The Eagles suffered yet another total meltdown late as they fell to the rival Cowboys 38-23 at Lincoln Financial Field. With the loss the Eagles fall to 3-6 and into the basement of the NFC East. It marks the team's 5th straight loss, the first time they've ever lost 5 in a row during the Andy Reid era.
Things started off relatively well for the Eagles, who took the opening kick and went on a 10 play 81 yard drive that was capped off with a very impressive Riley Cooper catch on a Michael Vick fade pass. Unfortunately, the Eagles defense immediately surrendered an 80 yard drive of their own that ended up with a Cowboys TD.
The teams generally played each other to a standstill until late in the 2nd quarter when Michael Vick was knocked down on a seemingly innocuous play, but his helmet apparently hit him in the eye. He was eventually taken into the locker room and was diagnosed with a concussion. Nick Foles came in to a giant ovation from the Lincoln Financial Field crowd, but only managed a trio of 3 and outs before the half.
Coming out after the half however, Foles and the Eagles offense really started to hum. On the Eagles 1st 3rd quarter possession Foles hit a wide open Jeremy Maclin for a 44 yard TD pass that really ignited the crowd. Maclin simply wasn't covered on the play and the throw was an easy one for Foles to make, but what was really impressive was the way he stood in the pocket and kept his eyes downfield. Rookie Bryce Brown deserves some credit as well as he made a key block to pick up a blitz and gave Foles plenty of time of the play.
By the way, you want to stump anyone with a bit Foles related trivia? He is the first Eagles rookie to throw a TD since... Brian Westbrook in 2004.
