Philadelphia Eagles depth chart: Fletcher Cox takes over starting job

Howard Smith-US PRESSWIRE

The Eagles 2012 first round pick has been paying immediate dividends this season. This week, he was rewarded with a promotion to a starting role.

Despite being just a rookie, Fletcher Cox has arguably already been the Eagles best defensive lineman in 2012 and it seemed like just a matter of time before he took the starting DT job from Derek Landri. That time is now.

A quick peek at the Eagles updated depth chart has Cox now head of Landri as a starter alongside Cullen Jenkins. Cox was already starting to get more snaps than Landri, so for intents and purposes he was the first stringer already, but for it to become official to see him get his first start this Monday night has be exciting for the youngster.

For all the things have gone wrong or been disappointing about this season, the Eagles first round pick is certainly not one of them.

Elsewhere on the depth chart there isn't a lot of change. As we said yesterday, Michael Vick is still the starter at QB. Curiously, Damaris Johnson is still listed as the #1 punt returner despite the fact that Mardy Gilyard has clearly had that job for the past 2 weeks. Gilyard did injure his hamstring last week, so there's a chance we could see Johnson back in that role Monday night.

Otherwise, King Dunlap is back ahead of Demetress Bell at LT and Danny Watkins hasn't been passed by Dennis Kelly after his solid showing last week. Jason Babin remains ahead of Brandon Graham at LDE, but last week played only 2 more snaps than Graham.
