Eagles vs Cowboys final score: Michael Vick injured as Eagles lose 38-23

Michael Vick was knocked out of the game with a concussion and the Eagles were blown out 38-23 at the Linc

The Eagles suffered yet another total meltdown late as they fell to the rival Cowboys 38-23 at Lincoln Financial Field. With the loss the Eagles fall to 3-6 and into the basement of the NFC East. It marks the team's 5th straight loss, the first time they've ever lost 5 in a row during the Andy Reid era.

Things started off relatively well for the Eagles, who took the opening kick and went on a 10 play 81 yard drive that was capped off with a very impressive Riley Cooper catch on a Michael Vick fade pass. Unfortunately, the Eagles defense immediately surrendered an 80 yard drive of their own that ended up with a Cowboys TD.

The teams generally played each other to a standstill until late in the 2nd quarter when Michael Vick was knocked down on a seemingly innocuous play, but his helmet apparently hit him in the eye. He was eventually taken into the locker room and was diagnosed with a concussion. Nick Foles came in to a giant ovation from the Lincoln Financial Field crowd, but only managed a trio of 3 and outs before the half.

Coming out after the half however, Foles and the Eagles offense really started to hum. On the Eagles 1st 3rd quarter possession Foles hit a wide open Jeremy Maclin for a 44 yard TD pass that really ignited the crowd. Maclin simply wasn't covered on the play and the throw was an easy one for Foles to make, but what was really impressive was the way he stood in the pocket and kept his eyes downfield. Rookie Bryce Brown deserves some credit as well as he made a key block to pick up a blitz and gave Foles plenty of time of the play.

By the way, you want to stump anyone with a bit Foles related trivia? He is the first Eagles rookie to throw a TD since... Brian Westbrook in 2004.

Foles would then lead the Eagles on yet another scoring drive that was limited to a FG thanks to 2 King Dunlap penalties in the red zone. It was 17-10 Eagles and everything was looking great.

Then, Dallas scored 3 straight TDs in 2:35 seconds.

Tony Romo hit Dez Bryant for a 30 yard TD at the very end of the 3rd quarter. The Eagles punt on the next possession and Dwayne Harris returns it 70 yards for a TD. On the very next drive Nick Foles throws behind DeSean Jackson on a slant, who bobbles the ball, it bounces to Brandon Carr, who of course returns it for a TD. Just like that it was 31-17 and the Eagles go from leading a game with tons of momentum to getting blown out.

And that's really been very typical of the Eagles season so far. How many games have been completely upended by bonehead mistakes, big turnovers or generally just inexplicable play? Too many is the answer and ultimately those disasters will likely lead to the end of the Andy Reid era here in Philadelphia. They even missed an extra point in this game. It really has become a farce.

The big story going forward here though, is obviously the health of Michael Vick. He was diagnosed with a concussion, so he'll need to go through the full concussion protocol this week. At this point, the Eagles would need to literally run the table to go 10-6 and have any hope at a playoff spot. If it wasn't painfully obvious to you before today, it should be now... that's not happening.
