side or the other

111 – Audie Cole OLB North Carolina State

5th Round

143 – Markus Zusevics OT Iowa

6th Round – impossible to tell but best guess would be

175 – William Vlachos C Alabama

185 – Chris Rainey RB Florida

192 – Damian Jackson FS Mississippi

No way we go TE that high. That is the least or our needs right now. Hasselbeck won’t come here to be a third string. He’d retire first, he’s a competitor, he’ll go somewhere he has a chance to compete for a starting spot. Also WR in the first 2 rounds? Really?

Not only that, but he also has us retaining DeSean AND signing Reggie Wayne. So basically, “we’re going to have eight wide receivers on the team”.

First I’ll Tag and trade Desean to Indy for their 2nd round pick. They will need some help since their losing Wayne and have a rookie QB. They will also have the cap room to afford him. I’ll also trade Asante to the Lions for their 2nd round pick. Resign Mathis, Landri and Dixon.
F.A moves: Sign Tolbert from Chargers.
Try to sign any of these LB’s: Hawthorne, D’quell, Tulloch, or Lofton.
Sign Landry
Sign Ben Grubbs
Sign Josh Johnson
Draft: Trade back with Cleveland for their 22nd pick and 2012 2nd round pick

Ist round : 22nd pick……..Vontaze Burfict. ( Ravens, Steelers or Giants won’t let him slip by)

2nd round: 34th pick……. Mohamed Sanu (WO)

2nd round: 37th pick…….Fletcher Cox (DT)

2nd round: 41 pick……..Jared Crick (DT)

2nd round:47th pick…….Vinny Curry (DE)

2nd round: 51 pick…….Ronnell Lewis (LB)

3rd round: Ladarius Green (TE)

4th round: Donte Paige Moss (DE)

4th round: Joe Adams

5th, 6th and 7 picks dont really care about

I guess I'll play

Re-sign

Darryl Tapp (restructures)
Antonio Dixon (slapped with 1st round tender)
King Dunlap
Derek Landri
Evan Mathis
Owen Schmitt (an upgrade isn’t needed. he is effective at what he does and serves the purpose)

Cuts/Lets Walk
Winston Justice (this is Mudds line, Andy gets one either King or Winston)
DeSean Jackson (Can’t franchise and risk being stuck with 9.5 mil pay out)
Vince Young
Steve Smith (re-injuring his knee made this decision)
Juqua Parker (thanks for the service)
Ronnie Brown
Victor Abiamiri (I expect him to get healthy and become beastly now that he is gone)

Trade

Asante Samuel to New Orleans for their 2nd round (59) (This is close enough to a third round pick that it works value wise and the Saints pass defense was atrocious this year, 30th. They have a closing window so a big upgrade at CB makes sense)

Jamaal Jackson to Kansas City Chiefs for their 6th round (172) (This is a do right by Jamaal move from Andy. KC has no reason not to be able to take the west again with a healthy QB and RB. Their center is old and eh so getting even a little younger will help.)

Free Agents

Sign MLB Dan Connor ( juggled between him, Hawthorne and Henderson but this seems a likely move. He is young, follows in the prototypical Eagles size for LB’s, 231 lbs on a 6ft 2 frame, and is under the radar.)

Sign WR Mario Manningham (not sexy but a pick up I could see Andy and Marty making. If Maclin is the 1 after DeSean goes, Mario can play the 2 well)

Sign RB Jerious Norwood (In the mold of what Andy likes. Speedy and a decent pass catcher. More for a competition standpoint)

1st Round Pick DT Devon Stills (does this make sense? not really but since when does that stop Andy? Jenkins is over 30, Patterson has health issues, and Landri has already been erroneously cut once.)
1st round pick via the Pittsburgh Steelers OLB Zach Brown (a LB in round 1? we need one and he fits the bill. We need to get over the Giants and Pittsburgh can probably get Donta Hightower somewhere in round 2)
2nd Round Pick traded to Pittsburgh for round 1
2nd round pick via Arizona Cardinals WR Joe Adams (takes care of both WR and KR)
2nd Round Pick via the New Orleans Saints traded to Pittsburgh for round 1
3rd Round Pick DE Cam Johnson (add to the rotation)
4th Round PIck S George Iloka (goes against normal type of safety but perhaps can help with the running game)
5th Round Pick TE Michael Egnew (Andy prefers 3 TE’s and this guy can help)
5th round via Cincinnatti Bengals (149) C William Vlachos
6th round pick via the Kansas City Chiefs (traded to Bengals for 5th round pick)
6th Round Pick (traded to bengals for 5th round pick)
6th Round Pick via the Denver Broncos QB Case Keenum (I know I don’t like it either but it seems a reasonable pick from Andy)
6th Round Pick via the New England Patriots (traded to an unknown team for a 7th this year and a 5th next year)
7th round pick- OLB Adrian Robinson (He’s a Temple product and Andy really scouts the area)

Re-sign:
Landri, Kinglap, & Dixon. Let the rest walk.

Trade:
Asante for 3rd round pick or player that may serves us great value.

Draft:
1. ILB Kuechly but i think Reid might grab the OT from Stanford…Johnathan Martin.
2. WR Tommy Streeter or WR Joe Adams…I think Streeter is solid but was hidden behind unconsistent QB play.
2. DE Jared Crick or if we grab Luechly in the 1st round we grab OT Mike Adams
3. OLB Sean Spence….If he is still on the board if not then we grab OG Kevin Zeitler.
i dont know the rest…

Been thinking about this for a long time

Resign:
Antonio Dixon- Strong backup DT
King Dunalp- Best backup OL we have
Derek Landri- Looked really good at times last year
Evan Mathis- One of the best G’s in the NFL last year.
Steve Smith- Looked awful this year but he showed talent before and given a year to recover could help us in the red zone.
Desean Jackson- See Below

Cut:
Darryl Tapp- Too many guys for him to make the money hes projected to make.
Jammal Jackson- Kelce took over his role and Jackson was a pure class act gotta respect people like that but too much money for a backup C.
Chad Hall (sorry chad)- Not good enough
Winston Justice- Not good enough.

The Desean Dilemma
I’ve went back and forth with this for a while but I’ve decided that we should resign Desean providing he backs off his ridiculous offer. I think the eagles wont sign him right away and let him test the water however in the end no one will want to pay him what he wants and he comes back to the eagles.

Free Agency:
David Hawthorne- We’re not getting Lofton Atlanta is going to lock him up long term for sure. Hawthorne, however is far from a consolation prize and with him falling out of favor in Seattle is very likely IMHO.
Le’Ron McClain- A big time FB that can help with short yardage situations. Better than Schmitt in most regards.
Jason Jones- Was a beast under Washburn and pairing him with Cullen will help both the passing and rushing D.
Trent Edwards- Veteran QB who is a solid backup and can compete with Kafka.

Trades:
Asante Samuel and third round pick to Cincinnati for first round pick #21.

Draft:
Round 1: Michael Floyd and Zach Brown. Despite resigning Desean the eagles draft a play making WR in Floyd that also has great size for the red zone. Having addressed MLB in Free Agency the eagles trade back into the first round to jump Detroit and the Giants and snag this talented OLB.
Round 2: Jared Crick and George Iloka. Crick is a DT/DE that fits great in Washburns system and Iloka is a big safety that could develop into a great player.
Round 4- LaMichael James and Ladarius Green
Round 5- Lucas Nix G/T
Round 6- Cody Johnson FB
Round 6- Derek Wolfe DT
Round 6- William Vlachos C

2012 Depth Chart
QB- Vick, Edwards, Kafka
RB- McCoy, Lewis, James
FB- McClain, Johnson
WR- Jackson, Maclin, Floyd, Avant, Cooper, Smith
TE- Celek, Harbor, Green
T- Peters, Heremenes, Dunlap, Nix
G- Mathis, Watkins, Nix
C- Kelce
DE- Babin, Cole, Hunt, Graham, Crick
DT- Jenkins, Jones, Paterson, Dixion, Landri, Wolfe
LB- Hawthorne, Brown, Rolle, Matthews, Fokou, Chaney
CB- Nnamdi, DRC, Hanson, Marsh
S- Coleman, Allen, Jarrett, Ilokaa

This team can beat you throwing to 3 dangerous WRs and a solid TE or they can beat you with pro-bowl RB Lesean "Shady" McCoy. Defensively they have 4 dominant players starting in Cole, Jenkins, Jones and Babin with good depth coming off the bench. The LBs have been fixed by adding Hawthorne in the middle and Brown on the outside. The secondary is the only weakness if there are any but with Nnamdi and DRC manning the outside and Todd Bowles coaching them I’m not that worried. Heres to the future Super Bowl Champion Eagles

Thoughts?

Floyd: Big frame at 6-3 and has good speed. In the NFL you really need 3 solid WRs (packers, saints and giants even Pats if you include both TEs) and Floyd also should help in the Red Zone.

Desean: Im really going back and forth on this but I think he will drop his offer enough after realizing what the rest of the league thinks of him.

Smith: He was god awful this year and no one is going to want him. He once was good and I think for how cheap he’ll be its worth it.

So you tell me, are you a Minion and are you going to pile on, or are you an individual and are you going to STFU?

Lesson learned: if you don’t agree with IG, you are not an individual. …wait.

And here the thing: no one likes you. That is why D-Jack made that “shun” rule in the eternal thread, because everyone really do not want your stupid antics of stalking people and insulting them at every turn.

And if you’re going to get butthurt over getting disliked, then don’t troll. Ever since you came back from that long gap of not posting, you have been doing nothing but troll people. Jason lets many people advertise their blogs on here, I think he’d rather see us all succeed and all that jazz than say “no you need to pull in your own base of readers” also it’s not like I won’t ever return here if I read some on another Eagles fan site.

Now Iggle, I do realize that d-jackfan10 is a young kid who carries nothing more than a big bark, but don’t let that get to you. Just let shit go and stop with all the nonsense.

excellent, but optimistic

might have to throw in a 4th with DeSean to get the #34 and you won’t get anything for Justice. The Eagles should offer him near the Veteran minimum especially if they can’t keep Dunlap. The browns will need more than the 15th for the 22 and 36. They might take our 99 (4th from TB). I’d also take Kuechly or hightower before burfict if they were there but as is this would be an amazing haul.

by savant on Feb 7, 2012 10:02 PM EST up reply actions

First round pick #15 -Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame IMO our offense was more of a problem than the defense. while the turnovers should even out some this year, we need to have another offensive threat. I feel this way for a couple of reasons the biggest is regardless if we keep Jackson between him and Vick they miss games due to injury. We need to be able to weather those games by having more offensive threats. just ask the patriots if they would like to have had someone other than Hernandez and Welker to go to. I feel Floyd will help there and also with keeping the offense going instead of bogging down. I would also be ok with a DL if they either take care of getting another offensive threat through F/A or with one of there second round picks.

Second round pick # 46 Bobby Wagner, LB, Utah State. This is based on my opinion that the best way to upgrade our MLB is through F/A. That being said we still need help at LB. I would not mind DL if they go for a WR with there first pick.

Second round pick # 51 Chase Minnifield, CB/KR, Virginia. Regardless if Asante is back we still could use some DB help with both the direction the league is heading and the age of a couple of our CB he could be very helpful plus he has been reported to be a good kick returner.

Third round pick # 77 Billy Winn, DE/DT, Boise State. From what I read Billy Winn could be a good fit in Washburns system. If they have not taken a WR yet I would say this could be a good spot along with maybe picking up a back up QB.

4 th round pick # 114 Ben Jones, C, Georgia. Already knows our new strength conditioning coach so you have some continuity there. Could use a back up to Kelce. Also a LB od DB could be a good fit here.

After the 4th round I have not found the info I was looking for to make a informed guess.

Alright.

So I wanted the team to get more physical. That’s the goal of this mock draft.

The Eagles Re-Sign:
Antonio Dixon
King Dunlap
Derek Landri
Evan Mathis
Owen Schmitt

The Eagles Cut:
Jamaal Jackson
Winston Justice

The Eagles trade Asante Samuel to the Detroit Lions for their 3rd round pick.

The Eagles sign Ted Ginn Jr
-Probably the second best return man in the NFL. He can really flip the field and that is something the Eagles lacked last year. He’s scored on 6 returns in his career and the Eagles should be thrilled to snag him away from the 49ers.

The Eagles sign Joe Mays
-Truly one of my favorite players and I really hope the Eagles have the good sense to bring him back. Joe Mays, as you remember, is a pocket hercules type player who is ROCKED UP. He hits like a freight train and he is an extremely good player when he’s allowed to play downhill and sniff out the run. He has good instincts, he can take on blocks, he is a very good tackler, he can play special teams and he is super feisty and energetic. He probably wouldn’t play 3 downs but we wouldn’t need him to, we’ve got a nice set of nickel linebackers.

The Eagles sign Blake Costanzo
-The 49ers special teams phenom jumps ship and signs with the Eagles. Costanzo is a “culture carrier” guy who brings his lunch pail to work. He is super energetic and hard working. He was a driving force behind the 49ers special teams unit. Could you imagine him and Colt Anderson on the same special teams unit? Yikes.

The Eagles sign Pat Sims
The Eagles sign Trent Edwards
The Eagles sign Dan Connor

1 – Michael Floyd WR Notre Dame
-If you’re looking for a physical wide receiver, Floyd is the way to go. He’s physical on every level of the field and he coud be one hell of a blocker. He’s got a great catching radius. He’s got great hands. He has great concentration. He does a fantastic job adjusting to the ball. And he is extremely strong after the catch. He’s a receiver cut from the Larry Fitzgerald and Hakeem Nicks mold. Corners are going to have a rough time handling Floyd the same way they did DeSean.

2 (via Arizona Cardinals) – Leonard Johnson CB Iowa State
-Leonard Johnson is the second most physical corner in the draft behind Dre Kirkpatrick. Johnson is a hyper-competitive and super-physical corner who backs down from no one. He has great quickness and fluidity. He will walk up and pop anyone and he isn’t afraid to toe the line a little bit. His physicality actually has to be reigned in. The comparison that Mike Mayock made was Brandon Flowers and I think that is a great comparison; they’re similarly sized and they have a similar nasty disposition.

2 – Harrison Smith S Notre Dame
-For most of my defensive back knowledge, I refer to Mike Mayock who is truly fantastic. So, I defer to Mr. Mayock.

“I think he is one of the best safeties in the country and I thought he had a great year this year,” said Mayock. “He didn’t have seven interceptions like he did the year before, but keep in mind I think three of them came against [Miami]. This year he made a bunch of plays on the ball, he tackled extremely well. He is the leader of the secondary. He is one of the smartest kids I think I’ve met as far as understanding the game of football and I think he’ll be surprisingly athletic when they test him at the combine, so I’d be really surprised if he didn’t go in the first two rounds.”

I watched some of Harrison Smith and I picked out some of the same things. He’s really instinctive and if you listen to him talk, you can tell that he is a really smart, team oriented player. At worst I see him as a back-up strong safety who can play special teams. I saw him throwing his body around and jumping into piles and I was sold. He’s physical, big and smart. He’s exactly what we need. Sign him up.

3 – Joe Adams WR Arkansas
-With DeSean Jackson leaving the Eagles could use another dynamic receiver like Joe Adams. Personally, I love Adams and I think he could be even better than DeSean in time. Joe Adams is stronger and more physical while being similarly quick and has similar vision in the open field. He is an electric returner and receiver. I think he could rack up all-purpose yardage and if you get him the ball he’ll do good things.

3 (via Detroit Lions) – Josh Kaddu LB Oregon
-Josh Kaddu just needs polish. He is a 6’3" and 235 pound SLB prospect with 33" arms. He can run, hit and blitz. Just polish him up and you could finally have a real SLB on our hands.

4 (via Tampa Bay) – Mychal Kendricks LB Cal
-I like Joe Mays so I like Mychal Kendricks. He’s a high energy linebacker who will hit you in the mouth over and over. He was highly productive and cerebral in college and I think he’s really under the radar as a draft prospect. He’s 5’11" and 240 pounds and he played all over the Cal defense, he played OLB and ILB. Gimme.

4 – David Molk C Michigan
-Experienced, fundamentally sound, athletic and intense? Howard Mudd is going to love this guy. He can play center or guard in Mudd’s scheme and he was drafted to replace Jamaal Jackson. David Molk is exactly the type of player that Howard Mudd loves.

5 – Akiem Hicks DT Canada
-Hicks is a freak athlete, he is big, fast and strong. Sign him up. Lets see what Jim Washburn can do with him.

6 – Lennon Creer RB LA Tech
-THE running-back sleeper in my mind. He’s big at 5’11" and 220 pounds. He is athletic enough to reach the perimeter. He can catch the ball. He has good vision. And he runs hard as hell. He really reminds me of Arian Foster.

6 (via Denver) – Olivier Vernon DE Miami
-A round 1 talent that produced like an UDFA. Vernon has the talent, he just needs to be more productive. We’ll see what Jim Washburn can do.

6 (via New England) – Desmond Wynn OG Rutgers
-Looks like a tight end, he is really athletic and he should fit in well in Howard Mudd’s scheme.

QB: Vick / Kafka / Edwards
RB: McCoy / Lewis / Creer
FB: Schmitt
WR: Maclin / Floyd / Avant / Adams / Ginn Jr
TE: Celek / Harbor
LT: Peters / Dunlap
LG: Mathis / Vandervelde
C: Kelce / Molk
RG: Watkins / Taylor
RT: Herremans

LE: Babin / Graham / Vernon
DT: Jenkins / Landri
DT: Patterson / Sims
RE: Cole / Tapp / Hunt
SLB: Connor / Kaddu
MLB: Mays / Matthews / Kendrick
WLB: Rolle / Costanzo
CB: Asomugha / Rodgers-Cromartie / Johnson / Marsh / Hughes

Not a fan of this at all. The LBs arent much better with Connor and Mays Floyd isnt replacing Desean. Not sure how this team is much better than what we have now.

You don’t think Connor and Mays are better than what we’ve got? I can’t help you there. You’re living in a dream land if you think any of our linebackers are as good as Connor or Mays.

And I think you overestimate DeSean Jackson. Dude sucks. Bad hands. Bad routes. Bad attitude. Selfish. Lazy. Scared of contact. Useless on short and intermediate stuff. Useless in the red-zone. The only thing he does well is run fast. I think Floyd would be an upgrade right away.

while I like the signing of Connor

and that is actually who I have the Eagles going for in my Mock, I still do not like Mays. he was not effective when he was here and I don’t see a reason why he would be any different when he comes back. Denver just seems to work for him.

I said arent much better. I watched Dan Connor throughout college and while he’s definitely better than Casey I would much rather have Lofton, Tulloch, Jackson or Hawthrone. As for Joe Mays, I dont buy his recent success 100% but of course both of them are better all Im saying is im not sure how much better they are (especially when comparing them with the guys available. As for Floyd vs Desean, I think a lot of people are forgeting how much of a playmaker Desean was before this contract issue started. He was one of the scariest players in the open field to bring down. Desean also was very good on slants and drags so I think calling him useless is unfair. He was awful this year and his attitude was pitful to say the least however, to be fine to him hes a small WRs with 2 concussions and was way underpaid. He handle it wrong no doubt but I think we need to remember more than just last year.

by Mr.electric10 on Feb 7, 2012 10:28 PM EST up reply actions

Name one instance where DeSean did anything on a slant or a drag outside of the Kansas City game. I hate DeSean, I hope he leaves and I hope that his career fizzles out and he is left for broke because he is a moron.

I’m not as down on Jackson as you are, but I am not sure how much I care how much about resigning him. I’ll be pissed if we pay him a lot, and do not want us to tag him. His big play ability is enticing but I soured on him when he copped an attitude this year.

I agree 100% with you that we need to get more physical. I’d say that we need to bring in one or two physical receivers regardless of whether we keep Jackson, so if that is the case then letting him walk may be the thing to do.

Go Eagles!

by MRPH on Feb 8, 2012 6:49 AM EST up reply actions

I like this better

I don’t like Harrison Smith though. I watched A LOT of Notre Dame and Harrison Smith is not an upgrade on what we already have here. Its hard to question Mayock’s opinion though, I just don’t see it as an upgrade. I think you could slide a LB in there or even BPA if you’re banking on another solid ST player in round 2.

And I don’t like Joe Mays either. He might be a good player now, but we didn’t use him right the first time, it’s not a high-reward move.

But I dont have any issues with the rest.

After putting in some time watching college football, watching video and of course knowing the Eagles fairly well. I have compiled what I think would be the best course of action for the Eagles for the off-season.

We all the know the Eagles need to address the following:
1. Linebacker
2. Safety
3. Asante Samuel
4. DeSean Jackson

With that said; I unveil to you my moves. Andy, Howie, Jeff, Joe- if you read this; I’m available to take some vacation for the draft or I’m sure my company will bill me out as a consultant happily.

RE-SIGN:
DeSean Jackson (franchise tag and trade)- we can’t welcome him back and unfortunately can’t get superstar value. He is an incredible talent, but I think a mid-second rounder is the best offer

Derek Landri- he played his heart out on every play. His effort showed and he was legitimately the 2nd best DT on the team. Other option is to re-unite DT Albert Haynesworth

Antonio Dixon- he played great before his injury and should come back to good form. Other option is bringing back DT Albert Haynesworth

Evan Mathis- this is not an option. He did a wonderful job.

TRADES:
Asante Samuel (3rd rounder)- we are going to use his money to sign the majority of the FA pool

DeSean Jackson (2nd rounder)- see above

2ndand 4th rounder for two 3rd rounders

FREE AGENCY:
LB- Stephen Tulloch- he specializes as MLB in the wide-9 scheme. He played in Tennessee and Detroit

QB- Brady Quinn (competes for 2nd/3rd string)- brings in a QB we can work with in the West Coast System

LB- Manny Lawson- he is a much needed upgrade for our sub-par LB core

WR- Dwayne Bowe- he brings a red-zone threat and has great strength/ability

DRAFT:
1st- Mark Barron, S- brings in a young, talented safety who played in an NFL style defense

2nd- Chandler Jones, DE- at his current weight he projects to be a Trent Cole sized DE

2nd- Brandon Boykin, CB- provides a nickel corner for aging Joselio

2nd- TRADED (DeSean Jackson trade)

3rd- Joe Adams, WR- this guy is on everyone’s radar. He’s a small guy with great speed

3rd- Bernard Pierce, RB- gives the Eagles a 220 pound RB that is a pounder with speed

3rd- Keenan Robinson, LB- (Asante Samuel trade)- gives the Eagles some talented youth

3rd- Chris Rainey, WR/RB/KR/PR (from trade above for 2nd/4th)- This guy does it all

4th- TRADED

4th- Nate Potter, OG/OT- provides a good OL backup/future star

5th- Matt Reynolds, OG/OT- provides a good OL backup/future star

6th- Antuanne Kerr, TE/FB- superb blocker and decent pass catcher

6th- Kellen Moore, QB- fights for 3rd string with Quinn and Kafka

6th- Danny Trevathan, LB- fights for Keenan Clayton’s spot

So our 53 man roster would be:

Quarterback:
Mike Vick
Brady Quinn (FREE AGENT)
Mike Kafka

Running back:
LeSean McCoy
Dion Lewis
Bernard Pierce (DRAFT)

Fullback:
Stanley Havili

Wide Receiver:
Jeremy Maclin
Dwayne Bowe (FREE AGENT)
Jason Avant
Joe Adams (DRAFT)
Chris Rainey (DRAFT)- also can play RB/KR/PR

Tight End:
Brent Celek
Clay Harbor
Antuanne Kerr (DRAFT)- can also play FB
