The Linc - Draft Talk, Linc Tour & The Worst Losses Of 2011

Inside The Linc: A Behind-The-Scenes Look At The Eagles' Stadium - SB Nation Philly
There's always a lively atmosphere at the Eagles' stadium--one I'd like to share with you in a behind-the-scenes look at the state-of-the-art facilities at Lincoln Financial Field.

The Ten Worst Philly Sports Losses of 2011
Hate to say it, but it's pretty undeniable—2011 was way more about the crushing losses than the inspiring wins. Disappointing regular-season performances, heartbreaking playoff no-shows, sweeps and shutouts and all that bad stuff, adding up to making '11 way more "Rolling in the Deep" than "Party Rock Anthem" for Philly pro sports fan.

Eagles fire CBs coach Johnnie Lynn
Samuel, Asmomugha and Rodgers-Cromartie, who have all had at least six interceptions in a season, combined for only six this year. It’s expected that Lynn will not be the only member of the 2011 defensive coaching staff relieved of his duties.

Iggles Blitz " Blog Archive " Eagles Draft Talk
Kuechly would be a perfect fit for the Eagles. I know some of you have doubts about his speed. Some his size. Some wonder how well he sheds blocks. As far as speed, Jamar Chaney was the fastest MLB at the Combine when he came out. Do you see that speed on gameday? Not with any consistency. Size? We think Trot and Disco Stew are normal MLBs at 260 pounds. No. Those guys are exceptions. Most MLBs are about 240. So is Luke. No college LB is great at shedding blocks. I think Kuechly is the best at it that I’ve seen this year.

Lynn firing making way for Bowles?

I hope so. I know Todd Bowles was interested in a HC/DC role but that might be exploratory interest only. I doubt Miami retains him. Hopefully he’s interested in taking a position coaching the CBs.

Bowles said he was interested in joining but I think he would take a DC job first before coming here as a secondary coach

I'm pretty sure he would rather go be a DC for another team than be a secondary coach for us

That said, I hope I’m wrong, and he could really make NA and DRC play up to their potential and hopefully get Marsh, Lindley (I think we signed him again) and whoever else we may draft to elevate their play too

Just wait until December..

Just read Tommy's article on Iggles Blitz

Two other names I hadn’t considered: Raheem Morris and Clayton Lopez, the latter of whom worked with Nnamdi and Stanford Routt in Oakland

I don’t think Lindley will make the roster next year, we still have Hanson & Hughes on the roster. Who knows he could be the DC here if Spags doesn’t come or eventually if he doesn’t find somewhere else if Reid decides to hang them up

If we take a LB in the first(which I don’t think we will) it will be Zach Brown, Reid likes athleticism in his players Brown is one of the best athletes at LB in this draft

Why not Vontaze in that case?

by EaglesAPhiA on Jan 8, 2012 6:22 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Started off as a 5th rounder in 2012 from the Browns

But after he didn’t show up for camp, that was voided and he was traded to the Broncos for an undisclosed 2013 pick.

He then went on to be one of the better run stuffers in the league…. thankfully our Run D was so great this year we didn’t need him…….

To be fair

They dealt Bunkley because he was making a lot of money and was outplayed by Antonio Dixon, who was supposed to fill that role.

You have to take that into account if you’re going to use hindsight on the deal.

It's weird because

I thought Bunkley would have exceled in the wide 9… But apparently Jim Washburn didn’t think he would

Jason B is right

Dixon outplayed him this year

We had one too many DTs this year Jenkins,Patterson,Dixon,Laws,Landi

not to mention Landri and Hardgrove and Bunkley were cut/traded

Jenkins Landri and Hardgrove ended up top 10 in PFF DT Pass Rush Productivity

so regardless we were good on DTs no matter what combo stayed or left

yeah Bunkley had 2 straight down years and they dealt him since they felt they have a good deal of depth at the position.

Turned out the Eagles were right & the Broncos got really good value for him this year.

40 SPEED VS GAME SPEED
As far as speed, Jamar Chaney was the fastest MLB at the Combine when he came out. Do you see that speed on gameday? Not with any consistency

THIS NEEDS TO BE BROUGHT UP MORE BECAUSE PPL PUT TOO MUCH INTO THE COMBINE 40 SPEED WHEN THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN 40 TIME AND GAME SPEED

by StevenKerwood on Jan 8, 2012 11:19 AM EST reply actions

I have been saying that for years

I think Maclin is like that too. He’s fast and teams respect his speed, but he’s not an elite explosive play maker that made him a top 10 drat pick projection

Lynn another scapegoat

Just like most of the positional coaches last year who got canned on defense simply because the Eagles have done a really crummy job of drafting defensively the last few years.

Marsh showed nothing this year when he played & was a minus generally on special teams coverage with a few glaring miscues. Reason Hughes got as much PT as he did. If Marsh wasn’t a 3rd round pick this year (total stretch pick that was projected 5th even 6th round on some board), I doubt he would be back. Jarrett played sparingly & when he simply looked lost.

With Samuel gone, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if the Eagles spend another 3rd-4th round pick on a CB this year in the draft since Marsh showed so little last year.

Hughes

Is more of a roster filler guy who won’t be here next year if the Eagles draft a CB with a mid-round pick.

by MG77 on Jan 8, 2012 12:23 PM EST reply actions

Luke

I’m not big on the pick in the first round. Seems like so many other players that will make an impact at that position that won’t be a reach. WR comes to mind….or simply trade down and grab best LB available like Burfict or Hightower
