With just over half the season in the books, I thought it would be a good time to have a check on the Eagles penalty leaders. If you had to guess the leader so far this season you'd probably have picked someone on the offensive line and you'd almost be right... O-lineman do make up 2 of the 3 top spots, but DRC is actually your team leader in penalties for the season (if you use yards as a tiebreaker).
His flags have been typical for corners: 4 pass intereferences, a few illegal contacts and defensive holdings and an unnecessary roughness call. While he's struggled in that department, it is worth noting that he's at least started all 9 games.
Demetress Bell has only started 5 games (appeared in 8) and yet has equaled DRC's penalty haul for the season. Offensive lineman will usually lead your team in penalties, but Bell is certainly racking them up at a quick pace. Even more concerning is the way he's getting the penalties. Holding is obviously a killer, but its also kind of what offensive lineman do. You can at least expect some of it... But false starts are just mental errors and account for 5 of Bell's 9 flags on the year.
Bell also leads the team with 6 "stalled drives," which is a count of how many times the team doesn't score or earn another 1st down after a penalty
King Dunlap has also only started 5 games this year and is averaging a flag per start. He has no false starts this season and all of his flags have been holding or illegal use of hands.
Note that in the table count includes declined penalties, but the declined ones are broken out as well.
