I'm here with a different disposition than most of you right now, but I'm not here to pour salt in your wounds. During this season I've really discovered all the various SB Nation blogs and I like to read them before and after the game to see the REAL fan reactions instead of the crap that ends up bubbling up to ESPN. I've read some of the posts/comments since and I'm here to try and talk some of you guys off the ledge.
1. The Eagles aren't dead yet: When they showed the Eagles' upcoming schedule I thought that y'all should win at least 3 of the 4 next games that you have. With the way the NFL is this year a streak like that will have y'all back into playoff contention. Looking at the whole schedule it wouldn't shock me if y'all ended up 10-6.
2. Y'all played scared: I know what it looks like when a team plays scared. The Falcons got their asses kicked in the playoffs last year because we played scared. Roddy even mentioned that our offensive coaching staff(which is gone now, thank God) felt that our line couldn't block the Giants so we didn't even try and then we couldn't move the ball on them. We played scared and got our asses kicked. The same thing happened to the Eagles today.
It was obvious that the main goal for the Eagles(especially Vick) was to not turn the ball over. I don't think Vick threw the ball more than 15 yards more than once. The Eagles team isn't set up to be a dink and dunk type team and Michael Vick isn't a dink and dunk type QB so playing him so conservatively is gonna go really badly unless the other team makes tons of mistakes. The Falcons(for all their various flaws) aren't a team that beats themselves so a soft gameplan like that is a bridge to nowhere.
3. Hang on to Reid: As a Falcons fan I know that good coaches are hard to find. Mike Smith set the record for most wins by a head coach today and that was only 50 wins. Bill Belichick has more than twice as many wins as the Pats head coach. The Eagles were have a few down years eventually, but y'all should ride it out. These days if you draft a QB you can be back "in the mix" really fast especially if you have pieces(and y'all do). If I were an Eagles fan I would be VERY wary of panicking and firing a good coach and ending up like the Boston Redsox(or Denver Broncos of a few years ago) where you end up setting yourself back for years after firing a coach because of a few bad seasons after many good ones.
Oh and I hope everyone who is in the path of Sandy stays safe.
