Quintin Mikell On The Chances Of Steve Spagnuolo To Eagles
Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer spoke to former Eagle and current Ram Quintin Mikell about the speculation regarding Steve Spagnuolo coming to Philadelphia to run the defense. McLane gave the cliff notes on twitter.
Spoke to former Eagles safety Quintin Mikell this morning. He had something interesting things to say about Steve Spagnulo, his former coach in St. Louis, about the
#Eagles DC job. Q said he spoke to Spags about the possibility and he said that he "wasn't sure if it was in the cards." Still, Mikell endorsed the move and said that he felt Spags missed calling plays, something he didn't so as the Rams head coach. "That's why I don't think he would be against it," Mikell said.
He says he'll have a full story with more in a bit. We'll link to that when it comes out.

A lot of people are saying that the longer Reid waits the more likely Juan is either demoted or fired, so I guess the only other mystery besides the new DC would be the future of Washburn. Some people think him & Spags wouldn’t be able to work together but that combo might be able to workout great. Another reason why I want to keep Washburn is because if he leaves Babin might become useless, like Adam Caplan says he’s a system specialist to the extreme
The Legend
New DC’s usually want to hire their own people and their own d-line coach. Why would Spags want to take the job with caveat that he has to have Washburn as his d-line coach and run the wide-9, when he could most likely go elsewhere he has full control over his defense?
I can thing of two reasons: Talent and championship ability.
Eagles: Season, but they'll be back with a vengeance next year. #KeepAndyReid
Flyers: On a nice roll
Phillies: Looking to next year
I know it sounds crazy but the Eagles are actually not the only team in the league with those two things.
If you look at the overall talent on the defensive side, not alot of teams in need of a new DC got the same talent as the Eagles.

After that press conference and the fans reaction, I doubt it.
Lurie came out and said he was dissapointed and that what he saw was not acceptable. If Castillo stays. If there isn’t a shake up, fans will immediantly turn to the organization say that they are liars.

Didn’t Lurie explicitly say that coaching personnel is completely Andy’s decision though?

I dont have a feel for Juan's returning one way or the other...
But, we can speculate that a new DC would be named at that time or shortly thereafter. Does anyone here think that when Andy has his presser, he will not only demote/fire Juan but also announce the hiring of someone? I kind of think he would. The longer this is taking seems to me that he is still in discussions with candidates.
Unless he keeps Juan, but you would think he would have just said that already or at Lurie’s presser.

Reid
is not firing Juan. Sorry.
At least one more year of Andy and Juan. If they don't win it all they both better be gone!
Then why not come out and put the rumors to bed already.
I still think something is afoot here.

At least this confirms Spagnuolo did not run the defense in St. Louis. Ken Flajole did. Spags the DC is still one of the best. Do it.
Yeah but there is no way he didn’t have a major hand in it. So calling him one of the best based on one year is a little extreme.

That almost makes it sound like it ISN’T likely to happen.

Isn't that how the Eagles' FO like to do things?
They keep everything in house until they’re ready to announce it. I’m not saying it will happen, just that we can’t learn anything from statements like that one. If he is hired we won’t hear much about it until it’s a done deal.
But this wasn't from the FO
That was Mikell saying that

and why would Mikell know anything about what AR and Spags have talked about over the phone?

Q
COMEBACK Q!! One FA move that probably costed us the playoffs was not bringing Q back. I think it can be agreed upon that our safeties were the difference between a win or lose in quite a few games. If we had Q we would have a good enough record to be the playoffs. I know Q got paid n all but its not like we didnt have any money spend… dont sign ronnie brown n steve smith n use that money for Q, but who am I Captain HIndsight?
Let's go EAGLES!!!
In my opinion, this just sounds like Spags is looking for another HC job before he pursues this idea. It might not be “in the cards” because he doesn’t want to be delegated back to a coordinator role. He’d still rather be a head coach.

No one is going to hire a coach coming off a HISTORICALLY BAD 3 SEASONS.

Don't think Spags comes as a DC
I thinks he would come as an assistant HC/ Defense. He’s not going to be there for more than two or three years, and it could be great for him to mentor Castillo

I don’t see Andy firing Juan or demoting him until he has his replacement already lined up. Much like he did with not moving Juan over until he got Mudd on board
Ed Snider is a crotchety old fuck.
That is all.
Babin and Washburn
could go for all I care if we got Spags. Babin looks is a me player instead of a team player and is far from a leader
