Brent Celek Goes Under The Knife
The Eagles announced today that Brent Celek had surgery to correct both a sports hernia and a torn labrum in his hip. He had both surgeries done at once by two different surgeons.
Pretty amazing to think that he had these injuries late in the year when he was playing so well.
The team also noted in their release that Celek, Jeremy Maclin & DeSean Jackson are the first trio of Eagles receivers to be over 800 yards in a season.

love Brent celek
He’s your old fashioned football tough guy. Never goes down at first contact and often carries defenders for extra yards. He’s really into talking with the fans too. Gotta love it

CAP'N ON DECK!!!
An extraordinary bright spot this season, I was concerned Celek had regressed at the beginning of the year. His production towards the later half of the season was everything the Eagles could ask for, Gronk / Graham notwithstanding. I loved watching it take 3-4 DBs to drag him down. I also think his blocking improved this year.
I wonder when the injuries occurred?

I think
his regression was more the fault of him being forced to stay in and block. As the line improved, he was able to get out and start making plays again.
I wonder if they happened in the beginning of the year. If so, that would explain somewhat to why he wasn’t doing anything then and then started playing well late in the season as the injuries improved somewhat.
RIP Jim Johnson, best ever.
"WHY IS THIS PINK-HAIRED BITCH A CAR?!"
It was probably a lingering injury. Who knows when it initially happened, but he was obviously still able to play on it. I doubt it was anything major.

It’s like they suddenly realized they had a TE again. And it’s not like he was being left in to block all the time like last year. He was out there. Not sure if he was just not getting open or what the story was. I am glad things picked up for him, I love the guy and I think he can be a really good to great TE in this league.
Ed Snider is a crotchety old fuck.
That is all.
I think they realized that they had an offensive line so they didn’t need to keep Brent in there

I never lost faith in Celek. I knew that 2009 couldn’t have just been a fluke year.

That TE screen we run with Celek is such a money play. Love when we use it in the RZ. Here’s to a healthy 2012 season so we can use him more as the weapon he truly can be.

yea i’m a big fan of that play too.
its weird. we always hear the guys calling the game talk about how we are such a great screen team. it seems that most of our screens are not the usual RB screen play, though. mostly WR & TE screens.
remember that one where we faked a screen on one side of the field and went with another screen on the other side of the field? Creative play, but IIRC, it failed pretty miserably. lol

With Westbrook I feel like they used that RB screen a lot more
In this offense, it doesn’t seem like they screen as often, and try and get it around to WR’s and TE’s more.
I wanna see some screens to SHADY...

Brent plays hard. I like him.
AR should have to wear a Flava Flav necklace until he learns how to manage a clock.

i wonder when he got the sports hernia. celek also torn a labrum, which (according to PFT) is a sign that he had the hernia for some time. thats really odd… i wonder why he showed no symptoms…
The man is a true 'Beast' .
End of story .Got his jersey after he got the starting job,and its the only one I been wearing gamedays…..GO Brent !!

Old School
Brent Celek is an ‘Old School’ football player. To me, his toughness ranks right up there with the great Larry Csonka. To see him drag multiple defenders downfield after a fearless catch in traffic is a thing of beauty. Did you ever see the guy cover up and to avoid a hit? I can’t recall ever. Sure, he dropped a few these past two seasons, but that stretch seems to be over.
And now, knowing that he was playing some of the season injured – who knows how much – just adds to the his story. He is one of the toughest players in the NFL and one day Brent Celek will be an Eagles home-town legend, even if he never gets pro-bowl.
