NFL Wildcard Round Open Thread
The NFL has two games on tap for today. First up is probably the least hyped game of the weekend which is Cincinatti at Houston. That game is at 4:30 on NBC.
Then tonight at 8pm on NBC, we've got what should be an offensive show when the Lions visit the Saints. Let's talk about the games here.

Charlie got mad in class one day, and stood up with a .22 pistol
Told everybody that he couldn’t take it anymore, he was over being the victim"
the fact that these qbs are starting a playoff game is kind of sad.

I'm surprised the Bengals even made it.
Rookie QB, Rookie WR, rookie O line, Bad Coach and they let a lot of good players go.

Ravens offensive Cam Cameron is at the game scouting the Texans. I don’t know why people are sleeping on the Bengals so much. They have a very good defense and aren’t injury plagued. The Texans are on a cold streak, Yates is going to be pressured by Atkins and Dunlap all day. I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see the Bengals win.

I would.
Just because they are the Bengals. AJ Green has made a fan out of me though so I wouldn’t mind if they won.

Gives me hope about taking a small school qb in the second rd. I hope we take kellen Moore late in the draft haha.

He went to TCU, one of the best football programs in the nation. How is that “small school”?

let me rephrase
Small time football school. You can argue all you want about them being up and coming but they are still small time compared to the traditional powers.

You rephrased “small school” to “small time football school”? Lol… Very effective choice of words.

im sorry but until tcu plays in a real conference
….they will never be one of the best programs in the country. The big east doesn’t even really count and my school plays in that conference.

Dude, TCU is literally the winningest football program of all time. Stop talking.

Who have they played on a consistent basis????
by VRFC8 on Jan 7, 2012 4:54 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
I don’t like TCU, I’m a UNLV student. I’m just saying it is ridiculous to call TCU a small school, they’ve consistently finished in the top 10 over the past decade.
The Curse of Lombardi

i like tcu as well.
But they are not a big time program when you compare to the osu, lsu, Florida, auburn, bama, Oklahoma, ect.
by VRFC8 on Jan 7, 2012 4:59 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
TCU hasn’t consistently finished in the top 10 over the past decade & the reason why people call them a small school is because they don’t play in a big conference same with Boise St. TCU & Boise St. are both very good teams but that doesn’t make them big schools
The Legend
+1
TCU may have been as talented as anyone last year but its easy to get up for 2 or 3 games. For the elite programs especially in the SEC each week you need to bring your A game. TCU can afford to have an bad game and still beat the much lesser competition

They’ve been top ten at 10 separate stretches in the past 7 years.

Notre Dame isn’t in a conference at all, yet they are considered one of the best programs in the country.
by The Mad Hopper on Jan 7, 2012 4:58 PM EST up reply actions
....that is a very bad comparison for tcu
I like tcu’s program over notre dame. They are all hype.
by VRFC8 on Jan 7, 2012 5:00 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
So are some of the teams you just mentioned, such as OSU and Florida
by The Mad Hopper on Jan 7, 2012 5:01 PM EST up reply actions
stop, osu and florida have been far better programs over the
Decade!!!!!
by VRFC8 on Jan 7, 2012 5:03 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
not really look at the schools those teams play vs the teams tcu played
by VRFC8 on Jan 7, 2012 5:08 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
You’re taking away too much from TCU by judging their schedule. They win games they should, I don’t see ow that doesn’t make them one of the better programs of the decade.
by The Mad Hopper on Jan 7, 2012 5:10 PM EST up reply actions
this is why i want a college playoff.
But until there is one you have to judge a team by the teams they beat. Fact big ten and sec are better conferences than the mountain west
by VRFC8 on Jan 7, 2012 5:13 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
Yes, they are
but that doesn’t take away from what TCU has accomplished. Oh well, agree to disagree
by The Mad Hopper on Jan 7, 2012 5:16 PM EST up reply actions
i think it does to a degree
Each week the competition is at a much higher level. Schools like TCU and Boise St. have 2 or 3 tough opponents all year. Also, while without a doubt lately BSU and TCU have been better than ND, ND is an independent so they actually have a fairly difficulty schedule rather than BSU and TCU who played in poor conferences.
by Mr.electric10 on Jan 7, 2012 5:18 PM EST up reply actions
Don’t have to sell me on ND, haha. I just find it hard to take away from schools who play well in a weak conference. Look at the Eagles, hah

Meh. Maybe, but I don’t know that it would be deserved really. The guy is given a bunch of late round rookies and young guys, the unit is constantly shuffled on him… It seems pretty tough to judge Caldwell on this year.
Secondary was stocked with pro bowlers…

Seriously why the hell do teams bother returning kicks
Most the time they try to return kicks from deep in the endzone and get tackled at the 15…
Practically all decent returns get called back by penalty that puts them inside the 20 anyway.
If you drive 90 yards for a touchdown instead of 80, it pads the yardage statistics.
