LB a MUST!! Now who's better??

Any Eagles fan with half a brain could easily see that the most glaring hole on the Eagles is at the linebacker position. There have been many posts supporting that fact and I'm not trying to debate whether or not we need to draft a LB in the first or if Andy will finally do it. I'm here to debate the potential options at LB in the draft and who would provide the spark the defense desperately needs. In my opinion there are only 2 LBs that are worthy of a first round pick and they are Luke Kuechly- Boston College (the popular choice) and Vontaze Burfict- Arizona State (the right choice in my opinion).

Let's start with Kuechly. First let me say that I would love for him to be a Philadelphia Eagle. The Guy is a flat out tackling machine. He is 6-3, 237 lbs and has decent speed. His instincts and football IQ make him the most coveted LB in the draft. In three years at BC he is credited with 516 total tackle's, 293 solo tackles, 7 INT's, 2 forced fumbles and a couple of sacks. That's impressive no matter how you look at it. Watching video on him gave me mixed feelings however. From what I saw, the guy reacts quickly to what he sees (run or pass), has a good first step, sees plays before they develop and because of that, he racks up tackles. Based on that alone the guy is worth the pick. My concern or concerns, however, are he tends to over-pursue runners, which causes him to miss tackles, his ability to get off blocks must improve, and his overall attitude and fire seems to be there just not at the level of a Brian Dawkins or a Ray Lewis which is what our defense MUST have again. Check out the youtube link and form your own opinion.

Now on to Vontaze Burfict. One word comes to mind when watching video of this guy- BEAST! This guy is 6-3, 250 lbs of rage. He doesn't just hit people, he destroys them. This guy carries with him an attitude that will get him in trouble with refs at times because of his relentless style of play. But, isn't that what you want out of the anchor of the defense? This year we played defense like we played offense; with speed and finesse. No team was scarred to face our D and for good reason. A guy like Burfict will bring out the intensity and fire in every other player on D as did Dawkins. His numbers do NOT add up of those of Kuechly but his intangibles and athletic ability are far superior. With the right coaching this guy could easily be an all pro. It's time to get back to being feared and this guy immediately gives us that respect. Watch the video posted and see for yourself.
