DeSean will be an eagle for years to come

I am new here at bleeding green. Im a 17 year old high schooler born in NJ but raised in the city of brotherly love!!!!! I am a philly guy, I love my sixers, phillies, flyers, union, and mostly my EAGLES. I am currently living in bradenton Florida but plan on going to State College of Florida where I will study journalism and hope to work for either ESPN or the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Thats my story and right now I'm going to produce my first eagles piece. I am currently writing on liberty ballers but am eager to start writing for the eagles enjoy!

Star-divide

As we all know, DeSean is set to become a free agent and a lot of hype has been surrounding whether or not he will come back which in my opinion is a dumb question to ponder.

Life without djax isn't great as we saw when we played the cardinals. Our offense is a wreck and with no one to space the field, defenses can hammer down on the QB and force many mistakes as we've seen this year. This doesn't only affect Jackson but those around him as well.

This year was really a down one for a team labeled by the overweighted chicken eating Vince young. That thought really jinxed our season and put a chip on the eagles shoulders to play like a high profile team or be faced with the never ending criticism of sports and us philly fans. As we all know, that is no fun as people view us as the fans that booed santa.

Back to the eagles, Michael Vick was injured for some part of the season. Even that doesn't explain all that went on for the eagles this year. Vick was just not himself, throwing passes that he never usually throws, thinking too hard on simple plays, and just not relying on pure football instincts. As a fan, it was hard to watch and even though they showed flashes of what they can be: a high flying offense (top three offense to be exact), and a high caliber defense when they are all playing together.

Sadly, those stats don't always equal titles or even wins.

DeSean Jackson is a special player, we all know that. He provides pure speed and change of direction along with pretty solid hands. Not to mention the role he plays in special teams (just ask the giants!). Altogether, he is one of the most pure superstars this league has to offer that isn't a quarterback. Sure he has his bad moments and flashes of his personality, but he isn't afraid to share his feelings but knows when to stop and let it go.

If deSean is not brought back, we will lose about 75% of our offense and it will be a hell of a while before we even find a star level wideout to help propel this offense to the next level.

All in all, we need deSean as much as he needs us. Maybe even more than ever now. In my mind I do believe that deSean will be an eagle for life .

FLY EAGLES FLY!!!!!!!

It’s spelled “LEsean”

Lol, clever

But honestly, the run game tanked near the end of the season. It’s still a passing league and we need the passing game to succeed. One could argue that Desean spreading the field was the real reason the run game was so successful early on. For instance, when the Eagles ran all over the #1 Dallas run D, analysts were saying the safeties were 30 yards deep to stop the bomb to Desean… Later in the season when D’s were staying close to the line of scrimmage (see Miami game), there was nowhere to run. McCoy was getting tacked in the backfield most of the time.

I really hope Desean is brought back.

One could argue that. They’d be wrong, but they could argue it.

you really think Desean played no part in McCoy’s success in the demolition of Dallas??

by MikeCampy on Jan 5, 2012 1:43 PM EST up reply actions

A lot of receivers use up Safety time….

I think youd have a better argument saying that having Vick opens up McCoy’s running game….. but then again, so does the O-Line and the receivers. They call it a team game for a reason. Desean is not the only receiver in the league that requires deep threath attention

It’s funny how people say things like. “This receiver is great because he was playing in the shadow of Superstar X and still put up big numbers.” And then other people will say, “This receiver is overrated. He only put up big numbers becasue Superstar X was drawing double teams.” Lol So yea, it’s silly to read too much into things. It’s a team game.

But I never understood the idea that Vick helps the standard run game. If defenders need to stay closer to the LOS to guard against Vick runs, then they’re in better position to tackle the RB. And also, on a run play, once the RB gets the ball, Vick is out of the picture.

by MikeCampy on Jan 5, 2012 5:33 PM EST up reply actions

Yup.

Well what Vick does is he keeps the OLBs on the outside edge with his outside edge rushing ability, giving Shady more room to run inside …. that is the thoery anyways….

yes I agree, all he needs is just a little bit of space… but there were games where there was none (NE, MIA, 2nd NYG game). It’s not McCoy’s fault… part of it was the O-line, and part of it was the D for making McCoy their top priority . If McCoy gets just a little more space because the safeties are way downfield, then he can make the most of it.

by MikeCampy on Jan 5, 2012 5:27 PM EST up reply actions

There were a lot of up the gut runs that broke down, causing him to bounce it to the outside and pick up chunks of yardage, too.

Basically, he’s an athletic freak who we are lucky to have as an Eagle.

by teezy33 on Jan 6, 2012 6:35 PM EST up reply actions

What about all the other games McCoy dominated? If you think he is this successful because of Desean, you are dead wrong. Don’t you watch the games? Elite talent.

Vs Cardinals without Jackson: 14 carries, 81 yards(5.8 average), long of 29, and 1 TD.

by Route36 on Jan 5, 2012 3:45 PM EST up reply actions

McCoy is spectacular… So elusive and fun to watch.

But I’m saying if there are too many defenders near the line of scrimmage, even he can’t avoid them all. If there are defenders in the backfield before the handoff is completed, the run game will have problems. We saw these things happen against MIA, NE and NYG. Most of the blame was on the O-line. Also the D probably made McCoy their top priority because Desean was in a slump.

by MikeCampy on Jan 5, 2012 5:23 PM EST up reply actions

So you’re basically saying a RB might not have great games every single week. I guess that’s news to you. When the O-line is getting beat or defenders come free off the snap, of course it would be hard for him to produce. Last year, McCoy was the best RB in the NFL when facing a loaded box(more defenders than available blockers) averaging 5.75 ypc. So, he has proven he can beat it. This year, I bet he’s among the top again.

Your logic that Desean spreading the field is what allowed McCoy to produce the way he did is a fallacy.

I can't even imagine working for espn. I'd be screaming in my head ENOUGH WITH THE ROMO KNOB SLOBBING HE IS AN ABOVE AVERAGE QB

ELI IS NOT ELITE! WHY DO YOU TALK ABOUT THE COWBOYS LIKE IF THEY WERE THE DEFENDING CHAMPS!!! AGHHHH!!! And I would die on the spot. It’s all up to desean if he’s wearing green next year. If he still wants to earn Larry fitz money he’ll be looking for that somewhere else. Its not like the f.o has the reputation of lowballing young players their not gonna overspend though. So its all up to him and if he can overcome his desire to be this big ass baller.

also i would much rather sign lesean and maclin long term then keeping desean

I see desean as easily replaceable through the draft or fa. I don’t think its that difficult to get a speedy wr with average hands we can use to stretch the field.

DeSean isn’t all the offense, your right LEsean :)
But #10 is a major part of why we are successful. When he is on his game, the field is open to many attacks. True that jackson isn’t the only deep threat, but he is the one that i think of first.
Thanks for the insight guys, I’m looking forward to posting more articles for you guys and as always go eagles!!!!!!!!!!!!

for the right price

sure he can come back. he definitely spaces the field but our passing game was not nearly as effective as it was in years past. deseans td against the skins was his first 40+ td of the year.

We are going to lose Desean.

Banner is not going to pay him.

God Damn you, Andy Reid.

My hope is that will discourage other teams from paying him too, causing him to come back to Philly for a reasonably priced salary, J-Roll style.

Fingers crossed, though not holding out much hope…

Franchise him and give him another year to earn his money..u can’t just let go of the best deep threat in the game..

DeSean

Is coming back i think, whether by franchise tag or contract

by dstern77 on Jan 7, 2012 11:29 AM EST reply actions

Agreed. If we franchise tag him, he’ll see that as a threat and an insult.

Because of his size he is fighting time. What I mean by that is sooner or later someone is going to hit the little guy so hard he is either going ot be put out of he game for good or unable to come back at 100%. DeSean is painfully aware of this. The guy wants guaranteed contract money because he is so small that he has less of a guarantee for a long career than most other players. It would be an honorable thing for Lurie to either pay the man or let him get paid by someone else who wants to pay him.

But this is football – it’s a business run by Billionaires – people known for their ruthlessness – and honor has nothing to do with it.

if he gets franchised

He gets an average of the top 5 WR’s guaranteed pay day. With some of the contract signed this season he is probably gonna get over 10 mil in this case. If he can’t live the rest of his life off of 10 mil, fuck him.
